Special occasion Thai food - Edit
We stopped by for our last evening in New Orleans. They had a long list of mocktails and n/a beers, which were perfect for our family. The food tasted different from other Thai food we have had - some more like Indian food and some more like Chinese food. We got two appetizers (okra & tofu satay) and two entrees (a tofu noodle soup and a jackfruit curry). We also got a small slice of the chai cheesecake - which I didn't know at the time cost $22! There are awards on the wall that show that the chef won 2 New Orleans vegan cooking contests. Service was very nice and attentive. 20% tip is included and there are signs saying that this is to help them pay a living wage. Two appetizers, 2 entrees, one Thai iced tea, one n/a beer, 3 mocktails, and one small slice of cheesecake came to $175 including the tip. You can decide if that's what you're looking for! I'd say our average meal in New Orleans, buying one of just about every vegan option and sharing it at many different restaurants, cost about $80, so this is much more expensive. Bonus though, they give you pandan water, which we discovered is delicious!

My new favorite Thai restaurant - Edit
We were blown away by our experience here. First of all it felt very upscale for the price--nice flatware, plating, and decorations! They have a fully vegan menu if you flip to the back which is several pages long. I'm only sad we couldn't try more so I will definitely be back. We decided to get the tofu satay appetizer which was perfectly crispy on the outside and very soft in the middle with a delicious dipping sauce. For mains, I ordered the pumpkin curry with 5-spice tofu. This tofu was much firmer/different texture and seasoned differently than the satay which I really appreciated that they have multiple preparations! It was so tasty and the curry was incredibly flavorful. My partner had the jackfruit curry and it was their first time having jackfruit. They really liked it, and I did, too! Everything was so beautifully prepared and yummy. We also enjoyed the blooming tea which was so pretty to watch open up in front of us at the table. I can't forget to mention that they always have vegan desserts!! They had many options this time including a vegan chai cheesecake (I wanted to try the pistachio one but someone before us took the last slice--darn!) which was heavenly. Even the water is flavored with a little pandan which was such a nice touch. It's not a huge place so I think a reservation is definitely preferred. Besides that I have no notes. Can't wait to return and try the rest of the vegan menu!

Speechless. Run, don't walk! - Edit
I was so impressed by the food that I was speechless beyond "wow", "holy smokes", and "this is incredible". My bf and I were both blown away. I went back for lunch the next day. Highly recommend the fried okra appetizer, and the vegan Khao Soi.

Some of the best food I’ve ever had - Edit
My partner and I went here for our anniversary while on vacation. We were blown away with everything we got. Wish I could give it 5 stars. Genuinely one of the best food experiences we’ve ever had. It’s also made me question the Thai food I’ve had in the past that I thought was really good.

The appetizers were amazing, the peanut sauce with the Tofu Satay was the best I’ve ever had. The Pumpkin Curry was probably the best curry I’ve ever tasted, just, wow. And the Tom Kha was also the best Tom Kha I’ve ever tried, and I’ve had quite a bit of Tom Kha!

Incredible Vegan Food - Edit
This was hands down one of the best vegan curries i have ever had, so many vegan options as well as GF. Both of my parents (non-vegan) also loved their vegan meals. Absolutely wonderful service and friendly staff.

OMG- AMAZING! - Edit
Ate here on our first night in NOLA. I felt guilty for not choosing a place with more of a NOLA flare- but SO glad we did. They had several PAGES of vegan options in addition to carni for my partner. In terms of French Quarter restaurants, this felt more quaint and more upscale. You could tell that the chef cared a lot about the menu and quality. Satay tofu and Mushroom salad- amazing. Surprise vegan smores cheesecake- YES PLEASE! And my meat-eater was equally impressed and delighted with his meal. So, highly recommend if you are a vegan dining with non-vegans. Also thought our server was great- friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu.

Simply Wonderful! - Edit
This is a tiny restaurant with award winning food and a superb staff! We are WFPB and found plenty of choices to meet our dietary needs. Our server, Gabe, could not have been friendlier and more helpful. We will return again before the end of our seven days stay.

