Tasty Szechuan for Vegans

Our party stopped here after touring the High Line and Little Island, before continuing to a Broadway show. Good was amazing and the entire experience was very enjoyable. Dan Dan noodles! Cumin Fries!

Pros: Vegan options , Ambiance, Service

Cons: A bit pricey

One of the best Spicy Moon experiences ever!

My partner and I are Spicy Moon fanatics (having been to all Spicy Moon locations more than a couple dozen times collectively). We were excited to try the newer addition located in Chelsea. Conveniently located by various train lines.

It was well-decorated. Felt cozy but not cramped. It was a severely hot summer day so we wish it was slightly more air conditioned. But it was pleasant enough.

We went with our usual go-to’s (and tried a new dish, #3):
1) Dan Dan Noodles with Beyond Beef (level 2 for spiciness): A bit more oily than we’re used to but had excellent flavoring and balance of heat
2) Crabless Rangoon dumpling: One of my fave appetizers. I don’t like super sweet guava purée sauce but the dumplings stand out on their own in my opinion
3) Sizzling Tofu (located under Chef’s Specials): not sure if this was unique to the Chelsea location, but I had not seen this on other Spicy Moon menus. We were excited to try and this may be my all-time favorite dish!! A MUST. A bit pricy ($30) but super delicious!

Will definitely be adding this Spicy Moon location to our go-to vegan spots!

Great Vegan Szechuan Food!

There’s a decent amount of seating inside and the ambiance is really nice. They also have a small bar and a drink menu, though that’s not really my thing. The food was great! I had the cumin tofu with added vegan beef—it had the perfect level of spice. I went with the lunch special and added a spring roll, which came out crispy and hot. The filling was tasty (mostly veggies, no fake meat), and it came with a creamy mayo-style sauce that was surprisingly good. For dessert, I had a cupcake—delicious, but pretty basic. I kind of regret not getting the mochi! Definitely recommend this place.

Pros: Great food, Good selection , Nice seating area

Other location better customer service

Food was as good as other location.

But here the customer service was poor. They had a sign outside for bottomless drinks. I asked what it consisted of and I didn't get an answer. I saw the menu and it was for mimosas. I ordered 3 only got 2. Then, the guy came out while I was waiting for the third and he said the bottomless mimosas were only for Sundays. Yet the sign was out on a TUESDAY. they should have taken it down, OR TOLD ME WHEN I ASKED FOR THE BOTTOMLESS DRINKS. Not AFTER. Was charged regular price for the damn drinks.

Pros: Great food

Cons: Poor customer service

1 of my top 2 meals in NYC

I absolutely loved Spicy Moon! We got crab Rangoons which were my least favourite thing but still nice, but the spicy dumpings, Dan Dan noodles with vegan beef and the general Tsao’s chicken were all unbelievably delicious. The chicken was soooooo crispy and the noodles had the nicest creamy sauce. The vibes were also fantastic, they played pop music and served Kylie rosè…. So I was in heaven!

Pros: All vegan , General Tsao’s chicken , Great vibes

Dan Dan noodles

You should order Dan Dan noodles. I ordered Dan Dan, mushroom bao, and a bun. The bun and bao were nothing special. The Dan Dan was the best.

Service was lacking at this branch. I walked in and stood there a few minutes waiting to be seated. After seeing someone but her refuses to come greet me, I walked to her and asked for a seat in which I was told to sit anywhere. Once I ordered, I asked for water and didn’t receive it until after my food arrived and another server asked if I wanted water.

Overall, I would come here for the Dan Dan but maybe visit another branch.

Tasty dumplings and noodles

All vegan Sichuan food that doesn’t hold back in flavor or spice! So delicious, I can’t wait to come back! Plenty of searing at 1pm on a Tuesday. Awesome lunch specials too.

Pros: Spicy food that was actually spicy!, All vegan.

