Go for the Sichuan-style chicken!!

One of my favorite Sichuan dishes is the classic spicy chicken dish, and I've chased vegan versions of it around the globe. This is my favorite rendition so far - delightfully chewy and flavorful in an authentic way. We also got the mapo tofu, which was great, and a string bean dish, which was not the typical Chinese string bean dish I was expecting and not my favorite. A bit expensive but seems like many dishes are probably worth it.

Wow!

So good!

We ordered the cucumber salad, mapo tofu, and fried duck and everything was delicious! The tofu had a good level of spice (which can be hard to find in Berlin) and the cucumbers were tasty and refreshing. The duck was truly incredible, I would definitely recommend this dish in particular. The menu has a wide variety of options and of course I love that it’s all vegan. Definitely worth a visit!

My favorite in Berlin

Of the ten or so vegan restaurants/cafes that I visited during my stay in Berlin, this was probably my favorite. For a starter I had the Dan Dan Mian and as main dish I had Mapo Tofu. They were both super delicious — quite hot and spicy, yet still full of flavor!

Wiederholungsbedarf! 🤩

Pros: Preis-Leistung, Geschmack , Auswahl

Tasty Chinese food

Food is tasty and service is friendly. Good to have other types of vegan cuisine available😄The name makes it looks like it is a couples restaurant, but guests not romantically involved are also welcome.

Great Chinese food in Mitte

Unfortunately didn’t take any photos but thoroughly enjoyed our meal at the butterfly lovers.
Went on a Tuesday night which ended up being a busy night for them.
All the food was great but a prewarning the mapo tofu is fantastic but spicy.
Value for money and decent portion sizes.

Recommended

We sat outside, during a time when not many tables were booked. So I can’t say anything about rush hours.
Outside is well kept and a really nice area.
Both bathrooms were partially out of order, might be an issue when crowded.

Food is very well presented and tastes great.

Staff is nice.

Will be back.

Fabulous mock duck

Lovely venue with cute garden, we had won tons and spring rolls, both pretty standard. We had the summer special teriyaki pork belly and mock duck, both lovely but the duck was very delicate with a dipping sauce not an overwhelming sauce like a regular Chinese rest. I like noodles but most dishes come with rice, which made me a touch sad but would def go back.

Pros: Yum food, Nice garden

Cons: Only one spicey noodle dish

Delicious Vegan Szechuan Cuisine

The Butterfly Lovers offer a fully vegan approach to the much hyped Szechuan Cuisine. Dishes are flavorful and plenty and the level of spiciness is not only stated on the menue but also customizable. So do not fear the famous Szechuan Pepper! I highly recommend the cold cucumber salad, the Mapo Tufu and the Sweet Potato flat noodles. Absolutely delicious.

Tasty and healthier than many

This felt like healthier options overall than the mock meat centric Chinese vegan options I’m used to in the USA. My lunch special was good (tofu and cabbage, green beans, some other items in a bento box), as was my mango lassi. Cute outdoor eating area.

Pros: All vegan, Tasty, Cute outdoor area

Really enjoyed it!

Very cozy outdoor seating in their patio and friendly staff.

The food came super quick and I enjoyed the meal. My dry sichuan chicken was really Nicely presented, but in the end a bit too dry for my taste and lacking veggies in the dish. (But I guess that's how it's supposed to be) The tofu pot Sichuan style was our favorite and really flavorful and spicy. Staff will also give you recommendations and can adapt the spicyness level to your taste.

Pros: Nice patio, Broad menu

The Butterfly Lovers

I tried the mapo tofu and a couple other dishes, and while everything was decent, none of the flavors really stood out. It was a little bit of a letdown because it seemed like such a nice place. I did like the ambiance at night and the service.

Kitchen closes at 3 (at the latest) for lunch

I endured some heavy rain before finally finding this place. To my amazement, they told me they close at 3 PM, despite that not being indicated anywhere.. and it wasn't even 3 PM yet! Since I was about to embark on a 15-hour-long train journey, I begged, pleaded and implored, but was met with zero flexibility. To be fair, the waitress actually was apologetic, but the chef, who probably made the decision, was busy having a smoke outside, and throwing the [censored] on the ground. While common in Berlin, I would like to think we ought to hold vegan restaurants to a higher standard.. both in terms of empathy/flexibility and civility.

surprisingly amazing

I've never been a big fun of Chinese restaurants (Chinese home made food is way better, at least in my experience) but we decided to give a try to this vegan alternative. To our surprise it was very good. The menu has many spicy dishes, but you can ask them to tame the strength. There are also non-spicy ones to choose from. Spring rolls and sweet sour sauce were delicious. The chicken tofu was very crispy and tasty. The duck was yummy besides the overly salty veggie that it came with. And the dessert was interesting and very tasty too. It is a must visit even for those who, like me, aren't fun of fast food type Chinese restaurants.

Pros: Tasty food, nice staff, pleasant atmosphere and nice bathroom

Magnificent

Really authentic flavours, so hard to find vegan Chinese food which captures the full range of tastes. Great staff, enormous choice to experiment with ‘ungedeutscht’ (westernised) Chinese food. Selection of vegetable and plant based ersatz meat dishes.

Pros: A whole menu section for eggplants 😍, So much too choose from, The cold dishes!

Cons: They serve a bit quickly , Suggest you order entree, eat, then order mains

Really good vegan chinese food!

There's nothing to criticize really. I especially loved the vegan duck and the vegan "pork belly meat" my friend had. Attentive service too :)
