INCREDIBLE VIBE AND FOOD - Edit
How have I not rated this place before? My favorite vegan place in the Bay Area, at least for comfort food. Shizen is pretty nice… anyhow, especially with their beautiful rose garden, this is a great place for brunch on a sunny day.

Outstanding! Incredible! A triumph! - Edit
What is there to say that hasn’t already been said? This place is phenomenal. It has a huge menu, and I’ve yet to try something that wasn’t delicious. The tofu “mozzarella” sticks are a real highlight. The portions are very generous, so consider sharing a sandwich if you’re not too hungry.

Delicious AF - Edit
I ordered the Rueben on sourdough with mozzarella instead of rye and Swiss. It was soooo good. I also enjoyed a pistachio cannoli. The cannolis were sitting in a case so I thought they may be a little soggy. It was not, rather, it was perfect! The sandwich prices are a little high but really, the Rueben was so big, it would have been enough for two. I think I was the only customer who cleaned her plate; I saw other customers pack their leftovers to-go. The coffee is free (w oat or soy) so that was a bonus plus now I’ll be up all night. Indoor and outdoor seating. Ample street parking. Wish I lived in Berkeley.

Amazing options - Edit
Went for dinner, so excited to try and was excellent. We shared the fishy appetizer, it was delicious and my favorite item we got. I had the pastrami which was also good. My son got the buffalo chicken sandwich also yummy. My wife got the fried squash sandwich, surprisingly tasty. To end had the strawberry cheesecake, very nice texture, wish it had a little more tanginess to it. If in Berkeley definitely stop here.

So Good - Edit
This place is awesome, I have tried a few sandwiches but my favorite is FOR SURE the Chicken Fried Tofu sandwich.
Read moreI always get it without the sriracha mayo, because it’s a little too much for me, but I also ask for the Fried Tofu to be dipped in Buffalo Sauce, which just makes it the best thing ever.
Awesome outdoor area, that is shared with a Pizza place next door.
They always also have a great selection of Vegan meats, pasta salad, coleslaw, vegan chocolate bars, and delicious desserts.
Pros: Fully Vegan restaurant with nice people , Free Coffee & Unlimited sauce, Free pickle
Cons: Kinda expensive

A must try! - Edit
I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. I go here every time I am in Berkeley. Every holiday season I order their sides like stuffing and desserts. Their Mac salad is to die for and they have a great variety of items in their market. I love the ceasar salad with fried chikin and I also love the chikin parm sandwich that is served on garlic bread!

Lives up to the hype - Edit
Wish I could give more than 5 stars! I’m usually wary of sandwich shops because the food is often very heavy. Not so here. I tried the Killer BLAT and it was super filling and amazingly delicious without any of that heavy, greasy feeling. You can taste the quality in the ingredients. It tasted so good I ate way more than I normally do, every bite is addictively delicious!

Best option in San Fran area - Edit
We were saddened by the lack of good looking options in the San Fran area but were so happy we made the drive here to try this awesome food. So good we went back again before we headed out of town.

Been awhile since my last visit 2017 - Edit
Can't believe it's been that long since last review. Not much had changed with the overall establishment.
Read moreKiller Blat was chicken mostly, pulled high with lettuce tomato and peppers on toasted bread with avocado spread. Hard to find the bacon and flavor but still pretty decent. Messy to deal with and high stacked for small mouths😁. Somehow managed to plow through.
Add on fries w with crispy and thin the way I like.
Don't skip the pickle, free on request. A real deli style pickle, crunchy and sour.
Nice and quiet since it was a late 3pm lunch. Quick service and friendly greeting.

Vegan Deli and Outdoor Patio - Edit
A great place to go to find homemade deli slices on thoughtfully crafted sandwiches! It’s hard to find this anywhere- let alone the Bay Area, and while they have an extensive menu, don’t think too hard because all the sandwiches are a hit!
Read moreI went for lunch and shared a smoked pastrami and Buffalo chicken sandwich with garlic fries. Their fries are also insane! Free coffee and assortment of condiments made the experience even better.

Best Deli in the Bay - Edit
Checked out The Butcher's Son after having heard about it and us being in the area for Bizerkeley Food Fest. We escaped the lines to find a good meal and they absolutely did not disappoint.
Read moreTheir sandwich selection here was incredibly extensive that it made it hard to choose. I ultimately with their Fried Chicken Caesar with Garlic Fries ($20) and had a humongous, crispy plant-based chicken sandwich with all the salad's fixings you could ask for. The sandwich was so big that I ended up saving 1/3 of it for dinner and I sit here still feeling pretty full.
My friend's also enjoyed their two sandwiches - one got the BLAT and another a Chicken Bagel Sandwich. Oh, and the free coffee and water stations were both nice touches to include.
Now I did notice the amount of garlic fries I got was not a lot when I scroll through pics from earlier this year - man, people's plates were JAMMED with fries but mine pale in comparison lol. They're still good though!
Pros: Fully vegan menu, Lots of sandwich options, Free coffee and water
