Tasty sojchicken, not so much vegetables - Edit
We had the soychicken, that was really worth it, and the ginger meat. We both graved for more vegetables, instead of rice, so more vegetables would have been nice. But in every case it was tasty and the atmosphere talkative.
Read moreVery nice place to eat and get to communicate with the owner (preferable in japanese).
Very good prices! We payed only around Y2.100 for 2 meals and 2 apple juices.

Cool concept, great cheap food - Edit
Everything is in Esperanto, Japanese and English so you don't have to speak Esperanto to go here. The rice bowls are made with a very good soy meat and seasoned well. You also get free miso soup with your food. A complete, filling meal is only ¥800, which makes for an incredible price-quality ratio. I will probably visit again.

BEST VEGAN PLACE IN TOKYO - Edit
SOJO is by far the best vegan place I’ve visited in Tokyo. The owner is super friendly and the atmosphere is cozy and charming. There’s a wall of vegan merch that you can buy with rewards points from your visit. It’s obvious the owner is vegan for the animals and it’s so refreshing to see that in a restaurant. I ordered the daily special and a banana ice cream, and the owner cooked them fresh to order. Everything was cheap and the portions were so big I actually needed a to-go box.

Edit: SOJO ESPERANTO IS STILL THE BEST VEGAN RESTAURANT IN TOKYO
Came back here a year later on my second trip to Japan and the food is even better. I got the curry this time and it was delicious. The prices are super cheap and maybe the most affordable I’ve come across. Go here if you’re in Tokyo!!

Great overall experience - Edit
A cute small cafe with quite a lot of food options. The food was good (definitely try the homemade donuts if you get the chance!) but the cozy atmosphere and the very nice owner makes this place absolutely worth it.
Read moreThere is vegan merch all around you that you can also buy, which gives this place some very good vibes. The owner is interested, knowledgeable and speaks English very well, so we had a nice time learning about his experience of veganism in Japan. He also has a very useful booklet about vegan/vegetarian restaurants in Tokyo, I wish I had that at the start of my stay!

One of the best meals I had in Japan! - Edit
It's a really cozy small cafe/restaurant run by one man. My boyfriend can speak some esperanto so we talked a lot with the owner, who is really friendly and passionate about veganism and esperanto. The food was delicious, one of the best I had during my holidays in Japan. Overall it was a lovely experience and I wish I had found this place earlier in my trip because I'd definitely come back!

Symbolic of Tokyo vegan food - Edit
It reminded me of Tokyo/Japanese food. Last few years all I’ve tasted and tried, this place summarises it all. From soy meat with fried rice to ramen, mushroom soup, everything was satisfying.

A cosy place with lots of positive activist vibes. The food is very healthy, lots of variety, tasty and inexpensice. The place is ran by one person who put his heart and soul into it and made a wonderful vegan jewel! Would eat there daily.

Owner is very nice - Edit
Small place run by a single person (I think). The food was pretty good but the overall experience was great. The owner is very friendly and I learned a lot about his history and the story behind this cafe. The atmosphere is very relaxed and there's all sorts of trinkets to see. I also learned about esperanto!

this feels like home- big portion size and sO GOOD, too! Freshly made (i nearly burned my mouth on the gyoza so hot they were!) and the owner is really nice too and you can tell he cares about the animals (a lot of vegan restaurants in japan are only “””health”””” orientated which i find so weird)

Even muffins and affogato (vegan style of course ! ).
Pros: Fully vegan , Great menu, lovely atmosphere, nice music too. , Fast efficient friendly service

Tasty all vegan restaurant - Edit
Had my best meal in Tokyo so far today at Sojo Esperanto. I don’t really understand the link between veganism and Esperanto so the theme was a little confusing, but the food was extremely delicious.
Read moreI got the グリーン唐揚げ丼 soy chicken bowl. They had the option to have less rice for a lower cost which was very much appreciated. For dessert, unfortunately the banana ice cream was not available but the affogato was delicious and I’ll be sure to try the ice cream next time.
The atmosphere was calm with nice seating. There was also lots of resources about animal rights in the restaurant. There is a loyalty based point system so you can get items on the wall for free if you are a frequent customer, which is another benefit. The staff also gave me a pamphlet of other vegan restaurants in Tokyo, which is very useful.
I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Pros: Entirely vegan menu, Quick service , Staff knowledgeable about other vegan restaurants
Cons: Missing items on menu

