Not bad - Edit
We came to try the arepas but were a bit underwhelmed, both with the Beyond arepa and the patatas bravas. The menu had many different appealing things but I doubt we’d come back to try more.

We had a great evening at this warm and inviting, fully vegan restaurant. No airs and graces, just tasty food with a great variety of items to choose from. My Margarita went down very well too.

I ordered the gyoza's. They were nice. And the nacho's, but it was too much to finish on my own. The owners have a dog that chills there all day. We bonded and it was the highlight of my day.

Get the Spanish Imelette - Edit
Such a quaint place with lovely owners!! I loved the Spanish omelette with grandma’s sauce. And my dessert was fabulous. They have several to choose from. Going back tonight for dinner. Will share. Sorry I forgot to take photo of omelette but did get one of the cake.

Good brunch deal - Edit
Our last day in Madrid kicked off with brunch here—a great little spot offering a €16.50 deal that includes a granola bowl, coffee, fresh orange juice, and a main. Definitely good value!
My partner in crime went for the avocado toast, which came with a layer of tomato—simple but beautifully presented. I went for the tortilla, and wow, it was fantastic! Soft, almost cake-like in texture, and absolutely delicious.
If you’re looking for a solid brunch option in Madrid, this place is well worth a visit.

Traditional Madrid food made vegan and delicious - Edit
I haven’t had a proper cocido since I became vegan and vegetarian almost 8 years ago. It was absolutely delicious and exactly how I remember it. The place is a traditional taverna with other fantastic foods that I can’t wait to try. The cakes and desserts were also to die for! The staff was so lovely and invited us to some chupitos after our meal. You can tell they put a lot of effort as everything is home made and very tasty. As a madrileña this is 100% approved!

Buen lunch completo - Edit
I had the mushrooms croquettes which were very juicy and great as appetizers. And round it up with the size-matters bocadillo No Calamares. Deliciously garlicky and filling. Great beer selection.

Great bar with typical food! - Edit
I have been to viva chapata about 3 times now. I've had the calamari, which my non vegan friend said they looked and tasted real. The tortilla but the sauce that came with it wasn't great, at least for me. I've had also some of the desserts, and the passion fruit pie was really good. I loved the organic cider! Such a difference from the other ones. #Veganuary

Doesn’t stand out - Edit
I used to live in this neighborhood and came here a lot. To make a long story short, the quality is very hit-or-miss and has definitely declined.
Read moreMy main complaints:
- croquetas that were previously frozen and haven’t been cooked through, so are cold in the middle when served.
- veggie burgers with a stingy half-piece of vegan cheese
- the “healthy bowl” which not only was served after the other 5 guests at my table were 2/3 through their meals, but had a lackluster presentation (think ingredients thrown in a dish with sauce splashed on them) and was covered in oil
- food reheated in the microwave
- fries dripping with oil
The service we received on our most recent visit, however, was far better than the below-average food. Two stars for that. Thankfully, Madrid is not a vegan wasteland with a dearth of options. If there’s nothing else open, okay, but know that it’s greasy bar food and that you can get more for your money elsewhere.

Although the setting and staff were nice, the food that I ordered tasted rather bland. I had 'No pollo arepas' and Spanish tortilla. They both weren't as flavourful as I had hoped, so I felt a bit disappointed.

El cocido madrileño 😍 - Edit
Encantado con este sitio. Los días laborables tienen menú del día y me apetecía mucho probar el cocido. Me encanta el cocido, pero nunca lo había probado en el formato “madrileño”. Me gustó mucho, me sentó fenomenal.

One of the best tortillas in Madrid - Edit
If you're looking for a vegan restaurant in Lavapies, Viva Chapata is a great option. They started as a non-fully vegan restaurant many years ago but have since become fully vegan, which is fantastic.
Read moreWe tried the milanesa and the kebab. The food wasn't anything spectacular, but I have to say that they have one of the best vegan Spanish tortillas in Madrid.
