Due to its inclusive culinary philosophy, I was so willing for this place to impress. Nothing would have pleased me more to be able to report back here that it’s a surefire visit, a must on the vegan landscape of Dubai. Alas, any hope I harboured of being able to soundly extol their virtues readily evaporated nearly as soon as inspected my order.
Read moreFor me to get the clearest picture of the quality of their produce, I acquired the mix platter of twenty-four pastries; a veritable who’s who of their menu options. Upon seeing box itself, I was taken aback by the size - I thought I was in for a feast. Then I opened it. Not only was scale of the container considerably incongruent with its contents, said contents had been splayed across the interior. Not the best of starts. Having pieced certain items back together, I forged ahead sampling each (tiny) morsel. Again, I would dearly love to say that at least one particular creation blew me away, but, unfortunately it wasn’t be. None of them, size issues aside, were inherently bad. The flavours promised by each mouthful were evident, and there was a consistent level of quality running through all that I had. If heavily pressed, I would say that the wild thyme & olive parcels were my preference amongst the selection.
Anywhere that is striving to create food that encompasses so many different ideals does deserve to be recognised, and so it is to this place that acknowledge what they are trying to achieve. However, the final judgement will always be the end product, and all the best will in world doesn’t change the fact that this was an altogether average affair. Yet, despite it not quite reaching the lofty heights I wished for, I would be willing to return to try more of what they offer in hopes of unearthing gold.
