Must-go if you miss Western food - Edit
I moved to Beijing, so I've become accustomed to Chinese food. After a day out, I decided to come here, and I'm so glad I did. Has a good range of Western foods to choose from, although the menu is actually pretty small.
Read moreI got hummus and the mushroom burger. It tasted great, although I didn't think either was the best I had ever had, but there's not very much competition for Western vegan food in Beijing.
Pros: Good range of Western options
Cons: Menu is overall pretty small

slightly expensive but good - Edit
The room is nice, cozy and you could as well spend a couple of hours reading here. Had the deservedly famous mushroom burger (68rmb), with humus (28) and topinade (32) as starters. That was a bit too much. To the point that I had to leave without tasting the what seemed to be very good chocolate and carrot cake, as I was full. I recommend this place if you are not on a budget travel.

western food - Edit
Good for what it was, but a bit pricy. The atmosphere was nice and staff were helpful. We had a veg burger and the chili pasta, which were both pretty good. If your looking for western food in China this would be a good option.

A good vegan treat - Edit
What I really like about this place is that they serve alcohol. As far as I can remember, alcohol is vegan, and I love to have a good drink once in a while. So discovering their vegan chocolate milk with rum was heavenly good!
Read moreI ordered the mushroom burger with fries, which was pretty good and filling. Everything was super fresh, and therefore pricey as well. They have an explanation on every table about their way of producing their food, so I understand the price... If you stay in China for a while, you will soon know that quality food in restaurants is only for the elite of Chinese with the means of following the newest trends.
I am a low budget traveller, so for me it is overpriced, but it has definitely been the best choice I could make for my only decadent meal during my stay in Beijing.
Pros: Alcohol is served, Good food, Everything made fresh
Cons: pricey but fair

International vegan restaurant - Edit
Despite being pricy The Veggie Table serves tasty international food. I enjoyed the fact that they use organic veggies and recycled paper for tissues. I've been there many times and had burger, hummus, carrot cake and chocolate cake, dried tomato pasta and couscous. The only thing I didn't enjoy that much was the couscous.

Really good non-Chinese vegan food - Edit
Really good burgers, really good Middle Eastern food (hummus, babaganoush), really good desserts. The atmosphere is very clean and informal -- more like a cafe or bookstore in San Francisco.

The food here was pretty good and the quality can't be beat. we will go back to try other dishes. this is one of four restaurants in this hutong with veg options, so you should definitely hit up this hutong if you're looking for veg food in Beijing all in one place.

Great western vegan food - Edit
- Extensive menu which really caters for western vegan food. Pizza, burgers, dips.
Read more- I had the hummus and bread dip, hot chips, mushroom burger.
- The pasta is a must for any vegan who is craving Italian food! The mock meat seems so crazily real too.
- They have desserts like choc or carrot cake.
- Plenty of milkshakes to choose from. I can definitely say that the chocolate peanut butter soy milkshake was the best vegan thing I've ever had in my life. Get it!!!!
Go now. I believe the closest exit from the Lama Temple subway stop is D.

VEGGIE TABLE....JUST GO! - Edit
Our family really likes this place. It is located in a Hutong near Llama Temple. The Hutong itself is a charming, busy mix-mash of little stores, coffee shops and bars. You won't have a hard time finding the restaurant as the sign is large and printed in English. The restaurant is a decent size with an open, relaxed atmosphere. The menu is all VEGAN and the staff speak English. We tried the mushroom burger (10/10), the falafels (10/10), the hummus (8/10, needed some extra veggies for dipping). I really wanted to try the apple pie or chocolate cake but I was STUFFED. I just really liked this place A LOT. There are quite a few veggie restaurants near Llama but if you can only go to one - go to this one. Most entrees are about 60rmb.

Best burger ever! - Edit
One thing that I really like about this place is the decoration and the atmosphere. Very nice! The food... We had the mushroom burger which was the best burger I had in my life! Seriously delicious! I can't say the same about the chili spaghetti... it looked very fresh and something my mom would cook, but the taste was disappointing. It tasted very blend. I wonder where the chili went...
Read moreI would give this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the chili pasta. But I'm definitely going back to try other dishes and hopefully get a better opinion about their food!
The prices are a bit above average for Beijing standards.
Pros: location, atmosphere
Cons: prices

Best Vegan Restaurant in Beijing - Edit
Love this restaurant and visit frequently. Good, filling food for a decent price. Not the healthiest vegan food but definitely a nice treat. One dish that could do with improvement is the pizza - it takes a really long time to prepare so you might be waiting a long time after everyone else has been served as well. The vegan cakes are the nicest in Beijing and the chocolate peanut butter shake is delicious - the ingredients for that are printed wrong on the menu, it doesn't contain coffee. Really nice atmosphere and good wifi.

Very cool vegan restaurant - Edit
Lovely place to chill out for a few hours, with the menu featuring a decent range of beautifully prepared western dishes plus juices, smoothies & desserts. I have been here a number of times and the food is always tasty - I can vouch for the pizza, curry & mushroom burger all being delicious & satisfying. The juices & smoothies are also delicious & obviously very healthy. Highly recommended restaurant, especially for a long & relaxed lunch.

excellent! - Edit
Took the family there after checking out Lama Temple. Fresh juices to start was refreshing. PB on tasty whole grain bread made my 4 yr old son happy and my daughter ate up the falafel. My bean burger held together well and the sesame seed bun was nice touch. Our first all veg restaurant since moving to Beijing and will definitely go back.

