Small, but lovely. Very friendly, food fantastic and our dog was welcomed too. Small menu but everything was great. We bought cakes to take away as we were too full to eat them after our lunch!

Only Cash (English bank notes) PayPal or bank transfer - Edit
You cannot pay with bank card, and they do not accept Scottish bank notes, even though Scottish bank notes are legal tender in the UK including Wales. I might expect this attitude in arts of England but was shocked to experience it in Wales! Another argument for an independent Scotland 🏴

Not sure how our vegan cafe has been linked to Scottish independence…

How do you propose to do something ? I was very open and honest with Becky (one of the owners) and told her that by refusing to accept Scottish bank notes I was being made to feel less than as not accepting Scottish money is truly the passive aggressive off hand belittling of Scotland and Scottish people, which I did not expect to happen in Wales or in a vegan cafe in Wales. I believed that fellow Celts would understand. To my ear Becky did not appear to have a Welsh accent and so maybe this explains her being so offhand & oblivious as to why this behaviour is upsetting to Scottish people. When Scottish people are made to fell less than (2nd class citizens) in other parts of the UK it is yet another argument for Scottish Independence. Hopefully you now understand the link?

Firstly petrinemcshane let's get one popular misconception corrected.
Read moreIn England and Wales, only Bank of England notes and Royal Mint coins are considered legal tender.
https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/explainers/what-is-legal-tender
What you need to do is what millions of tourists do when they come to England and Wales and that it exchange their toy town Monopoly money into sterling.
For information you can do this at any bank or post office. Currently the exchange rate is 1:1 but that will certainly change if Scottish independence goes ahead.
Secondly you comment on the lady serving's accent is grossly racist. There are many Welsh people in Carmarthenshire who have very English sounding accents. Also I am not aware of any legal definition as to what is a Welsh person.
I am not connected to the business but a frequently in there and see how welcoming and friendly the owners are even to grumpy miserable gits. I couldn't do their job. They are hard working and are very well thought of in the local community. I doubt you can say the same.

Perfect! - Edit
Amazing, amazing, amazing!! We are pretty well traveled vegans and have eaten at some of the very popular vegan restaurants around the country and this has to be up there as a must visit. We both had a delicious burger and our friend had pancakes, everything was perfect and the fresh cakes on the counter are delicious. We loved it so much we are planning to return in June 💕

Delicious Vegan Food - Edit
Beautiful vegan restaurant run by a lovely couple Becky and Barry!
Read moreAs 3 vegans and 2 vegetarians we were able to order whatever we wanted and know it was peaceful and soooo tasty!
Loaded bagels and home cooked lasagne, chips and homemade coleslaw, tea cake and chocolate vanilla cake, lattes and soft drinks!
We didn’t even take photos of our food because we were too excited to eat. We came from a walk on Black Rock Sands and it took 10 minutes to drive. So it’s in a great location!
Free local car park just off the high street.
Thanks Becky & Barry

Lovely place! - Edit
Stopped by here as we were staying by. I have been wanting to try this place for a while and followed the on IG so I was thrilled when I found out the place I booked was round the corner. Lovely little place with so many options from breakfast, lunch/dinner and sweet treats. They also provide mushroom coffees which I really wanted to try but was so full up from the bacon maple pancakes and blueberry and vanilla bun. I will 100% be coming back. The staff are also so lovely and chatty and made myself and my friend feel so welcome. One of us weren’t vegan or veggie and they also very much enjoyed it and us looking forward to returning 🌱

New Owners as of September 2025! 🦍🌱 - Edit
The Eating Gorilla is something of a vegan institution in North Wales. The cafe was established in 2019 by Diane and Robin, and as of June 2025, the business was ranked the top 8th vegan eatery globally on Happycow.
Read moreIn September 2025, The Eating Gorilla was taken over by Becky and Barry. The eatery is still fully vegan, and as they are still settling in the former opening times, payment methods and decor are currently unchanged. The menu at present is small and changes frequently, and it is often posted on Facebook. Some of the types of dishes on offer include stews, soups, curries, pasties, bagels, burgers, paninis, and quesadillas. There are also baked sweet treats available, some of which include lemon drizzle cake, chocolate chip cookies, banana muffins, fig & almond cake, biscoff tiffin and apple tiffin cake.
I visited for the first time today and went for a Quesadilla, Almond Flat White, and a Chocolate Orange Cookie Bar, and I also took a Vanilla Tray Bake slice away. The quesadilla was well presented and satisfyingly crispy, and the coffee was superb. I also really enjoyed both baked treats, especially the tray bake.
I am SO thrilled that the business has been taken over by lovely new people who are keeping the business vegan. I am really excited to watch them put their own stamp on the place and to try more of their vegan delights. Vegans in North Wales I urge you to visit The Eating Gorilla as there are so few fully vegan eateries left in the region it is important to show our support now more than ever!
NOVEMBER 2025 UPDATE:
The Eating Gorilla is now open on Saturdays, and they have fixed Brunch and Lunch menus. They are also running Christmas events, have a variety of specials daily, and have added lots of new ranges to the vegan products they sell in the cafe. Check out their active socials and updated website, and be sure to pay a visit because Becky and Barry are doing a fantastic job with the business!! 💚 🦍

Great food and drinks, and all vegan. Big portions, good value for money. Wide range of meals and often do specials, the veganuary 3 course deals were particularly outstanding as all homecooked food (including bread and pastries). Diane is an excellent chef, so I feel super lucky that she is vegan and this is local to me :-)

I had the iced chocolate honeycomb drink and my husband had a mocha, a brilliant standard of chocolate and coffee used in both (they sell both there too). The food we had the l#mb kofta and the chickless tikka flatbreads and a "side"(more like a main) of cauliflower wings, the portions are huge!

Fantastic find - Edit
I visited The Eating Gorilla because it was the only vegan place for miles. We were taken by surprise by how lovely it was. It seemed very out of place in a tiny, quaint village when I'd expect to see it in the likes of Edinburgh. The food was delicious and the servings were huge! We left with a takeaway lunch to feed ourselves in a vegan barren area the next day. Cake and chocolate bars, we were sorted. Highly recommend a visit.

Excellent vegan cafe - Edit
Stopped in for a late breakfast on route to our next camping stop, hubby had the avocado, rocket, tomatoes with chilli flakes, and lime on toast.
Read moreI had feta mushrooms on toast (without rocket, don't like the stuff)
Both were extremely tasty and freshly prepared, with an excellent combination of flavours.
I also had a slice of cheesecake (raspberry and gin, gluten-free) absolutely delicious 😋 hubby had a matcha, blueberry and white chocolate gorilla ball which he thoroughly enjoyed.
We took away 2 cornish pasties to have later, and of course I had to have another piece of cake! The carrot and pistachio tray bake was lush, moist, and full of flavour.
I also bought some solid shampoo bars and handmade soap.
Please go if you're ever in the area, it's well worth a visit! 🌱☕️🍰😋❤️
