So much potential...

While the quality of the vegetarian food at Flora Bakehouse deserves 4 stars (per my partner), I will give it a 1 star for lack of imagination and creativity with an overall rating of 2 stars (mostly due to their lack of interest in changing).

Like most restaurants and bakeries in Seattle you will find a diverse selection of animal-based focused foods (can include meat or not). At Flora Bakehouse, which is entirely vegetarian, their focus is having a diverse selection of pastries that have either animal-based egg or dairy. When it comes to vegan items though, there is a lack of imagination, and dare I say, laziness. They have the same few vegan items (both pastries and a savory item) day after day with little change but will have new and interesting non-vegan items all the time. Yet with their cadre of professional bakers they cannot even take the time or use their imagination to prepare vegan croissants, danishes, or other items that typically have animal products in them.

This is especially frustrating since the Flora group advertise themselves as creative yet cannot think of any way to make tasty, varied vegan products (ahem, delicious and flaky vegan croissants are not that hard to master) as well as claiming the focus on sustainability yet continue to use unsustainable and climate unfriendly food that directly exploit and harm animals.

I love the Flora group (especially Cafe Flora which has awesome dairy free and vegan options and a special place in my heart) but due to continued frustration of never having new vegan options and continuing only a limited selection of vegan foods, I no longer recommend Flora Bakehouse but will still go with my partner since they do love their non-vegan treats.

Made-to-order Cake

We got the coconut cake from here for a birthday, and it was easily the best vegan cake I've ever had. Soft and creamy, without giving that weird sticky feeling on the tongue that some icing tends to do.

Bummer.

I had a few bites of their vegan pumpkin pie last year + it was legit thee best I’ve ever had, but this place is hugely disappointing overall. There’s only like two vegan pastries in the entire case + only one vegan item on the made-to-order menu. Worse than that, the first time my partner went to pick up a breakfast burrito, they were sold out.

We got a couple burritos today + they were way bigger than I expected for $8.25/ea, but I had to drench mine in hot sauce + my partner had to pick out the “ungodly amount of kale” to make them palatable. Never again.

I gotta say I'd rather spend my money at an omni joint that caters more to vegans.

No vegan options today.

This is the third time I’ve stopped by and there’s nothing I can eat. It’s a bummer because it’s close and I really want to love it the way I love Cafe Flora and Floret…sadly this is the most un-vegan friendly veggie restaurant I think I’ve ever encountered. Please make more vegan options. I was told even the tomato soup wasn’t vegan😒

Needs more vegan options

Sorry, but I'm always disappointed with the Flora squad's lack of vegan options and this place proved to be no exception. A measly 2 vegan pastries out of a full case. Vegan breakfast burrito was decent and the staff was nice. But it's 2024, can these vegetarian people finally join the vegan revolution? The cows aren't that happy with this one.

Long line, not many vegan options

I love Flora but I thought they would have more vegan options here. Luckily we came for the vegan breakfast burritos and we were not disappointed. Typically we get these when we’re at SeaTac from Floret but it’s nice to have when we’re not traveling. The iced lattes were good too. I recommend coming in before 9 on a weekend if you want to beat the rush.

Few options, but good brownie

A few options, coconut cake, brownie, and breakfast burrito. We tried the brownie, which was $3 something ($3.75?). I think the cake slice was $7 though. It was pretty rich and decent in size. Tasted good, fun little spot. Worth a visit if you're close by, especially since there aren't many alternatives in the area. Not sure if you're further though. Would be nice to see more vegan items on the menu.

Pros: Tasty brownie , Cute spot , Staff seemed knowledgeable

Cons: Few vegan items

Lovely bakery

The vegan options here are great, but c’mon Flora, you can make more! There is the coconut cake standby, a vegan breakfast burrito, and usually another one or two (delicious) random vegan options. There is a hole and you guys can fill it! PLEASE!

Absolutely delicious

The vegan treats here are delicious. My favorite is the gluten-free brownie. It’s the best! They also have a vegan breakfast burrito that is filled with tofu, veggies and potatoes scramble. This is tasty also. Great non-coffee drink options too here, like matcha and turmeric lattes. I just wish they had more vegan options.

Great tasting treats and breads

I haven't been able to sit inside yet due to COVID-19 but I have tried their cakes, bread, and coffee and it was all delicious. I bought the Oat Bread which was amazingly fresh. In fact it was still warm form the oven! It was exactly my type of bread; hearty, filling, and no sweetness. Another standout was the grapefruit marmalade pastry. This was one of the best pastries I've had recently. Crispy and fluffy with a tangy fruity center. Amazing.

I will come back here as often as I can with the hope to try more of what they offer. My hope is that they will expand the bread menu to offer more hearty breads!

Pros: Excellent cakes., Fresh bread., Pretty interior
