Needs bigger portions for the price

All Ethiopian restaurants have vegan dishes (the whole country of Ethiopia goes vegan for a month before Easter), so a specific vegan restaurant for this isn’t necessarily needed. Nonetheless, someone said this was “the best Ethiopian in NYC”, so I shelled out the $60 to try it. That person has likely never eaten good Ethiopian food. Tsion did not have gluten free injera (you apparently have to call days before and order it…), and although they apparently cook with olive oil, the food left a bit to be lacked. It was good, not great. Anyway, I really hope they up their portion sizes and make a teff/millet mix for all injera to be GF as it is in Ethiopia, and I truly wish them the best, that they grow into the prices they’re charging in a not-upscale part of NYC. The restaurant business is hard, but it gets much better when you’re generous with your customers.

Pros: Cooks with olive oil, Gf injera is available, but call days before, All vegan options

Cons: Overpriced, Uses cheap frying oil, Odd fusion, best to stick to your lane

For Ethiopian food lovers

As a fan of Ethiopian food, I was excited to visit Tsion. There were options on the menu that I don't usually find in the UK or in Switzerland, and they also sold injera crisps. Everything was good and the place was calming and felt like a real break from the city.

Pros: Ethiopian food, nice atmosphere, products to buy

Great Ethiopian vegan kosher meal

Fantastic service, delicious vegan Ethiopian food. There is a wine on the menu that contains honey.

Best Ethiopian in NYC

2 words: Mushroom Tibs! Best Ethiopian dish I’ve ever had. And it’s healthy.

Excellent Options

This place already had amazing vegan Ethiopian/Israeli food before February, and now they are completely vegan! They are slowly adding more items to the menu to replace the old meat dishes (no meat substitutes, just more traditional dishes). I always get the lentil sambusa and the Tsion Platter because it's mild and I am a wimp, but I've heard the spicier options like Mushrooms tibs are also amazing. Get the Halva for dessert!

Authentic Ethiopian cuisine

Delicious vegan combo with pure teff injera, cooked to perfection. I also took home a jar of Tsion Berber spice. The owner of Tsion welcomes everyone and she brings music and jazz to her restaurant. Highly recommend!!

Mushroom Tibs!!!

The food is sooooooo good! The veggie combo and mushroom tibs absolutely SLAY! I thought it could have had a bit more heat, otherwise perfect! The injera is really great too, definitely get some on the side with shiro.
