My favorite vegan spot in Colorado - Edit
Update May 2025:
Read moreI’m so sad to have to change my review after a year of this being my favorite vegan restaurant anywhere. I’ve been back twice in the past two months and it seems like something has changed and the place is going downhill. The food has been mostly fine, although their tofu katsu is bland as can be. I don’t know if it’s always been that way because if I get donburi I usually get potato katsu, which I enjoy way more. The tofu katsu was just a massive fried block of tastelessness. What makes me more sad is the state of the place. It smelled bad both of these past two visits, like stale fryer oil. The whole place is greasy as can be - so much grease on the floor that my feet could slide around if I let them. They didn’t have bins set out for you to put away your dirty dishes either time, but they also aren’t diligent about cleaning the tables anymore, so I had to move someone else’s dirty dishes to another dirty table so that I could have somewhere to sit.
The nail in the coffin came when I got to my hotel that night. I drove straight from Wellness Sushi to Colorado Springs, so a good hour and a half in the car. When I got into my PJs, I realized my clothes REEKED of the stale grease smell. I travel for work, so I don’t pack many clothes and I only bring one extra pair of pants. The jeans I wore that night smelled bad enough for the rest of the week that I couldn’t re-wear them. Three days of airing the clothes out in the hotel room and they still smelled like the restaurant. I plan on being able to rewear my jeans when I travel, so unfortunately I don’t think I’m going to be coming back anytime soon. RIP former favorite spot 😕
Original review August 2024:
Holy moley this place is the absolute best. It’s incredibly unique - I’ve never been anywhere like it. I fly into Colorado for work frequently and I always make sure to come here if I can, even if it’s not convenient. This week, I’m working in Boulder and I still made the trek to Wellness Sushi. Every single thing I’ve tried so far has blown me away. So far, I’ve had the W’s Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, W’s Tantanmen Ramen, Ebi tempura roll, Potato katsu curry don rice bowl, Tokyo drift roll, and the fried tofu onigiri. You literally can’t go wrong, and you’re making a mistake if you don’t come here.

Loved it! - Edit
On our first visit we tried the smoky sake roll, mantaiko truffle onigiri, and Ohnagi oshi. We loved it! The Smoky sake roll was smoky and almost reminded me of bacon. We also really enjoyed the Oshi. It reminded us a little of the “torched and pressed” at PLANTA. My partner didn’t like the onigiri as much. He thought it was too meaty. I thought it was pretty good, but it was not shaped like any onigiri I’ve had. It reminded me of Spam Musabi. We liked it so much we came back the next day and tried the Hot Flamingo and Ohnagi rolls—both good, but the Hot Flamingo and Smoky Sake were overall probably our favorites. Can’t wait to try more.
Read moreEdit: We come here often and especially enjoy the Oshi (all of them are good, but the natto tamago is my favorite) and the Love in Edo. The only thing we didn’t care for was the Royal Potato roll, it was too sweet for us.

All time favorite - Edit
Lived in Denver for 3-4 years as a vegan chef and loved their take on a lot. Not a faux meat fan so skip ones like that but so many great roll options. The PLANTAINS with chocolate & cheese are DIVINE if you like that type of flavor! Nice people and bring out food pretty fast!

Pretty good food, inside could be better - Edit
The food is good albeit not the most filling.
Read moreThe inside could use some work. The floors can be dirty (especially if the move a table around), the security cameras are constantly flashing red and blue lights, there is seating in front of the counter which makes it kind of awkward, the bathroom tiles are very slippery for some reason.

The potato Katzu curry don 🤌🤌 - Edit
I've tried A LOT of vegan katzu. Never before have i tried it made out of potato. Soft on the inside, crispy outside, full of flavor. I'm very impressed.
Read moreSushi-wise, all amazing, though next time I'll try a different okinawa onigiri. I had the seabreeze with seaweed salad and while I like all flavors the mix of textures was a bit off. Overall, amazing sushi joint!

Not worth the hype - Edit
Did I have high expectations? Yes - but still this was rather disappointing
Read moreFirst of all the place does not seem very welcoming more like a cheap takeout restaurant
Payed 45$ for lunch and chose three rolls two of them with avocado which were off
The rolls are eight pieces each but rather small. Self order at a computer (15% service charge and also tax after added ) .
Only good one: Teriyaki beef roll -
„edo love“
The other two - fiery Philly and ebi tempura had avocado in it which wasn’t good anymore
The taste was in regards to it awful. I told staff about it and they replied with. We cut them open this morning some turn brown over time that’s normal with avocados
Yes that’s why you should double check and control quality? Maybe throw old ones away??? Or is that something not common to do?
Or get a better supplier!
Unbelievable
Also found three little flies (fruchtfliegen) who managed to fly on the sushi. Wasn’t the cleanest place?
Why so many good ratings?
Hygiene people!!!

Not for gluten free - Edit
We were so excited, but the menu only stated a few GF options. Odd for sushi. We had the Oshi since we really wanted sushi and not ramen. It tasted like a mouthful of mayo unfortunately, not edible. We have such amazing vegan sushi in Norfolk, so maybe we are spoiled!

Excellent sushi and ramen! - Edit
I tried the Tantanmen ramen and the Smokey “salmon” roll. Both were incredible! The salmon had a very real look, texture and taste to traditional smoked salmon. I will definitely be back and would highly recommend. They also offer desserts, wok bowls, and appetizers.