Good food and good prices - Edit
I had a lot of hope for this place, and I think it really lives up to the hype. Visited after a pretty sh*itty week and it totally energized me!
Read moreSince the prices were cheap (I think the curry set was around 800¥?), we ordered lots of food thinking the portions would be small. They're not! Everything is very fresh and well made too -- nothing quite like getting stuffed on healthy food with as much water as my body needs (it's self service, I love that).
Like another user explained below, you even get more food for the price, since with the point campaign I could get a (usually expensive!) People Tree 75% cocoa bar.
Non-veggie friend was impressed. I wish the owner would have tried to talk to us in Esperanto, though!
Pros: Decent portions, Healthy and delicious, Point campaigns
Cons: No Esperanto for me!, It's a small place, feels a bit packed at times

Very reasonable point campaign - Edit
I ordered the menu of the day, which contained a soy hamburg steak, curry, salad, beans, and so on. Tastes good.
The restaurant is operated by the owner himself, and he was quite busy in the dinner time, because there were several guests; that’s why I felt a bit uncomfortable.
Recently they started the new point campaign. If you pay 500 yen, you get 5 points, and you can get vegan snacks, instant noodles, etc. with the earned points. This is really a big bargain. I payed 1200 yen for the menu of yen day and soy latte, and earned 10 points, so exchanged them to nut bars. It’s very reasonable, so I recommend you to visit the restaurant and try this campaign.

Ideal - Edit
In Japan, most vegan restaurants are about idealism. By serving vegan food they want to improve the world by reducing animal suffering, causing less harm to nature and providing healthy food. SOJO Esperanto-Vegana Kafejo adds a completely new dimension to this: uniting all people by speaking the same language. Because SOJO Esperanto-Vegana Kafejo actively promotes the Esperanto language. Don't worry if you don't speak a word of it: the menu is in three languages (Esperanto, Japanese and English). The tables have big "cheat sheets" on them to learn some simple words in Esperanto while you eat. If you're not interested in Esperanto, you can simply ignore it all. The restaurant doesn't force this on the customers in any way.
Read moreWhen we visited, the menu offered two main options: plate of the day or chickpea curry. Also, there are many side dishes. Since we were there with a group, we ordered some of everything. The vegan spring rolls totally differ from what Chinese restaurants serve: at SOJO they have a crunchy outer layer. The dumpling were just fine.
The chickpea curry was rich, tasty, slightly spicy and huge! Never before had I such a large bowl of curry. Hours later I still felt full! The curry came with rice, a small salad and pumpkin soup. All very nice. Considering the low price (800 yen) I think this is excellent value for money. It is this low price that ultimately made me decide to reward SOHO Kafejo with 5 stars.
The plate of the day was even bigger, with a richer salad and some slices of gluten. It had the same rice and pumpkin soup as the curry plate. Again: great value for money.
If you want a big, filling meal for little money, SOJO Esperanto-Vegana Kafejo is the place to go. And they don't only improve the world by being vegan, as an extra bonus they unite the world as well by promoting Esperanto.
Pros: cheap, big portions, good food
Cons: limited menu (at least for lunch)

I love Sojo because it's a cozy place run by a vegan owner/chef. I feel safe and comfortable here unlike other places for money or trend that are run by a non-vegan owner or served by non-vegan stuff. Also, if you like to have a home-style Japanese meal at an affordable price, this is a place. The volume is satisfying. As you know, at other typical Japanese vegetarian/vegan restaurants, portions are so small (!), but at Sojo, you will feel very satisfied and filled at an inexpensive price, and the foods are healthy, nutritious, and delicious. I like the mini library here, too. You can also borrow books. Sojo started selling delicious gluten-free cookies and chocolate, that's another plus!
Pros: Excellent food, good value, friendly owner/chef, Library, 家庭的なお料理
Cons: None
