New favorite in NY - Edit
Been vegan for 13 years and this has quickly become my new favorite lunch spot in the city. It’s not overpriced, large quantities, incredibly tasty and healthy. The menu is large and diverse. Everything I’ve had here has been amazing - burrito, burger, spinach artichoke dip, nachos…I can’t recommend enough.
Read moreIf you were a fan of Organic Grill this place scratches the same itch. Finally a new vegan place that isn’t just junk food or reheated impossible burgers. GO HERE U WONT REGRET IT!
Pros: Quick service, Fair price for what you get, Delicious, healthy, not too salty or oily

Disorganized and Disappointing - Edit
From the time I walked in the door, I didn't feel very welcome and the whole experience felt disorganized and uncomfortable. You order at the counter, but there's no menu on the wall so you have to make your way to the counter (which is crowded with people) to find a menu. The staff mostly ignored people until THEY were ready to take your order, no "hi, we'll be with you in a minute". I ordered the vegan Caesar salad with tofu and my friend the stuffed pepper. We took our number and sat and waited a long time for the food. The table next to us flagged down the server at one point and asked why their food was taking so long, so it wasn't just us. When it finally came, my friend's food was lukewarm and my salad was big, but the lettuce was rusty looking and they forgot to add the tofu. Overall a disappointing experience. I might go back at some point in the future. I know they're fairly new so maybe they're just getting their bearings.

Be careful - Edit
This place served me a sandwich with goat cheese and told me it was vegan. Everything on the menu has a “V” on it and I asked if that meant everything was vegan. The dude taking my order said yes. Clearly they need to train their staff better. However, the website also says everything is vegan but that’s clearly not the case.

Amazing delicious healthy comforting food in good-sized portions - Edit
This may our new favorite restaurant in the NYC! In a city that is increasingly vegan-friendly but that won’t stop assaulting us with deep-fried mushrooms and buffalo cauliflower, Spring Cafe Aspen sets themselves apart by serving up vegetable-forward dishes that are healthy, delicious, and generously portioned.
Read moreFirst, the health-conscious aspect. We came across them on a (very short) list of seed oil-free restaurants. Their website says they are free of “inflammatory oils.” Very little of their food is fried or highly processed. It’s next to impossible to find restaurants in NYC or anywhere that accommodate a whole foods/plant-based diet, and even harder to find staff knowledgeable about the ingredients of their food. At Spring Cafe Aspen, the staff actually knows the ingredients of each dish and are very accommodating of questions and preferences, such as my wish to avoid coconut oil. If they don’t know the answer to a question, they have access to the ingredient lists for everything. Next, the flavor. Despite being low in oil and free of overly processed ingredients, their food is delicious! Our favorite item so far has been the cauliflower risotto (warm, comforting, creamy and rich; packed with vegetables and flavor). Our other favorite is the lentil meatballs and spaghetti (incredible meatballs, excellent sauce full of basil, and pasta you would have no idea is made with brown rice). The menu is full of great tidbits such as the epic cashew mac and cheese and the tempeh that is raw and locally sourced (Barry’s!)
The portions - generous without going overboard. (You won’t go home hungry after eating the cauliflower risotto!)
It’s also worth mentioning that the vibe of Spring Cafe Aspen is a little different from the typical hippie or hipster flair of many other vegan/vegetarian restaurants in the city. The vibe hovers somewhere between hot yoga studio and business school seminar. Also slightly confusing is the setup - they have all the makings of a sit-down restaurant right down to cloth napkins, but they do not truly have table service. You wait in line to order and then bring a number to your table. Makes it harder to enjoy a cup of coffee or spontaneous turmeric latte after lunch, but definitely not a dealbreaker.
In conclusion, this is an epic brunch spot whipping up healthy food that manages to be both comforting and innovative; they have already become one of our regular spots.
Pros: Seed oil free, minimally processed ingredients, good sized portions , helpful knowledgeable staff
Cons: Lack of full table service

Good breakfast choice - Edit
Cute and bright with interesting art and friendly staff. Ordered the green tofu scramble with a green recovery juice and a vegan quesadilla. Nice place to sit and get out of the cold. Will try the vegan blueberry pancakes next time.

Very disappointing - Edit
Apparently this app doesn’t let me give one star.
Read moreThis place is very disappointing. I had the burrito and it was barely spiced, the “sour cream” was a liquid, and the cheese I side wasn’t melted. That was a lot of money for a terrible burrito.

Exciting new veg/vegan spot - Edit
A fast-casual restaurant in the heart of NYU. All veg with loads of vegan items. I had the tempeh-avo-lettuce/tom sandwich, a fruit-nut ball, and a beet juice; my companion had the tacos (daily special); all were very good. I can't wait to return to try the other items.
Read moreThe service was quick and knowledgeable about the specifics of the items, the place is clean and bright. There are nice outdoor tables along West 4th.
Pros: All veg/vegan, Good quality, Terrific location

Charming yet roomy cafe - Edit
I rarely rate non-vegan places 5 stars (especially in NYC, where there are so many vegan choices), but this all-vegetarian place (with many vegan choices) seems special. It is a relaxed yet classy cafe: you order at the counter, and they bring your food to you without too much of a wait, even when things are busy. My friends and I have had lunch and breakfast here. The food is really tasty and healthy, and the portions are very filling. This is in the same place where Dojo used to be, but it is a great improvement over Dojo.
Read moreBTW, the gluten free, soy free tempeh is particularly delicious here.

Light filled café with tempting options - Edit
Really appreciate a great breakfast option opening at 8 AM, hard to find a New York City! I got the chickpeas shashuska and it was very flavorful, though monochromatic once the toast and avocado garnishes were gone. Lots leftover to pack up. The table next to make got the pancakes with banana brittle, blueberry compote, and whipped cream and they looked and smelled incredible! Large portions, expensive, a long wait for the food, nice menu.
