Beautiful restaurant - Edit
Lovely food with varied vegan menu. Great drinks menu too. Friendly staff. Great location - Outside balcony seating has a beautiful view over the Main Street (with heaters and shelter for colder weather and rain). Dogs are allowed in the bar and outdoor area.

Favourite restaurant in Chester - Edit
We have been to Shrub many times and the food is always delicious! The flavours are always spot on. The staff are always so lovely and the venue is gorgeous. The new breakfast options are so good and the waffle on the dessert menu is amazing. Have tried many of the cocktails and they are lovely. We have never had a bad meal here and would recommend it to vegans and non-vegans alike.

Great food, great atmosphere, lovely staff. We sat outside because the weather was nice but inside looked just as beautiful. My husband and I shared mushroom calamari then both Sunday roast, both were excellent (up with the top vegan roasts I've had) portion size was big which sadly meant we had no room for pudding! Could not reccomd this lovely spot enough! Will definitely return if in Chester again.

Only ended up here because the restaurant we were going to was shut, so glad because this place is amazing ! The vibe was so cosy, the food was gorgeous and the staff super friendly. We went with a non vegan who loved it as much as we did 🙏

There is an option for everyone here whether vegan or not. All the food sounded delicious, but we ordered the pardon peppers, tofu tacos and the mushroom calamari to start and the sfs burger and shrub burger for main. I would definitely just get starters to share next time as they were big and filling.

Definitely worth a visit - Edit
This place was great! We ate here on a day trip to Chester. It's comfy yet stylish, all vegan and absolutely delicious. We ordered burgers with cole slaw, the fries were super delicious and we would have had some donuts too if we'd had more time. Definitely recommend this place!

Hot chocolate was alright, too bad they ran out of whipped cream.
Read moreSeitan Katsu came with seaweed which I don't eat anymore, the seitan had a thin crispy batter to it, there was not enough of it! Rice was good and the Katsu sauce was alright, more on the sweet side, 3/5 stars
Sunday roast was great, the broccolini was the star, seitan was great along with the parsnip mash, wanted more of it! 4.5/5 stars
SFS burger was really dry, even though the red cabbage kept dripping juice, the leaf (not the red cabbage) was really dry too, almost waxy.....the buns were crispy on the outside, and it's quite thick compared to the super thin crispy seitan, due to the buns, it made biting into it awkward. Only highlight really was the seitan cutlet and the fries (although too short and bitsy/ stubby) along with the cheese/mayo (?) dip, 2.5/5 stars
Restaurant is lovely, great location, good staff.

I visited this venue last May and wasn't disappointed. I had had the intention of visiting other venues during my long weekend stay in the city, but Shrub was so good that I returned the following day. The menu has so much choice that it makes for a very difficult decision.

We've wanted to visit Shrub for ages and a spontaneous visit to Chester meant we could finally go! Well worth it - the food was amazing and we've definitely got to come back for the 'Shrub Roast' which looked amazing. Great choices; really tasty and the portion sizes were spot on. Every member of staff was friendly and helpful too and we've already started planning our next trip.
