yummy streetfood

Quick service and nice location, had the taquitos and my friend got one of the burritos. Don't quite understand why they charge extra for the vegan option but the food was pretty good.

Okay

A lot of vegan options and properly labelled in their menus. Their vegan burrito and taco are good, I just do not understand why we have to top up for vegan option/cheese.

Amazing vegan nachos and margaritas

This place is fantastic, their vegan nachos are my favourite and I always get a margarita when we visit. The trippy corn (elote) is a really good side, and the fries are to die for (get chipotle mayo on the side, it makes a huge difference).
One of the first times I went I tried the buritto which I was blown away by, but since then have stuck with the nachos and special quesadilla and they have always been so good.

Pros: Whole menu can be veganised, really good vegan cheese and sour cream, best margaritas!

Cons: a bit pricey for the portion size, but worth it

Good feed!

This place is great to meet friends and have a fully vegan Mexican experience, the nachos are perfection but I didn't think the burrito was mind blowing, the sangria however was delish. They can make the whole menu vegan which I love!

Pros: menu options

Cons: on the more expensive side

Yummy Fast Food

A weekend in Melbourne is just not complete without a trip to Trippy Taco. To date, I think we have tried the tacos, quesadillas, tamales, burrito and fries and all have been pretty darn good. The dishes are mild in flavour, but they have lots of chilli sauces to spice up your meal. Food is served fresh and vegan options are available.
Trippy Taco is not a fine dining experience, it can get packed and cramped at the peak of meal times, but it is just part of the TT experience. Definitely the place to go if you enjoy Mexican food.

Pros: Tasty Mexican food, Reasonable prices, Casual dining atmosphere

Cons: Can get busy and a bit hectic

Fine for a quick lunch stop

We tried to visit for dinner but it was heaving, so we stopped by for a late lunch another day - I'm glad we did as we would not have had enough to eat for a dinner!

Food was tasty but nothing exceptional; I had a tofu asada burrito which, although thankfully not bulked out with rice or beans was essentially a salad wrap with tofu and guacamole. Their homemade hot sauce is delicious and once doused in that my burrito was more tasty. It's a bit disappointing that a veggie eatery would charge extra for vegan options, but you can opt out of any cheese or sour cream.

My partner had the tofu tacos which, as with my burrito, were fine but bulked out with salad and not overly special. He had a side of corn which was good.

This was perfect for a casual quick lunch, although in my opinion a little on the expensive side for mostly cheap ingredients.

Pros: Quick and easy, Great hot sauce

Cons: Charges extra for vegan options, Portions on the small/expensive side

Tasty tacos

I had vegan tacos for lunch and they were yummy, as were the chips. Trippy taco has lots of vegan options. There was seating indoors and outdoors and staff were friendly. It's an enjoyable spot to have lunch.

burrito

Had a tofu burrito here today. Was very tasty. Part I liked the best was they didn't fill it with cheap rice. In fact, there was no rice at all and it was still a decent size.

burritos are excellent, long wait time

Trippy's is as good as ever. Their mixed burrito is excellent and the trippy fries are delicious.

However, the wait time on food is ridiculous now that they're doing take away with uber eats. I recommend not going there in peak times.

Pros: cheap

Cons: long wait

Good but not great Mexican

I've eaten here three or four times now, and tried a different thing each time - nachos, tacos, tamales, quesadillas, and some of the desserts. None of the food has been bad, but somehow, I've never found it to be truly good either, except for the awesome Trippy Fries. Unfortunately (because I always want to love dedicated veg places), I have to say that if I feel like Mexican, a vegan burrito from Zambrero hits the spot better, even if they don't offer vegan cheese/sour cream.

Pros: Vegan cheese and sour cream, Cool atmosphere

Cons: Charge extra for vegan cheese

Delicious, filling burrito

As part of a group of two vegans, and two non-vegans, I was in the area, and decided upon Trippy Taco for an early lunch after an early morning flight to Melbourne.

They were quiet that morning, so our orders came out pretty quick. We had a plate of chips, dusted with paprika, to share among us. I've never thought of dusting chips with paprika, but it definitely worked.

I had a vegan tofu burrito. It was packed with filling goodness, including vegan cheese and enough tofu to feed a small elephant. On top of that, it was delicious.

While not an exclusively vegan restaurant, every meal has a vegan alternative, and the staff seem to truly understand veganism. The food was delightful, incredibly filling, and not too expensive. All in all, a pretty good introduction to Vegan food in Melbourne.

Pros: Great food, Very filling, Well priced

¡Ay, caramba!

I have enjoyed Trippy's selections on several occasions - in particular the nachos, tacos and burrito. The taquitos can be hit and miss, but overall Trippy Taco is a viable option for Vegans craving Mexican fare.

Vegan cheese and sour cream are available, so be sure to mention your preference when ordering.

trippers

I can't help but succumb to the veg*n culinary cultural cringe and compare Trippy to places like Dolores in Berlin, where the huge range of vegan fillings let you build your own amazing burrito, bowl, or quesadilla. Trippy pretty much just has two options - tofu or beans, accompanied by standard salsa, guac, cheese, sour cream and salad available in various tortilla arrangements that all kinda taste a bit same same-y.

That said, I do enjoy a feed here from time to time. I usually start my meal with a Sol and a serve of their skinny fries, dusted with sweet, smoky paprika to share. I've enjoyed many a burrito in both the bean and tofu varieties. My mates often go for the combo of both. The nachos really hit the spot and take me back to my childhood. Their dairy substitutes are pretty spot on. They just switched to Daiya which is your best bet for chewy, stretchy, melt. Not sure which sour cream they use (tastes like it could be Tofutti) but it's very creamy and slightly tart.