Crowd pleaser

It’s been awhile since I’ve been to Spicy Moon, and this is my first time at this location. I was sad to see they no longer have turnip cakes, one of my favorite dim sum dishes, and hard to find a good vegan version of. I got the garlicky greens with mock duck and the cumin tofu, both spice level 9 (they start at 1 and go by odd numbers up to 9) I do not have the spice-o-meter of a normal person, but I would give it a ~3/5 on my personal spiciness scale. I thought the garlicky greens were a bit oily and could have had more duck, but they weren’t bad. The cumin tofu was my favorite, and I’ll definitely order it again!

Obsessed as always

You really can’t go wrong here. I love the Dan Dan noodles, but I’m also a fan of the cumin tofu. Just note that it’s heavy on the cumin.

Cute place!

Really cute place with some delicious dishes. We loved the spring rolls, scallion pancakes and garlic sauce “big bite” we had. Both bao buns we had were a bit bland/dry, so would not recommend those. Service was amazing and quick!

Pros: Great service, Cute place

Delicious - Must Try!

Having had an okay existence erience at another location we ventured to try again and the Chelsea spot didn’t disappoint. We ordered the King Pau Tofu (had fried tofu mushrooms), the a spicy Tofu Buns ($5 each and served w/ a spicy sauce for dipping), and the Dan Dan Noodles (gluten free and have a kick) - all delicious. $52 USD prior to tip.

One of the best for vegan Asian in NYC

If you are looking for vegan Chinese, you have to checkout @spicymoonnyc!

We visited the new Chelsea location when we were in NYC. Here is what we ordered:
-Crispy Eggplant: Was so good, perfectly cooked, tender with a light and super crispy on the outside. Spicy mayo was incredible!
-Fried Dumplings: Wrappers are a bit on the thick side, but were delicious!
-Dan Dan Noodles with Vegan Beef add on: We were told it was naturally spicy, so we didn't specify a spice level. It was my favorite dish and really delicious, but we did end up asking for spicy chili oil to add more heat. So if you like it spicy, recommend specifying a spice level (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) or ask for a side of chili oil.
- Dry Pot Style: Was impressive coming in over a flame. Dish was delicious! Only complaint is the potato was slightly undercooked. I ate it right as it came out so not sure if you are to wait or let it cook out over the fire.

I cook and eat a lot of asian food, so I may be a harsher critic here. Overall, a really solid 4 of 5 being one of the best Asian vegan restaurants in NYC! And I prefer it to other Asian restaurants we have tried in NYC, where I have rated them a solid 3.

Excellent food!

The food here is absolutely amazing and the vibes are really nice. I tried the char siu ahd hen of the woods baos and the dan dan noodles with added vegan beef. The service was good to start but then we got passed on to another waitress who didn’t seem to understand the job.

We love Spicy Moon!

My wife and I love Spicy Moon! This is one of our favorite restaurants of all time, anywhere in the world, and we take friends there whenever we can, vegan, vegetarian or not, and everyone is always blown away. The food is truly excellent: perfectly balanced, perfectly spiced, and their service is usually excellent, even when it's a little crowded. Some of my favorite dishes are the Dry Pepper Style Tofu (or with tofu and veggies), the Dan Dan Noodles with Vegan Beef, Mapo Tofu, the String Beans, the Pea Leaves with Garlic, and the Chopped Cheese Spring Rolls (I know, weird right? But absolutely addictive and decadent). The prices of a couple of the dishes are a bit one the high side (the General Tso's Style dish particular), but once you try the food, you pretty much forgive that. All in all, if you're looking fora. truly spectacular vegan mean in NYC, this is the place to go.

Pros: Excellent food, perfectly seasoned, Nice atmosphere, not too noisy, Friendly service

Cons: A few dishes are a little pricy

Spicy hot 🌶️ 🥢

This is the fourth branch of this NYC-based all-vegan Chinese food venue. The setting in this branch is very pleasant, somewhat more relaxed than their other branches.

I am not a fan of spicy food, so I asked for their non-spicy dishes, so I got a Kung Pao and spring rolls. The Kung Pao, though listed as non-spicy, seemed plenty spicy to me (I pushed aside the peppers, onions, and jalapenos). I liked my dish, though I assume those who like spicy food would want to give this an extra star.
