Hidden and authentic gem - Edit
Really glad I found this cafe / bistro in the YMCA close to St. Pancras and King's Cross stations. Portions are big and good value and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. There's really no downside to this place! It's just a little hidden because you have to take the YMCA entrance to get to it.

Deceiving good for you and your wallet - Edit
Tasty Indian food at super affordable prices in the heart of London.
Read moreLocated next to a YMCA and university campus’, this place attracts students and travellers alike. Great for grabbing a homely cooked meal if you’ve on a low budget.
If like myself, your student and life on the roads days are behind you and you have a little bit more money to spend, there are lots of other great vegan places to go for lunch. The food was good but it wasn’t great.
Super friendly staff and I would go back but I probably wouldn’t take company. Its not exactly ladies who lunch material.
*** next day edit
After much thought, I’ve increased my rating from three to four stars. And here is the reason why. I ordered a second meal because the first one didn’t fill me up. But after eating 1.5 lunch meals (took some left overs home), I was comfortably full. So much so I didn’t need dinner. The next day, my body felt great. At the time I was eating the food, I wasn’t conscious of this because the food was a little bit on the oily side for me, especially the wrap and stir fry veg that came with the daily lunch. But the food digested really well and was clearly very wholesome and nutritionally rich. For that, Thenga Cafe deserves an extra star.

Amazing! - Edit
Such good food - healthy and a bit spicy. Stuffed paratha particularly good and very filling. Staff are really genuinely friendly and believe in the vegan cause (they were raising money for Donate 4 Refugees when we were there too - Dec 2021). They have a vegan mango lassi, which ist the first time I've ever seen that! Delicious. Also, good prices for central London.

Friendliest cafe in London! - Edit
Wow, what a find. Thenga is located in the YMCA on Judd Street, just round the corner from Kings Cross and St Pancras. It looks a bit daunting from outside as all you see is a set of steps leading to who knows where. But it's well worth venturing in. Their main lunchtime deals are all £6.95, and we had the 'daily lunch' of dahl, rice and a side veg dish. I also had a lovely cup of masala chai. The food was tasty and good value for money (especially for London). We returned the next day for a cuppa before we caught our train, and the lovely man who had served us the day before remembered us. I also ordered a slice of their delicious banana bread, and he gave me the end slice too (which I saved for the train)! Can't wait to return when I'm next in London to try the stuffed parathas - they looked amazing. But the best thing about this cafe was the warmth of the staff who really made us feel so welcome - thank you Thenga Cafe!

Amazing little gem in London - Edit
Came here at 5.30 pm (half an hour before closing) and staff was super friendly and welcoming. I ordered the dosa which was filled with potato masala and came with dal and a green homemade chutney. Everything blew my mind. The dosa was thin and crispy, the potatoes were such comfort food, the dal was on point and the green chutney was otherwordly, never have I tasted something like that, refreshing, a little bit sourish and spicy at the same time. Got a pitcher of tap water without asking for it and the masala tea was great as well. Paid less than 10 £, amazing value for money, but this place will stay in my memories as the best vegan Indian food I've ever had.

What a great find. I used Happy Cow to try to find myself a vegan lunch before heading off to the British Museum for the afternoon. Thenga Cafe was marked as CLOSED on Happy Cow but it was very much open.
Read moreI ordered a wrap to take away which was packed with spinach, lettuce and pakora. Absolutely delicious! I hadn't realised it also included a portion of dahl which was a real bonus. All great value for £7.95.
I'd definitely go there again and will eat in, so that I can choose from the wider menu and eat in comfort, not on the move.

Great value vegan curry, just a hop skip and jump from Kings Cross rail - Edit
This is where I will be eating when I'm travelling through Kings Cross rail now that VX has closed.
Read moreJust around the corner of Cromer Street next to 90 Judd Street, there is an entrance via what looks like a fire exit. I had lentil dhal with rice/chapati, some veg and a samosa was a bit extra. The owner was interested enough to talk and made me feel very welcome. It is a shared table venue however it wasn't busy and I don't mind that anyway.
Pros: Vegan menu, Great value for this location, Friendly service
Cons: I don't mind however, some may not like to share a table