Last night I felt I'd made a mistake ordering the taquitos, however. I know it's a bad food cliche, but the crispy rolled tortillas tasted a bit like deep fried cardboard. Weird, because I'm sure they're the same in the nachos. Maybe it's the ratio and distribution of toppings that makes this dish not quite work. In the future I think I'll stick to the soft, chewy, wheat flour tortilla.

Pros: imported beers, seasoning on fries , dairy replacements

Cons: lack of variety , service can be pretty brusque , limited seating

The Best Mexican In Australia. I Want It In My Mouth Every Day

This place is incredible. The best Mexican in Australia. The only con is that they are not 100% vegan. Don't go past this one. Do it. Just do it. Just eat it. So good.

Pros: Great Food , Vegan Nachos! , Has Beer

Cons: Not 100% Vegan

Deliciously vegan

I used to always ride by but never had the chance to drop in. Now that I've been there I regret not taking some time to come around every now and then.

Their tacos and burritos are delicious and the vegan cheese and vegan sour creme are more than great. You should also get some of their chips but only if you can risk not getting enough of them!

Pros: Delicous food, Everything can be done vegan

Cons: Surcharge for vegan cheese

Perhaps not

Had high hopes for this, especially given how many people were queuing but ..... disappointing

the tofu asada tacos were good, full of flavour and contrasting textures, but the taco could have been a bit bigger

the quesadilia with black beans, on the other hand, was too big, and suffered from that plus having a very watery tomato salsa. needed heaps of chilli sauce to make it taste ok, which is never a good sign

Average

My friend and I had the original burrito- mine's vegan, his not. He loved it, thought it was the best burrito he had ever had. I was much more 'meh' about it. The vegan cheese is entirely tasteless and the flavour was dominated by sultanas and beetroot. To me it was like a salad wrap with black beans and nothing I'd really recognise as a burrito, it was petty garlic-y but not really any other obvious flavouring. Maybe some people appreciate the bit of creativity but I just want a good burrito.

Given they were burritos I found the service a bit slow but not slow compared to what you'd wait in any restaurant. We were there around 3 and it wasn't empty but it was easy to get a seat. The general feel of the place was nothing special but nothing annoying either.

So disappointed

I was so looking forward to this place as Mexican food is my favorite. The first time we tried it was so packed that we had to go somewhere else. The next day we decided to go at an odd time to avoid the crowd and get a seat. We were there at 5:15 and there were still no tables. Someone got up and we were very close to the kitchen. It was really loud.
We got our margaritas first, which were great. VERY strong, which I was happy with. Then the food. They got one of the orders wrong (black bean tacos instead of tofu) but we didn't complain as we didn't want to wait longer. It was all kind of bland. I could have popped open a can of beans and tossed some toppings on at home in about 5 minutes and get a similar result. The taco meal wasn't very filling and we were left wanting more.
All and all, it was just ok.

Pros: only veg mexican place

Cons: cost for size, super busy

rectified!

Old review below. thought I'd give them another try for my birthday. The food was great, had tacos this time. We all loved our food! When they found out it was my birthday, they brought me the only vegan dessert- FREE!!! I told them how they sucked the previous time and I'm now a believer in their food. They were so sweet. Been again and still impressed. Maybe the nachos always suck? Never going to try them again though. Give them a try, trippy tacos is great!
They did lower the music when asked, portions are small but good.

My daughter and I shared the nachos. It was $17 for the vegan version. Everyone was really nice and helpful but.... food came and it was a plate of nasty, cheap looking greasy chips with some oily cheese slopped on half the chips. There was a scattering of dried out black beans (maybe 2 tablespoons at most) and a smear of guacamole which was less than an 1/8 of a teaspoon. I asked for the red sauces on the side. When the waiter came around I pointed out the lack of guac and he promptly brought a decent amount. The guac tasted good. I will never order that again, what a rip off! The meals others got looked good so I will give them another try but NEVER get the nachos again!!!
It was WAY too loud and I couldn't even hear myself think the music was blasting so loud on a Saturday afternoon.

Eat the Fries leave the rest

Had fries with paprika once as a quick snack they filled a gap. Then decided to pay a return visit to sample some tasty mexican food, what we got was slop in a burrito that made us a bit sensitive. the serves were ridiculously big, heavy with water from the sweaty salad, the flavour wasn't that great. we will not be back i am afraid. staff were unfriendly and not that clean looking.

Pros: thin cut fries

Cons: sloppy, questionable FHS

Amazing!

This place is so delicious.
I think that the fries were probably the best I have ever had in my life! They have some sort of chilli salt on them - yum. Then there was the actual main course - I had a tofu burrito which was just fantastic. I cannot say enough about how delicious their food is. Although, I was a little disappointed with the nachos - they looked amazing but didn't quite hit the spot.
It is pretty cheap and does some good drinks. It can be a bit hard to get a table because it's a small place. It's not fine dining - halfway between take away and a cafe. The toilets are outside and there is only one and I had to wait ages. But it is all worth it for the food!

Pros: incredible food, good value

Cons: only 1 toilet, small and crowded

Mexican taco's

Wonderfull taco restaurant, great to have breakfast or lunch. They also have soy cheese, so there are vegan options available. Also a place that gets really busy, but if you eat there you'll know why.

Pros: Great food, Lots of vegan options

Cons: Busy, Small
