One of my favorites - Edit
The restaurant is warm and welcoming. There is a very nice vibe here. The staff are lovely: funny and friendly and attentive. I felt relaxed and at home here despite the fact that the restaurant was very busy, every table full.
Read moreThe food is delicious. Unusual combinations like roast leeks with pumpkin and onion ice cream as a starter; a fried pickle on a bed of potato salad spiked with herbs. The meal started with an amuse bouche of hot mushroom dashi and some pickles, then a plate of really good dark sourdough with a kind of fenugreek margarine to spread on it. The entrees were inventive and tasty as well: a potato goulash in a paprika(ish) sauce and a kind of sauerkraut mushroom cabbage roll on a bed of grains. The flavors were unique and clear and I was happy to see that there were no "fake meats" anywhere on the menu. I really appreciate it when a chef works with plants and not "plant-based" processed products.
The wine list is small but well curated and I had an excellent Chenin Blanc.
Pros: The vibe, The food, The wine
Cons: it can get crowded, but it was also kind of fun.

Das Croissant mit Beeren, crumble und Eis ist einmalig.
Dazu gibt es feinste Selbstgemachte Getränke und richtig guten Kaffee.
Außerdem ist die Abendkarte einfach nur grandios und herausragend, frische und perfekt abgestimmte Speisen finden sich auf den Tellern – am besten teilen. Vorneweg gab es das selbstgemachte Sauerteigbrot, einfach nur lecker.
Pros: Super leckeres selbstgemachtes Eis , Einladende, Liebe und herzliche Atmosphäre , Perfekt abgeschmeckte Gerichte!

Das Essen ist immer super frisch, regional und einfach lecker.
Das Tonka hat so eine warme, entspannte Atmosphäre. Man sitzt super gemütlich, wird vom Service herzlich empfangen und umsorgt und kann den Abend einfach genießen.
Für mich ist es mein Lieblingsrestaurant. Für immer.
Egal ob Abends (am Wochenende oder unterhalb der Woche) oder für den super leckeren Sonntagsbrunch. Eine echte Herzensempfehlung.

Read moreWir hatten das Kartoffelomelette mit Gemüse und Kartoffelschaum, das war wirklich ein Traum, dazu noch die Sauerteigschnitte mit Sauerkraut-Coleslaw und frittierten Austernpilze- mein Favorite so kunsprig und schmackhaft aber durch die Säure von Sauerkraut nicht zu fettig.
Außerdem hatten wir noch die Hokkaido-Bowl und den Scrambled Tofu und haben uns alles geteilt.
Besonders gut hat uns auch das hausgebackene Sauerteigbrot gefallen.
Es gab etwas Wartezeit bei den Speisen aber für die Qualität absolut okey wie ich finde
Zum Nachtisch gab es noch das Croissant French Toast mit Tonkaeiscreme und Portweinbeeren und Hafermilchreis mit karamellisierten Pflaumen und Joghurteiscreme das war auch mega gut und hat uns total abgeholt. Für mich das beste (vegane) Frühstück in Frankfurt.

Ich war auch hin und hergerissen. Die Köche haben was drauf, einiges war echt gut. Aber für den Preis muss alles sitzen. Damals gab es einen Käsekuchen, der so traurig und fad war, dass er nicht zum Gast hätte gehen dürfen. Dafür war anderes echt ein Highlight. Vielleicht Startschwierigkeiten.

Like a holiday in the Toscana - Edit
We've wanted to test the Tonka for a long time, but now we've finally done it and, what can I say... it was a restaurant visit that effortlessly made it onto my best list! Well, the menu is very small, but changes at quite short intervals, so you can still eat there more often without repetitions. We opted for the braised fennel with rosemary-tomato sauce, crispy potatoes and sourdough crackers and the oven red cabbage with panko breading, yellow beetroot salad and fermented tofu cream, plus a Kabinett Riesling and a Pinot Noir rosè after experienced wine advice. After we had delighted our throats with an amuse-gueule at the beginning and had eaten the homemade bread served afterwards with whipped and smoked margarine, both main courses convinced us first visually and subsequently also in taste all around! The wines kept their promise of rounding off or counter-accents and during the meal we felt discreetly accompanied by the service at all times, but never intrusively. The two desserts, the tonka mousse with white chocolate and blackberry-lavender ice cream as well as the matcha tiramisu with mirabelle plums and organic matcha and the subsequent espresso also kept the level high. Yes, you "wait" for the food for a while, but if you want to go fast, there are other, but less convincing alternatives, "good things take time" - we had time. We really can't understand the negative reviews and will soon come back to Tonka for dinner. An all-round successful evening with very friendly and attentive service at a reasonable price.

Ich freue mich über jedes neue vegane Restaurant in der Stadt, das etwas anderes als Falafel, Hummus und Burger anbietet, aber leider war der Besuch dennoch eher enttäuschend.
Read moreFür die aufgerufenen Preise fehlt den Speisen die Raffinesse. Die Portionen sind überschaubar und die Wartezeiten enorm. Eine Stunde für eine (kalte) Vorspeise, die eigentlich nur angerichtet werden musste. Wir hätten auch gerne mehr getrunken, wenn wir die Chance dafür bekommen hätten. Vielleicht fiel an dem Abend jemand aus und es lief deshalb nicht so rund. Das hätte man kommunizieren können.
In der Liga, in der man offenbar spielen möchte, gehört sich eigentlich auch ein Amuse Gueule. Das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis überzeugte so einfach nicht.
Der junge Mann im Service (einer der Betreiber?) war sehr nett, die Location ist schön und das Konzept sagt uns zu. Wir würden dem Lokal zu einem anderen Zeitpunkt nochmal eine Chance geben. Für das Geld bekommt man im Hohenheim aber einfach deutlich mehr geboten.

Like the concept of regional vegetable cuisine and the location is nice. Good to see that there finally is a place that is not using meat replacements and cooking vegan fast food! Regarding the food, there is still room for improvement. Starters were good, Deserts were delicious, but the main courses could not (yet) convince in terms of taste.

Wir sind so glücklich über dieses vegane Restaurant in Frankfurt-Bockenheim. Die Atmosphäre und der Service sind top. Das Essen lecker. Man bekommt etwas außergewöhnliches weil so bodenständig & doch schick. Das Gemüse zeigt sich so wie es ist und entfaltet hierbei seinen vollen Geschmack. Die Portionen könnten jedoch für die Preise noch etwas größer sein. Und mehr Dessertauswahl. Der Kuchen hat mit nicht sooo geschmeckt. Außen wäre ein Nichtraucher-Bereich toll.
