An absolute must visit

Immediately we felt invited in and had a lovely chat! The place was cozy and a lovely vibe. Got some coffee and treats and then later picked up some pies with chips and mash. So blummin tasty! If you're in the area it's really worth taking a visit. Will be going back whenever we get a chance :D

Pros: Really friendly and inviting, Amazing food, Stands up for amazing causes

Better than Brighton!

Just spent 2 days in Brighton doing some serious eating. Arrived in Cardiff at lunchtime and decided to try the Pie Box. This proved to be better than anything we’d had in Brighton. Utterly scrumptious. Sat in for Bacn and Mac pie with gravy and chips (mash was finished) then had to sample the baking: a wonderfully light raspberry and pistachio pastry filled with custard and a fab coffee topped biscuity thing.
The space is light and bright with good solid tables that let you watch the world go by. Great range of options. I suggest they open a branch in Glasgow😋

Pros: The pies, The baking, The place

Cons: No toilet

Lovely!

The menu is not as big as it once was (vegan breakfast and French toast have gone), but what this place does, it does really well. A range of vegan pies, mash, and gravy, plus a new 'sausage' roll, and a ridiculously delicious selection of vegan cookies and pastries, which for me at least, are impossible to resist.

Pros: Simple menu, but lovingly made.

Cons: Quite small inside, so could get busy.

Amazing Vegan Pies

Great selection of vegan pies. I had the Cheezy Veg pie with chips and it was amazing. Definitely the best vegan pie I have tried.

Beautiful!

With a simple and to the point menu, exquisite cakes and wicked vibe, The Pie Box cafe on Tudor Road is one of the few remaining 100% vegan establishments in Cardiff. A testimony to their tenacity in a fast changing world and a city that was at one point saturated with vegan eateries.

The cafe itself is small with two full tables, a window breakfast bar and a bench with a coffee table. Getting a seat required a small wait as the cafe is very popular, especially with folks passing on the river trail nearby. (You can book a table in advance.)

We ordered the French toast and the bacon, mac and cheese pie with mustard cheese mash and then had a pear custard pastry and a pistachio chocolate cookie to takeaway.

The food was filling, different and delicious something that has people queuing out the door to try.

We'll be back!

Hits the spot

Delicious pies and pastries, very good coffee, just five minutes walk from Cardiff Central station -- in the wrong direction for the centre of the city but totally worth the detour.

Amazing cookie sandwiches!

The cookie sandwiches were so delicious I can’t wait to visit again! We also took some pies to go, they were lovely and really easy to reheat at home. Make sure to check if it’s open because the timings vary depending on the day of the week.

Pros: friendly staff, excellent cookies, Cosy seating

Cons: varying open hours

My favourite lunch spot

This is a fantastic little spot; its core offerings are tasty and creative takes on traditional British fare (pies, mash etc) made to completely plant based recipes. Alongside this is a café menu of coffee, cakes and cookie-sandwiches that can hold its own against any Starbucks-style coffee shop this side of Seattle. Menu is rounded out with a selection of brunch offerings: breakfast muffin, croissants etc.

It’s a cosy spot with a friendly team so always pleasant to visit. The only thing to note is that the food can take a while to come out; it’s well worth making time for - but don’t expect to be in and out unless you’ve called ahead.

Pros: Excellent quality, Great cakes and pastries, Innovative menu

Cons: Only open Thursday through Sunday, Can take a little while for food to come out

Amazing cafe!

Went into The Pie Box cafe after seeing their sign on riverside and I was not disappointed! The atmosphere was perfect and felt so welcoming on such a rainy day. I got a dirty chai and the avocado loaded toast and it was absolutely incredible!! It’s rare you find such a unique amazing vegan cafe and this one ticks all the boxes for me! I will be recommending to everyone I know vegan or not!! ⭐️

Pros: Everything

Cons: Nothing

Everything perfect about café’s

I am a seasoned café goer, if I’m honest that is an understatement. It’s more of a daily obsession. The level of professionalism and personal attention Rose and Eleanor have is unmatched. They are both so kind, nothing is too much trouble. I highly recommend the Iced Spiced Chai with oat milk and any and all of their cakes. If you are a visitor or a resident of Cardiff, this HAS to become part of your regular cafe list. Just next to the weekly riverside market on Sundays, it is the perfect end to your perfect morning to visit there after you’ve perused the market and admired the views of the river bute. It’s my favourite café in town and I can’t wait to visit again very soon.

Pros: Close to town , Amazing food and drinks, Personable and professional baristas

Cons: Not open everyday

Great pies

We waited 2 days for the pie box to open, and it did not disappoint! We tried 2 different pies with mash, both full of flavour with a delicious, moist pastry. The mash was good, too. We also had a milkshake and a speciality coffee (pistachio and white chocolate latte), which could be hot or cold. Both drinks were delicious and came with whipped cream.

We took cakes home with us. Both moist and delicious.

I wish this place was open throughout the week and earlier so we could get some pastries for breakfast!

A must visit if you are in Cardiff.

Pros: All vegan, Friendly staff

Cons: Not open early enough

Vegan pies and brownies nearby Cardiff Central

Close to the Cardiff Central train and bus station (5-7 min. walk).
Lovely athmosphere: natural wood furniture, relaxing, good for meetup in the city. They do cold and hot drinks, too. Their brownies and sweets look and taste great. The pies are their own, homemade. They also deliver via Uber Eats. Dogs are welcome.
I had a chicken and mushroom pie, and it was filling, with lovely hot gooey cheesy mushrooms centre. I also had a brownie with lots of chocolate on it. I felt stuffed!
The only thing I would like to be different is that pies are baked in aluminium forms, and aluminium, especially when heated, is a neurotoxin.
It's so good to have a plant-based place in the town! #Veganuary

Pros: Both savory and sweet food, hot and cold drinks, Natural wood in furniture, nice touch!, Close to Hanes, St David's mall, Cardiff Central

Cons: I personally try not to bake in aluminium forms, Server lady was lovely, but may be hard to call, From outside the place may look closed (dim lights

Lovely sweet goodies!

We popped into the cafe for some pastries before leaving Cardiff. There were a few yummy options, even though we arrived after midday.
The raspberry/coconut/pistachio pastry was especially dreamy!!

Lovely location for the cafe, as we took a stroll along the river and enjoyed our baked goods in Sophia Gardens.

We look forward to trying the savoury pies when we return to Cardiff!

The food was so good we returned the next day. Arrived around half 3, feasted on ale one and the beeef one with:
1. sheesy mash &
2. garlicky mash (with mustardy bits) Mmmm...had the good fortune to be given a freebie end of day lush peach pastry. Wow.
Returned midday and tried the chic'n leek pie, avo loaded toast...& had to get a biscoff milkshake & pistachio double cookie to go.

Pros: Top pies, fancy mash & gravy , Peach pastry, The lush dressing on the avo spinach loaded toast

Cons: Nope
