Nothing To Grow-n About

Alserkal Avenue is fast becoming a Mecca for the foodies of Dubai, and with the addition of this wonderful local chain, this notion has grown exponentially.
With nothing but positive experiences of dining at their other locations in the city, it was almost a foregone conclusion that I would enjoy my visit here, yet it proved to be better than I had ever bargained for.
Firstly, the location itself. A vast, cavernous industrial unit doesn’t usually scream ‘welcoming,’ but here, through the clever division of the space and the use of tasteful furnishings and decor, they have managed to generate a sense of homeliness. This, combined with their unique selling point of having a farm perched above the dining area, makes for a very relaxed, comfortable, and vibrant space.
Next, the food. Normally, when you see there is a falafel wrap on the menu, especially in a non-vegan establishment, it can set alarm bells ringing. Too often this dish can be found wanting in my ways, but this was far from the case with this iteration. Moist falafel, abundant salad, lashings of sauce, and a bread that defied logic—unfathomably soft, yet structurally robust—all made for a delightful, well-sized offering. The accompanying fries weren’t too shabby either, rounding off what was a thoroughly enjoyable plate.
Not to be outdone, the other sandwich, the Alfalfa Romeo, was mightily impressive. Stacked high with a multitude of roasted veggies and slathered in a vibrant beetroot hummus, it too provided a serious level of sustenance, backed up by an array of decent flavours.
Completing my foray into the savoury elements was the Bassmah's Bulgur. Hearty, wholesome, and zingy, it was yet more fine fodder.
There was no letupin the excellence when it came to the sweet side of things, either. Another of the list of potentially suspect items, here the granola bar was soft and supple whilst still maintaining a satisfying chew.
Finally, a special mention to the young man on the table next to me (and at times, mine) who was orchestrating quite the scene with his cavalcade of plastic animals while his mum earnestly did her best to ignore him. She may not have been interested, but it brought an extra slice of joy to my proceedings.
A great concept, superbly well executed, there is no reason for me not to recommend paying this establishment a visit, and I know I’ll be back for more of the same.