So refreshing to find a vegan restaurant in Beijing! This restaurant is on a street with interesting shops, bars and restaurants. You almost feel that you're back in a hip neighborhood in the states. I thought the menu was quite extensive and I was excited to try a pasta dish they had listed, but alas, they were out of it when we were there. It wasn't hard to pick my second choice, the mushroom burger. SO good! Relaxing atmosphere and easy to find!

Western-Style Vegan Food in Beijing - Edit
For me this restaurant was five stars for service, atmosphere, and location and about three stars for food. I had the black bean burger and it was way too dry for my taste. That being said, I definitely plan to go back and try other dishes because the restaurant had a great homey feel to it and there were a lot of other tempting options on the menu. It's also in a fun neighborhood for hanging out after dinner, and has very reasonable prices considering how hard it is to get vegan food in Beijing (let alone Western vegan food). There's an English menu.

A super funky vegan oasis in Beijing - Edit
While we didn't expect to eat western vegan food in Beijing, the incredible organic vegan food at the Veggie Table was certainly welcomed and appreciated. Everything is made onsite with great thought. We tried a number of dishes and drinks on two occasions. The highlights were definitely the mushroom pate, hummus with freshly made pita, chocolate cake and the mushroom burger (especially the dark seeded burger bun). Must tries are the alcoholic hot drinks; hot chocolate and chai, both with rum which go fabulously with the chocolate cake on a cold wintery evening in Beijing.
Read moreThe interior is pretty funky, warm and inviting. There's lots to look at, from the records on the walls to the beautiful greenery framing the windows, which distracted us from our slowish table service as similarly experienced by other reviewers. But that suited us fine as we wanted to stay as long as possible.
Pros: fabulous western vegan options, alcoholic chai and hot chocolate, funky setting

Great organic food - Edit
I went here multiple times- for dinner and lunch. It's always full of people, locals and foreigners. The service is a little slow, but the food is all organic and handmade- they make their own ketchup, their own tahini, etc. The price of the dishes reflect the quality and the care they put into the food. I usually spend about 100 for both food and drink. I've tried their veggie curry with brown rice, their hummus and pita bread, their smoothies, and their chili spaghetti. All very tasty! It's a good place to go with friends or on your own. Easy to walk to from the Yonghegong subway station on line 2, and easy to find. Plus, the little street the restaurant is on is also home to some really cute boutique stores.

Easy to find - Edit
This was the first restaurant my friends and I have been to - we were really impresed. It's a great atmosphere and easy to find, it exists for 4 years now.
Read moreWe liked it so much that came more often and almost ordered the whole menu.
We can really recommend the lemonade of fresh mint and lemons
(I didn't like the cucumber-drink)
The mushroom burger is also very delicious but not very easy to digest (they seem to use a lot of raw onions)
We also liked the big plate with several dips.
The only thing we really missed was typical chinese food. They didn't even offer one dish...
Pros: fresh made drinks
Cons: no chinese food

i would go back, if in the neighborhood again. wishing them the best!

a break from the norm - Edit
i shared a hummus plate & a pizza with a friend, and we were both satisfied. the pizza was thin crust, with what tasted like a sun-dried tomato tapenade, a layer of finely chopped onions, and a few pieces of eggplant. i was suspicious at first, because of it's appearance, but it tasted quite good. we both enjoyed the hummus as well.

Charming, quirky, unique - Edit
I agree with other reviews that this is a great place in many ways, with a few quirks. As noted, their specialty is creative western fare. Great hummus, interesting drinks, unique dishes like couscous and falafel.
Read moreService is indeed spacey, but capable. I did have to wait nearly 40 mins for my order, but the place was full and the atmosphere is fun - great music, and intriguing LP's up around the bar. The only place in Beijing I know about that you'll get vegan mayo w/fries and burgers.
It's also in the 'veggie ghetto' of the city and close to at least 4 other restaurants, so the area is well worth checking out.

Cons: Pricey, Hit and miss quality, Service has its moments

Nice place, slow food... - Edit
I would like to love this restaurant, but unfortunately I can't. It's a nice restaurant that offers possibility to enjoy some other vegetarian (vegan) food than Chinese. But recently the service has been so slow, that it's almost unbelievable. Many times they don't have some menu items at all and even if they have everything, menu still isn't very large. Food is normally ok, but some dishes are not that great. I still value their effort and use of organic ingredients. Wine and beer are also available. But it's definitely not the place to convince your meat-eating friends about greatness of being vegetarian.

About the lack of toilet: Veggie table is situated in a (very nice) hutong street. You cannot build toilets to these buildings. There are two public toilets close to the restaurant and you could say that using them is part of any real Beijing experience. :)
Updated from previous review on Tuesday January 10, 2012: Now one year later I have to say that I have much more positive feelings towards this restaurant. I still think that many of their dishes are not perfectly executed, but for example hummus is very good, they have their own fresh vegan mayonnaise, great warm and cold drinks and some other nice appetizers and soups. I still don't like their burgers a lot and I think that their pizza should not be called pizza, but this is still a unique restaurant in Beijing: European style vegan food, very nice atmosphere, great location, serves also alcohol (vegan hot chocolate with rum!) and they have really high ecological standards and standards for food freshness/use of clean and healthy items. Service is sometimes extremely slow, but not always. :)

Pros: Totally vegan, Serves also alcohol, Ecological attitude
Cons: Not all dishes that great, Slow service
