Great flavors - Edit
This was a lovely find during a grey and rainy day in Porto. Vumo means smoke in Portuguese. They experiment with flavors and create unique dishes. I had Reuben sandwich - tasty and filling. But I was blown away by the chocolate mousse with brownie base and crumbs on top. They had smoked the chocolate which added an incredible flavor. Highly recommended.

New-ish vegan eatery on the block - Edit
I learnt my lesson with making sure I got to this place before the crowds on a Saturday night. If you're looking for a chilled and relaxed vibe with cozy seating this is the place. The food was oozing with flavours and couldn't see how it could be improved. I eat out only occasionally so I'm happy to pay more for high quality food and support vegan independent eateries. Especially as these were just within a year of trading. If you're travelling on a limited budget and eating out for all your meals this may not be within your meal budget!

Dark and moody - Edit
Trapsed up the hill wondering where we were going. Nearly walked past this dark place! Interesting moody dark and atmospheric interior. Cool music and vibe. Delicious food. I had the borscht soup and Rubin sandwich and a gorg glass of red. Would return if there weren’t so many other vegan places to try and do little time! Highly recommended.

Mas deixemos o passado para trás e concentremo-nos na novidade estonteante que é o "VÜMO". Um nome que dança entre as sílabas, rimando com "fumo" e evocando um sentimento de exploração audaciosa, este novo projeto gastronómico está enraizado num conceito revolucionário.
Situado na cidade do Porto, "VÜMO" desafia os limites do paladar com uma gama única de sabores explorados através de um inovador uso do fumeiro - um tributo ao sabor intenso do fumeiro português, porém aplicado de forma criativa a diversos ingredientes. Aqui, o céu é o limite.
A associação com a dieta vegana pode ser inevitável dada a sonoridade do nome, mas @vumo.porto vai muito além disso. Ao mesmo tempo que sugere a palavra "vegano", também remete para um novo "rumo" de experiências culinárias.
Este é um convite para todas as preferências alimentares, um banquete que cativa os paladares de todos os curiosos por novas emoções gastronómicas.
E claro, o espetáculo de sabores é acompanhado por uma seleção de cervejas, vinhos, sumos e fermentados que surpreenderá até os paladares mais exigentes.
Juliana e Thomas, outrora clientes na minha anterior empresa de distribuição de cervejas, tornaram-se amigos íntimos através do círculo que partilhamos. Observar a sua jornada tem sido um prazer, e é com grande alegria que dedico este post à sua nova conquista.

My first experience of a vegan restaurant in Portugal and couldn’t have been better! Food was absolutely delicious and very unique as everything is smoked, so nice I had to return the next day when they had prepared a special menu for Festa de São João, which again was incredible😊 owners are so lovely and chatty, I couldn’t recommend this place more! Am already looking forward to returning on my next visit to Porto❤️

The couple who owns Vumo is very very nice and welcoming. We tried the eggplant, the potatoes and the bun. The potatoes and bun were good, the bun had a seitan burger, looked they made it themselves, in a tiger bun. A bit spicy for those who like that. The eggplant dish I didn't like at all..in my opinion was just mush...would be better with some crunch inside the dish itself.

We really loved this place. The food was exceptional, we particularly enjoyed the hummus and cauliflower main course. Every dish had a smokey theme even the ice cream! The owners were really friendly and helpful. We wish them every success in the future, they deserve it.

We hadn’t booked but the man that runs Vumo was very accommodating and wanted to make sure we could still get a table. I would definitely book next time. There was a selection of smoked foods on the menu. We ordered the Ruben sandwich and the whole grain bun. The sandwich was very tasty! The whole grain bun was very flavoursome, just a little wet when bitten into. A friend’s order came out a little later than the rest but teething problems are to be expected in a new restaurant. Would definitely go back if I were to come to Porto again.

Read moreFor only being open 6 weeks at the time of our visit there were a couple of teething issues but the gent who runs Vümo was really great and accommodating.
The food is really good, everything is smoked here which if you liked smoked food you can’t go wrong.
A relatively small menu but done well
We had Potato’s and “Txorizo” as a small plate starter. The “Ruben” and “Bun” as a main. The “Ruben” was outstanding.
All in all a good visit well worth the walk just outside the main town.

We were so happy that we found this place last minute on HappyCow and decided to cancel our other reservation to have dinner at VÜMO instead. It was definitely one of the best meals of our trip to Portugal. The idea of 100% vegan smokehouse is absolutely amazing, and it's been executed so well! Everything we tried we loved instantly: smoked beetroot tartar, chorizo with chimichurri, reuben sandwich, hummus with smoked cauliflower & dukkah, zucchini rolls with smoked ricotta, everything was so delicious! The owners are so friendly and really passionate about their food. We also loved the vibe - the place has a great atmosphere with music being played from the records. Absolutely great experience.
