Super duper yummy - Edit
This place was amazing and everything we ordered was delicious, especially the gyoza and the "open invitation" specialty sushi roll. The rolls are inventive, complex, and totally worth it. They were able to seat us for dinner on a Saturday night without a reservation, but I thought the server was kind of rude.

Worth a top rating - Edit
Well, I‘ve been to a bunch of vegan sushi places in different cities by now and this one is definitely worth a mention too. They have succeeded in creating amazing original sushi tastes with plant based products. The sushi was fresh and you could taste the different ingredients in each bite. Staff was lovely!

Culinary Marvel: Shizen’s Exceptional Vegan Sushi - Edit
Shizen is a true gem in the world of sushi. As recommended in the Michelin Guide, it lives up to the hype. The fact that everything is vegan and yet the presentation and flavors are extraordinary is a testament to their culinary expertise. The staff is exceptionally friendly, and each dish is a journey through a variety of delightful flavors. The dining experience is simply delightful, and the restaurant’s ambiance is equally stunning.

Outstanding! - Edit
First of all, vegan and izakaya are rarely words you see together in my experience. As all you vegans know, going to a vegan restaurant is just so much better and easier. The food was excellent - took us back to the flavors of living in Japan. We had miso soup, gyoza, tempura, inari and yuba nigiri, and a California roll. It was all excellent. Maybe the tempura batter could have been lighter. They also have a very good list of sake (I had the Kubota - amazing) and the Shizen lemonade was also very good. Loved it!

Creative rolls and decent sake list - Edit
The rolls were quite good and we enjoyed the creative take on them, taking sweet, spicy and savory ingredients and putting them all together to create a taste explosion in your mouth.
Read moreWe also ordered the cold ramen dish which is more like a salad but other than the yummy shredded tofu on top, it was kinda boring in flavor. So I'd probably stick to the rolls.
Pros: Creativity
Cons: Pricey

great specialty rolls, everything else is okay - Edit
my friend asked the waitress if she recommends the california roll or the gyoza more and she said neither. she said there are plenty of other things on the menu worth trying. the boddy and soul roll was amaaaaazing!! the california roll, tomato nigiri, and avocado nigiri were all just okay and i personally wouldn’t order them again and almost didn’t finish them

One of the best vegan sushi places 👌🏻 - Edit
Beautiful cozy place with very unique and flavorful sushi creations. I had two special rolls (boddy and soul, surprise ending) and a miso soup (could have been a bit more flavorful but it was ok) all in all a must visit 💚

My Top Choice in SF - Edit
The best place to go out for a date in San Francisco. Service, ambience, and food are all top notch. My personal favorites are the spicy garlic miso ramen, the crispy brussels sprouts, seasonal futomaki, and anything on their special roll list.

creative vegan sushi - Edit
I first went to Shizen years ago yet went here with my beloved recently. We are so glad we went here. We booked our reservation a week out and dined here on a Wed evening. It was fully packed.
Read moreWe split a spicy miso garlic ramen that was amazing with a rich broth and very flavorful with a good amount of heat.
We shared three speciality rolls including colonel's pipe, secret weapon, and body and soul.
All were amazing yet our favorite was the body and soul roll. The secret weapon was the roll with the most heat.
The body and soul roll is made with tempura. We think next time we will order a noodle dish and two speciality rolls made with tempura as these are well done with good flavor.
Service was on point and we will make it a point to go here at least once a month.
Shizen might be our favorite vegan restaurant and favorite restaurant period in San Francisco.
Pros: great vegan sushi, creative and innovative menu
Cons: a bit costly

Best sushi in the city - Edit
One of my favorite spots in San Francisco. I've been eating here since day one and it never disappoints. It's a small space so reservations are imperative. Great flavors with the specialty rolls and they continue to build with new and creative additions. Great spot for date night too as it's very intimate. Love guys keep up the great work!

Get the "boddy and soul" roll! - Edit
The "boddy and soul" roll is delicious and was by far the best. I also liked "Prime Suspect". I didn't enjoy Foxy Scarlet and Secret Weapon, they didn't have as much flavor. A lot of the rolls were far too similar to each other. The gyoza and ceviche were good, just so bland. The yakisoba wasn't the best. Still, as far as rolls go, this is the most creative fully vegan sushi restaurant that I've found in Northern California which is probably why it's hard to get a table (reservations are definitely needed). Also I wish they had a dessert option.
