Always a line, but delicious - Edit
This is one of my favorite vegan restaurants in the bay, but it’s hard to get in and I don’t really enjoy the pressure to move along so quickly if I’m trying to enjoy a night out. Nevertheless- the food is amazing and I applaud for the creativity and ambiance. We’ve brought several meat eating friends here and they enjoyed it.

Shizen - Edit
AMAZING! Words can't even describe how delicious and creative the food is here (except the ramen, don't order that). I would recommend you venture towards the more adventurous sushi options such as the colonels pipe and the surprise ending rather than the basic sushi options. The wait is worth it here, I promise!

Game Changer - Edit
Updating my original post -- it's as good as ever! A must for vegans visiting SF. This is my favorite place in San Francisco. Don't bother with the regular sushi menu (which is fine), go straight to the specialty rolls which are amazing. My favorites are the Open Invitation, Body and Soul and the Scarlet Smile. I also love the Goma Ae (boiled spinach) and the croquettes. The food is sublime! The decor is also beautiful and the wait staff is friendly and efficient, though it does get crowded so sometimes you need a little patience. But just sip on some lovely sake and chill! It's worth it.

Really Good! - Edit
I went here for my 25th birthday with family (two of which were non-vegans) and everyone really enjoyed what we got! We shared two specialty roles (prime suspect and candlelight) and the mild ramen. Also got the Brussels sprouts which were reaallly yummy. The tofu in the ramen was a bit too smoky and the broth had a light flavor, but overall was good.

Flavor & Sight Explosion - Edit
Beautifully executed vegan sushi that is a feast for the eyes! Get in line before it opens to get a seat. There is a line down the block before it opens. It’s that good!!! We were a party of seven and just sampled 8 different rolls and the gyoza. All were exceptional! We didn’t even make it halfway through the menu!

Unfortunate - Edit
I first want to mention this is not about the food, but about the service. I went in to see about a take-out order 30 mins before their advertised closing time. I waited at the host stand until she came, but was not greeted.
Read moreI stood there as she helped two other people that came after me, it was getting awkward. I finally interjected and asked to be helped. But she told me her concern was only with the people she had to seat already. It was an unfortunate experience as a potential customer. I hope this feedback can offer some suggestions from management of fair and kind service to ALL those who walk in the door.

Incredible vegan sushi - Edit
Gyoza was a great starter. Loved the Boddy and Soul sushi roll. Amazing dessert which included chocolate brownie topped with matcha ice cream, warm tempura bananas and chocolate dipped strawberry. Opens at 5pm. Get there early to get a table. After we ate there was a 2.5 hour wait.

Amazing!!! - Edit
Shizen is an amazing restaurant. It’s tough to get a reservation and the waiting list is long on Yelp. But as long as you give yourself at least an hour or two on the Yelp waiting list it’s all good. Menu is entirely vegan. The restaurant was completely full. Cool vibe. Food is incredible. We got the croquettes, the vegetable tempura, and 3 specialty rolls. All were delicious and memorable. Even my non-vegan wife was blown away!

Best food I have had in my entire life - Edit
As the title says, best food I’ve had my entire life. This includes foods prior to going vegan. The flavors are incredible and indescribable. The depth of flavor they create blew me away. And you’d think the prices would be ridiculous but it was completely affordable! Would return a million times and still want to go back. 11/10 stars.

Best Sushi Ever - Edit
This is by far the best sushi experience you will have. Not only is it 100% plant based, but the menu is not basic avo+cucumber sushi you get at other restaurants. So creative! The presentation is done beautifully. The inside is small and can become noisy. Wait is usually at least an hour, unless you reserve much in advance. Pricey, but worth it.

So delicious! - Edit
Just had an amazing meal at Shizen. The service was great. They even were able to accommodate and use soy paper for our rolls instead of seaweed (which I find too oceanic tasting). Yay! Our favorite dishes wound up being the brussels sprouts, Open Invitation roll, Hidden Agenda roll & the Boddy (sic) and Soul roll - but everything we ordered was really good [one sole exception was the warm brownie which was meh]. I so wish they’d open a location in Los Angeles! Come to L.A. please!

OMG...blown away! A MUST for any sushi lover! - Edit
If you are a sushi lover, you will be seriously blown away. I have been eating sushi for as long as I can remember before I was vegan and growing up in Hawaii. I found this place and now am completely wowed by the sushi they create here. The best seriously. Total sushi bar and restaurant atmosphere and all vegan! We tried so many things we had to roll out of there. Make a reservation a week in advance. If you are walk in, the wait can be up to 2 hours so plan well. If you walk in get there when they open as there will still be a wait.

SUSHI FOR ALL - Edit
finally, sushi for vegans. this place is so good. the rolls are good (pick differently prepared types so you don't end up with four fried ones - pick one fresh, one fried, one saucy, etc. the brussel sprouts are good too all the different sushi like the tomato "tuna." don't get in line - get on the virtual wait list and walk around until its time to eat.

Location was good as within walking distance of accommodation not to mention close to the centre also

We both had gyoza, then differing ramen with a side of sushi.
All was exquisite

Must Visit While In SF - Edit
While most sushi places have a few vegan options, it is such a treat to go to an all vegan sushi place. Shizen is definitely worth a visit, just make sure to use their Yelp powered waitlist feature through their website to get in line before going because there will be a wait!
Read moreI'm not sure exactly what all we ordered, but I think we had a Brussels sprouts starter, the Philadelphia roll.,the Secret Weapon, and something with tempura...I think the Boddy and Soul. It was really hard to pick from the lengthy menu. Everything was tasty.
The drinks were good, but nothing special. We were seated at the sushi counter, and would have preferred a table for ambiance, but it was not a big deal.
Pros: All vegan menu with creative rolls
Cons: Very busy