Delicious! - Edit
This is delicious Thai cuisine!
Read moreThey have a dedicated vegan menu. I ordered tofu satay: three slabs of tofu on skewers with sauce and a spicy cucumber salad. Then a green curry- this was originally served with tofu slices with small circles of eggplant between them, lions and mushrooms surrounded by green curry sauce. It was so good! I got mine to go - the dishes in the restaurant looked beautifully served.
I went back and ate in. It was even more delicious. I had the tofu satay (again) followed by the massaman jackfruit curry and my companion had the eggplant. Both were incredible, and the eggplant was served in a completely original and delicious way.
HIGHLY recommend!

My favourite restaurant in NOLA - Edit
What a great experience from start to finish. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The interior was beautiful. Vegan dishes were clearly labelled on the menu, and there were a fair few options to choose from. I picked tofu satay and a pumpkin tofu curry with jasmine rice. Top scores for presentation. Everything was fresh, delicious and packed with flavour. I took half of my main with me and had it for lunch the next day. Would definitely recommend this place.

Delicious vegan menu - Edit
The chef won the NOLA vegan chef challenge in 2023 with the massaman jackfruit dish, which I wish I tried! I liked the okra, although it was a bit too spicy for me, and the tom kha tofu soup. It was tasty but the soup had really tough pieces of lemongrass I needed to remove.

Outstanding vegan options, best ever Thai food. - Edit
Would give them 5 stars. I eat Thai a ton and this was the best I've had in the USA. Very pleasantly surprised by the vegan menu which was fantastic - the best peanut sauce for tofu satay I've had. The green curry was amazing too. Just be warned the spice level is for Thai folks so we found medium to be quite spicy but still enjoyable. Small restaurant with quick service and turnover.

No longer in Baton Rouge😒 - Edit
Update: this restaurant closed its BR Location and moved to NOLA!
Read moreThaihey was previously located in White Star Market. After that trendy food hall closed, Thaihey moved to the new location on Lee Drive, which offers a convenient drive-through window and home delivery. And then they moved to New Orleans.
The current menu is quite small, but they seem to emphasize doing a smaller number of dishes really well, instead of trying to offer mediocre versions of every imaginable dish. The vegan options are clearly identified, and the ones we tried were fabulous and flavorful. We enjoyed the Khao Soi Tofu (yellow curry soup, with sweet potato noodles) and the Pumpkin Curry (also with tofu). We left a note in the online order requesting "Thai spicy, not American spicy," and Thaihey did not disappoint -- the flavor and heat-level was exactly what we wanted. (YMMV if you order without some level of spicy -- just tell them what you want in the notes!)
The Khao Soi Tofu soup has a rich coconut milk base. The purple sweet potato noodles that come with it are interesting and delicious. For take out, they package the noodles and garnishes separately, to add to the soup right before eating it at home.
The Pumpkin Curry is a classic red curry, with coconut milk. We were worried that it might be too sweet with pumpkin, but it's not at all. The pumpkin is actually just big chunks of some kind of squash -- it's not "pumpkin-tasting" in the flavor. It may help to think of it as a vegetable/tofu curry with squash. I judge Thai restaurants based on their red curry quality, and this is a GOOD ONE (actually, it's the only really good one in Baton Rouge IMHO). It doesn't taste like it came out of a jar, like a lot of subpar Thai curries do. We lived in California for years, and this is the first one I've found locally that is in the same league as West Coast Thai food -- and the only Thai restaurant in BR that I trust not to sneak fish sauce into everything.
I'm looking forward to trying all of the vegan options!

Very cool vibe to this small Thai restaurant. Amazing staff and even more amazing food. Everything from the floor layout to the dish presentations was well thought out.
Read moreI got the fried tofu and lotus root small plate and the Khao Soi vegan entree.
The fried tofu and lotus root was fried to perfection and that Thai spice was fantastic. I wish they bottled that up and sold it. 10/10 - will order again!
The Khao Soi curry was mind blowingly delicious. It was heavenly. Expertly seasoned, perfectly balanced textures and richness. Absolutely everything you want a curry to be. By far the best Thai I've ever had. I'd fly to NOLA specifically for this!! 12/10.
Everything about this place was incredible and was firing on all cylinders.
Pros: Separate vegan menu, Awesome atmosphere and staff, Stupidly good food.
Cons: Nothing at all this place was perfect.
