Temple stay as expected - nothing more, nothing less - Edit
Before I sound too negative, I should say that we enjoyed our one-night temple stay very much. It was a good experience that I would recommend, mostly due to the area and the morning prayer/ceremony. The location is really good. That said, this stay basically perfectly matched my expectations of what a temple stay would be like in terms of comfort (not very comfortable beds), food (not that interesting, but fine) and language (they seemed to have one in-house English speaking person, but otherwise we couldn't really communicate with the monks/staff). The only reason I was a bit disappointed was due to the 2 very positive reviews on HappyCow, particularly regarding the food. In my opinion, cold boiled vegetables does not count as delicious food. It was entirely edible, just not anything special. We weren't informed about any bicycles (as another review mentioned) and unless I seriously missed something, the onsen mentioned by another reviewer was the bathtub in the bathroom (if you have a room with a private bathroom at least). On the plus side, the WiFi worked fine for me (not for my partner though) and I didn't even notice the smoking room until we left.

Great stay - Edit
We stayed 2 nights in Sekishoin and had a great experience there. The temple food was delicious, the dinner especially. The local sesame tofu was nothing short of incredible.
Read moreWe opted for an accommodation with private bathroom, which was a little dated but comfortable and offered an amazing view on the Japanese garden. The Onsen was great too.
The temple is beautiful, the monks very welcoming. The morning prayer & fire ritual we’re fantastic experiences. The location is unbeatable, being a few minutes walk from the cemetery.
On a negative note, the WiFi wasn’t working properly. I also wish that the smoking room wasn’t in the entrance of the temple.

Amazing stay, unique experience - Edit
Staying one night at this temple in Koyasan is definetely recommended, not only is the food completely vegan, staff speaks English as well and is very kind and welcoming. We loved the free rental bikes that were provided, and the famous Okuno-in cemetry is a just few minutes in walking distance. The morning prayer session was a unique experience, the rooms were big with garden view and private bathroom. It was very cold in March, but futon, hot bath and heater made the room very cozy at night. All in all, our stay here was unforgettable.
