Queen Inn - Edit
Lovely traditional pub with really welcoming owners. I stayed overnight in my campervan and had Sunday roast the day after. (Owners happy to allow campervans if buying a meal.)
Read moreI had a relaxing night lulled to sleep by the running water of the adjacent stream. Very quiet after the pub closes.
This place is very popular and you’ll likely need to book a table, it was full today. The roast is served in two sittings on Sundays, an extensive menu is available on other days and I’d love to return and try this soon. I had the homemade seitan roast, which came with a good selection of veg, roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding and a massive portion of gravy. I couldn’t fit in a pudding, but took away a portion of the lemon cheesecake for my daughter to have and it was scrummy.
Finally got to try here and I wasn’t disappointed 😋

My vegan partner and I went for a celebratory meal and couldn't fault it! Everything was great and on par if not better than the meat equivalent. Wouldnt hesitate visiting again sooner rather than later

Delicious classical cuisine - Edit
This vegan restaurant offers a wide selection of vegan alternatives to classical local food like fish'n'chips, steaks, pies, burgers, ... All the dishes we tried were delicious. Most remarkable was how dog-friendly this place is: Free treats, blankets so that dogs can come on the bench, water and dog-food selection

Amazing food and experience - Edit
A friendly welcome was followed by some amazingly tasty and very filling food. Highly recommend the mixed grill. It was incredible. Tried the Jaffa Cake pudding with ice cream and it was superb.
Read moreOnly thing, I'd like to see at the Queen's Inn and other places, is a separate area for those with dogs. This would accommodate those of us who love animals, but have allergies, and/or just don't want the strong smell/behaviour of someone's dog interfering with the enjoyment of a meal.
Hope to visit again.
Pros: Incredible food, Great service, Lovely experience
Cons: No sepearte area for those visiting with dogs

Thank you for your review, we do try to keep dogs in our Lounge area but not everyone tells us when booking 🙈 glad you enjoyed your visit and your food, hopefully see you again soon. 💚

A weekend in Cwmbran/ Pontypool - Edit
We decided to have a trip Down to Cwmbran because we wanted to try the Queen Inn after hearing so many good things. So we booked a Saturday lunch and A Sunday Lunch . For the Saturday Lunch we had the Lemon and Pepper Tofu and The Hunters Chicken and a side of Crispy Chilli Beef which was all absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. For Dessert we had the Sticky Ginger Sponge and Chocolate, which were sweet and indulgent a real treat.
Read moreOn the Sunday we had the juicy marbles steak and the Rosemary Chicken thighs Roasts. The Portion was generous and the veg were all cooked how I like them. It was a comforting traditional roast dinner that is just what I wanted, The chicken thighs were very realistic but this wasn't an issue for me. The Juicy Marbles was cooked just as the person wanted. We ended up with three clean plates. For Dessert we had Apple pie with Custard and Lemon and Berry Cheesecake with Ice Cream. The Cheesecake was zingy , light and tasty. The Apple pie was warming and filling. All in all the Queen Inn Didn't disappoint and we have even booked our festive meal at the Queen Inn for December. Highly recommend the Queen Inn
Pros: The food is a high standard , The menu has lots of choice , Staff were welcoming and friendly .

Gut busting portions - Edit
We'd been looking forward to eating at The Queen's Inn for months and it didn't disappoint. Well worth the wait. The Queen's is a typical pub set up with a covered beer garden. It's situationed on a hill next to a picturesque stream & there's ample parking.
Read moreWe shared the cheesy garlic bread to start. Then I ordered the chicken & BBQ ribs while my partner had the Queen burger. The portion sizes was great & we really enjoyed our meals. Very tasty. We both felt so full after that, that unfortunately we couldn't manage a dessert. I'd have loved to try something but again the dessert portion sizes were big & being so full, I just couldn't manage it 😞
I can definitely recommend The Queen's. It was wonderful having so much choice. It's such a novelty being able to choose anything in a menu and know that it's cruelty free. The waiting & bar staff were very friendly and welcoming.

I had an absolutely phenomenal experience at The Queens Inn in Cwmbran. The vegan food was outstanding—the best I’ve ever had! Disappointed - Edit
Very disappointed. Came here a few years back when they were vegan for just veganuary - absolutely loved it. I have been dreaming about returning for some time. However this time we felt incredibly let down. One of the meals we ordered was the fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce. This plate only has 4 components, a fairly simple dish. The meal was brought out with no tartare sauce. When the waitress brought out another meal we asked for the tartare sauce. She told us "the kitchen has been too busy to make it". I'm sorry, but that is a terrible excuse. Imagine bringing out Mac and cheese, without the cheese sauce because the "kitchen was too busy". Or a loaded fries without the topping. Not only was this a poor excuse, the attitude from the waitress was far from appropriate. If the kitchen was too busy, tell us before we order a meal. We would have happily picked another option. Or when you bring the plate out with something clearly missing, be honest and open. Don't wait for the customer to have to ask. We did ask if the kitchen had some time to make some sauce then that would be great, because in all fairness the fish and chips was bland and clearly needed that component. She eventually returned when we had a mouthful of dinner left with what could only be described as mayo, a chopped pickle with a sprinkle of parsley. No seasoning. Basically, it was just mayo.
Read moreWe have been vegan for 5 years and was looking forward to going out for a proper vegan pub meal. I for one won't be returning. We had been planning on having a dessert, because it's not often that you have the choice to, however, after that incredibly poor service I didn't want to waste any more money or time in this environment.
Maybe make the menu smaller and concentrate on smashing those items, as it didn't seem overly busy.
We did speak to a lady at the bar prior to leaving who offered us a dessert. However, at this point we were too disgusted with the service that we couldn't bring ourselves to stay.
On a positive note, the lamb kabab loaded fries was delicious.
Pros: Lamb loaded fries
Cons: Service, Attitude, Fish and chips

Lovely pub for a good vegan feed - Edit
I’ve been here twice so far and enjoyed it both times. The mixed grill is massive, big enough for 4! They only lose a point here because the second time I went it was not as good. The onion rings were undercooked so went soggy and not crispy, and the sauce had split and was inedible. The lamb skewer was pretty bland too. I think they were having an off day though and I’d definitely go back.

Traditional pub with all vegan menu. Specialises in meat substitutes which I’m not keen on, hence the rating. Friendly service in a lovely, off the beaten track location.

All vegan, nut free kitchen, all delicious! Really good portion sizes, we had to get some of our food boxed up to take home. Ultimate burger and the steak with peppercorn sauce were particularly excellent. Great service, lovely ambience and really nice outdoor seating area too. Oh, and ducks by the stream!
