Really liked the tasty flavor of the spices and infused ube. They did have coffee service from the in house Rise and Grind establishment, too. You ordered that separately yourself.
Longsilog. longgsanisa tofu/ mushroom-soft, falafel like, nice flavor on it's own, would be interested in the reviews of tocino, healthier than a fake meat, really like spice flavor; garlic rice, not very garlicky; salad - cucumber, tomato, green onions, mango slices; spiced vinegar, just the right touch to pickup the flavors $20
Very friendly service, didn't mind me being a single at table for four, got there when they first opened. Very open bar space.

I love this place. unfortunately their menu changes very often so it’s a bit difficult to get the same thing twice. I don’t love the current menu, but highly recommend the heart healing(? I think that’s what it’s called) tea. sweet but so amazing.
Read morethe old pasta they had was a lot better than the one that’s on the menu now (which needed salt). I had an incredible taro leaf rice dish on my first visit that I have not seen on the menu since.

The food here is really good, and so is the vibe. Nourishing for the stomach and the soul! Lots of choices for vegan/vegetarians and they are sensitive to food allergies. Very comfortable, welcoming place. Always feel refreshed and revitalized after leaving here.

We are so fortunate to have this beautiful place to eat. Worker-led POC centric bistro with tons of vegan options (and tons of gluten free options too). The service is caring and the waitstaff makes moments to connect with you. The cocktails are lovely and the ambiance is expertly crafted. Go support this gem!

Understory is the underdog in Oakland! The food is so good and I can myself coming back for more. There are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options- ask the staff to point out what’s what and what the specials are. Amazing food and flavor!
