Amazing fried rice - Edit
The food was pretty good here, not exactly what we expected, but good! Mushroom balls are actually more like mushroomy vegan meat squares, kebabs aren't just vegan meat but also have veggies and a sweet sauce. We got the red fried rice or whatever it was called, it was my fav part. Good prices. It just sucks they don't take pay wave, travel card or credit because my partner had to go and get cash out at an atm and they made me stay there alone and wait for him. Maybe nz is different, in aus it's rare to carry cash. And we couldn't use a regular debit card because the travel card doesn't count as that for some reason.

A bonus is that we don’t charge fees for eftpos here - just payWave and credit cards, which is why a lot of small businesses don’t offer those. I was shocked on a visit to Australia this month by how many places charged me to use a normal eftpos card!

Brilliant, albeit cramped - Edit
This is a fantastic little spot for authentic chinese with some great vegan faux meat options. If you're looking to dine in, get there early or a bit later as it's a very cosy little dining area which fills up fast most days.

Best veggie in NZ - Edit
Quiet, unassuming, but explosive flavour and loads of vegan options. Had the hot plate tofu, beautiful, juicy deep fried tofu with fresh vegetables. Malaysian curry was also a delight.

Great food, great time - Edit
The Welcome Chinese vegetarian cafe was one our family will remember. Vegetarian Chinese food is hard to come by, so that definitely distinguishes this cafe from the rest. The menu was very long and gave lots of options for not just vegetarians, but vegans and people with allergies. The food was amazing and hot. On top of that the atmosphere was cozy and authentic. The waiter was efficient and very fast bringing out our food. 10/10! Would recommend.

So much variety - Edit
As a vegan I'm not used to having so much choice! Everything on the menu here always looks so interesting and the portion sizes are massive which is brilliant. Really cosy little place to go and eat, and the staff are always friendly. The food is generally good, but I find it's quite salty (makes me very thirsty) and if you order a dish it's really just a lot of the same flavour so it gets boring to eat. But otherwise, great value and an amazing place for vegans. Super grateful this exists.

Great vegan Chinese food! - Edit
Tried this for the first time as a takeaway during lockdown! We had the plum sauce seitan chikn (SO good), fried nuggies (they have mushrooms inside but you can't taste them), and some fried wontons. The food was amazing albeit a little greasy. Quite pricey but delivery added on a fair whack to that. They have so many vegan options we nearly had a meltdown trying to decide what to order!

A Christchurch classic - Edit
This place is a vegan institution in Christchurch - delicious, fast, well priced, and most of the menu is vegan. Some dishes are more for sharing than having as a main, so ask the staff for more info before ordering if you’re a newbie - or just order multiple things! I particularly love the samosas, the siew mai, the sweet and sour potatoes, the Malaysian curry, and the crispy mashed tofu balls in black bean sauce.

BEST VEGAN FOOD EVER!!! - Edit
This place is absolutely amazing, I have never had such amazing vegan food and so much option! I cant speak highly enough of it. A lot of fried and oily foods, so not necessarily something for the very healthconscious folks, but if you are looking for taste and variety THIS is THE place! The entree size steamed dumplings are by far the best dumplings I ever had and the vegan duck is out of this world! If youre in this city, you gotta visit this place! Also maybe do a booking because its a small restaurant not many seats available. Also the prices are really cheap for what you get.

So impressed with the selection on offer here! Spoilt for choice. I ordered a fried rice dish which was served with tofu, a chow mein dish served with soy ham and soy sausage and the best spring rolls I've ever had. The owner was super lovely and the atmosphere was quaint and cute.

Fast, Friendly & Flavoursome - Edit
We always enjoy the food here at the Welcome Cafe as we are vegan & own an organic wholefood shop & gf org plant-based cafe ourselves so are pretty fussy. The veges are fresh & usually sourced locally spray-free from what I was told & the flavours are great even without onion or garlic (which I am used to eating a lot of). Totally recommend as also very affordable & 2 entrees, 3 mains & 1 side took 15 mins for a takeaway order at 6pm on a Saturday night so great quick healthier takeaway option but also they do dine in. Friendly & helpful staff.😄

Cons: Don't use onion & garlic., Dine in restaurant dated but is clean, Not all organic & GF
