Great Vegan Food

SOIL had fair pricing and large, filling portions. I had the noodles and my fiancé had the fried rice. We both really enjoyed the noodles. We also ordered ribs for the appetizer and those were fantastic! Service was quick and friendly.

Amazing hearty food

I had the peanut butter and tofu curry - it’s so creamy and indulgent, exactly my kind of food. It’s full of healthy veggies, celeriac and pumpkin, and served with crunchy slaw on top which adds texture.
My husband is still taking about the Vietnamese-style hearty broth he had, with udon noodles, “ribs” and crumbled tofu. He would have exactly the same meal again tonight if I let him, but we’re only in Amsterdam’s couple of days.
Really lovely staff, friendly atmosphere, strongly recommend.

Pros: Huge portion sizes! So great value.

Cons: Huge portion sizes! No room for desert.

Great ribs

I thought the ribs were amazing! They’re made of seitan and jackfruit and taste Devine. I also ordered the ben Ben noodles and they were good but I did not like the meatballs that came with them for whatever reason. Wait staff is nice.

Okay

The bowls are a bit small. The Peanut Butter Curry is okay, we won’t order the Kimchi Fried Rice again. It was a bit bland.

Update more than two years later: don’t go for take out. Have your meal there. Good curry and salad. The noodles could have used a lot more greens and less salt.

And another update: even If you order drinks from the menu, they are not happy to serve you a glass of tapwater.

Updated from previous review on 2023-01-02

Pros: Nice place to have a meal with family or friends.

Sorry that was your impression about the tap Water Omega-3. We do however encourage our guests to order the WATER from MADE BLUE which sends its revenues to promote water projects worldwide in communities that are clear water unsafe.

Disappointing, given frozen bread twice

My partner and I came here for lunch after seeing on Instagram they were doing 50% off for Veganuary. Unfortunately once we got there we were told that offer is only if you book online for dinner, and for the first 6 groups to book.
We couldn't find a menu online before we got there, and when we saw the prices (not cheap!) and realised it wasn't 50% off we decided to just get two starters to share instead. They didn't even have tap water, so we didn't get a drink.
We ordered the aubergine dip which was €9 and the vegan ribs which were €12.

The ribs were fine, however we were shocked that the 'rustic bread' that came with the aubergine dip was still frozen in the centre. I went to the bar to ask if they could heat up the bread roll, and they brought us a new one. However the new one was still cold in the centre!
The actual dip was fine although my partner did not like the taste. Even if the bread had been edible, the bread to dip ratio was way off, hardly any bread for the amount of dip.

At this point we gave up and went to pay. I explained the bread was still frozen to which they apologised and said that it has been really cold so the bread was freezing and they have been trying to defrost it over the stove. She did give me 10% off, although we couldn't even eat the dip so that was a waste of money.

So in the end we paid €18.90 for two starters (instead of €21) with one of the starters being inedible.

Disappointing end to our Amsterdam trip.

Cons: Expensive , Frozen bread

We went twice during our trip to Amstersdam. The food is so incredible! They also had great wine options including an orange wine that was lovely. I highly recommend!!

good food

I ordered the peanut curry bowl, and it tasted really good. Although i‘m more a fan of basmati rice, I still enjoyed this dish. However it is a bit expensive especially if you are a student, but it might also be due to the location it is in. Friendly staff and it was quiet, so I could read in peace😄 #Veganuary

Unique dishes

We mostly chose this place due to its relative proximity to the museum we were visiting, but the peanut curry I had was really tasty. It was nice to see some unique choices of dish on the menu too.

Tasty and filling

Cozy, small, low key restaurant with an informal setting, and a pretty central location. The food is filling and tasty; definitely recommend their Ben Ben noodles and smoked tofu curry. For dinner you might want to book in advance. Even though they accept walk-ins, it might be full.

Perfect!

Everything at SOIL was just perfect. The restaurant is cute, service is good, and every dish has a ton of flavor. The Ben Ben Noodles were super creamy and delicious, definitely my favorite out of the bowls. The ribs appetizer had the perfect balance of sweet and savory. Salmon burger reminded me of vegan lox. Desserts were well made and satisfying, the crust of the cheesy cake had a nice bite to it.

Good vegan comfort food

Soil is a 100% vegan restaurant with vegan comfort food. It’s a nice place and the staff is friendly. There are enough options, but it’s not wild. I had the Kimchi Fried Rice and the Cheesy cake. I also tasted the peanut butter curry, which was good too! The kimchi fried rice was nice and surprising, but for me too little. It was a little bit sad that they didn’t do anything for my birthday, even though I did say so. And it was really cold in the restaurant. I sat with my jacket on, but due to the prices I can understand.
I would go again to Soil, because the food is really good and the cheesecake was amazing.🤤

Flavoursome!

We stopped here for a quick snack, shared a Reuben and honestly is the best I ever had. Perfect balance of flavours and textures, the homemade kimchi is wow and the tempeh so yummy, walnut dark bread a great choice! They nailed it!

Pros: Very well priced, Fresh homemade , Great service, cozy

Original lunch full of flavor

It has been a while since I wanted to try out this place. And I was not disappointed. I came there with my mother (not vegan) and she fully enjoyed her meal (as much as I did!). She went for the Ben ben noodles which where delicious (beware of the level of spiciness) while I went for the umami-rich Miso salad.
We then shared a Cheesy-cake with expresso and Chai latte.
Between warm-bowls, salads and burgers, the menu is quite original.
Only thing which was a bit less to my taste is the fact that the place (although not full at lunch time) was quite noisy. Thanksfully, didn't make the food less enjoyable.

Pros: Original menu, Flavorful dishes

Cons: Ambient noise

Nice, cozy place

We ordered ribs, noodles and craft beer. Noodles were really tasty and the portion was really big! Ribs were a bit dry, but also very tasty. Beer tasted like kombucha, but that was fine.

Great food

I had the kimchi fried rice which was excellent. Mousse for dessert, tiny portion, should have had the cheesecake, bigger portion and very tasty and fresh. I will certainly be back here.

Pros: Lots of dishes on the menu I'd like to try

Cons: Slow service

Nice noodlee

Really enjoyed my Benben noodles, they were quite spicy, enjoyed the creamy sauce they were in. Meatballs were OK, a little bit cold though I thought.

Daughter had a burger, she said it was really tasty, it was one of those that seemed very realistically meat. The yuka chips were pretty special, so crispy and tasty!

Also had a pineapple cheesecake which I enjoyed.

Pros: Nice choice of mains and dessert, Friendly staff
