Sehr gute Auswahl an kalten und warmen veganen Speisen am Büffet, dazu noch Suppe und Kuchen. Ein tolles Konzept. Jeder nimmt sich das, was er möchte, vom Büffet, abgerechnet wird nach Tellergrösse.

There was an huge buffet selection of all vegan food, both hot and cold things. You can either have a plate to eat in or a take away box. Both my partner and I stuffed our boxes full and were really happy with the taste and quality. The lemon cake was so good I bought another slice to take home with me. Not the cheapest place but really good value for money.

This is currently the only vegan restaurant in central Essen. It is clean and has a lovely outside seating area. There was a large selection of hot and cold food that all looked and tasted delicious. I would definitely recommend going there.

What I like best about the concept of Sattgrün is, that it constantly offers a wide and changing choice. Who wants to be offered the same menu over and over? High quality dishes are being nicely being presented in a self-service buffet. Great choice, friendly service. Good Location.

I loved this place, the food is fresh and delicious and it is just a pleasant and perfect option. You can just go for a large bowl of soup with bread and it is really reasonably priced. The plates are priced by size but for the range and taste of the food I think it is worth it. We went twice in Germany and I really wish we had one in London!

Read moreA minor quibble; at two different locations, I've found at least half of the cakes dense and heavy--- more like a so-so homemade cake than a restaurant-quality dessert. At those prices, the cakes should be better.
Still, I'd be happy to eat there every day for a week or more.

I just came here for a coffee and cake and was pleased to find an all-vegan place in Essen city centre. The cake I chose (Zupfkuchen, some vanilla custard cake with chocolate crumbles on top) was extremely sweet and way too large for me to finish. The espresso was okay but not great.
Read moreI cannot say anything about the quality of the hearty food, but when you go here, be aware that you don't choose a meal and get it prepared but that they have something like a salad buffet where you choose what you want from pre-prepared foods. And the prices are not particularly cheap either. Also, the interior of the place is very clean and cold, the opposite of cozy for me. This feels like a franchise or chain restaurant to me.
Still, as an all-vegan place in the city centre this is obviously a good place to check out for vegans. They also have a nice outside seating area.

Very tasty options for the three possible plate sizes. Take away also possible at 1 € discount per portion, but seats in front of the restaurant invited for some time in the sun. Definitely worth visiting!

Cheap prices for what you get. Big plates or small ones it's your choise. Nice drinks, very nice tasty alcohol free beer, nice cakes, nice coffee's. If I could it was 11/10 points! Perfect for us vegans and even perfect to all kinds of people. Especially very perfect for inviting people trying a first time veganfood. I wish there is a +1000 Sattgruen where we live! lol
IT WAS A PERFECT VEGANDINNER! First time we feels a little sad going back home that evening! lol

Sattgruen is in the heart of Essen. We were there to visit the theatre and the Christmas market, and were looking for some quick food.

We choose Sattgruen to see what it would be like.
You can choose three different plate sizes (small, medium, large) and there are two counters with food you can choose from. The first counter contains the 'salads', or rather, anything not warm/hot, because there is a lot more than just salads to choose from!
The second one is the warm/hot dishes. Pasta, rice, beans, tofu, cauliflower, you name it, it's there.
It's not expensive, and you have a lot of choice (which, for a vegan is not often the case).
I liked it very much, and my non-vegan boyfriend enjoyed his meal as well!

Read moreFor dessert we had some walnut-carrot cake, which was like the best cake I've ever had! Fluffy, a bit crunchy and not too sweet!
The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is nice, very light and modern.
Unfortunately I'm living a bit too far away from Essen to go there more often, but I can recommend this place 100 % and I will definitely come back!

Read moreThe space is very open in the front of the restaurant with high ceilings, huge windows and large wooden tables. There are a couple more places in teh back were you get more of a cosy and darkish feel. You can even sit outside if you like since its located towards an open space - like a mikro park - a green eye in Essens rather grey inner city.
I tried some of everything that looked appealing to me. So I had my platter full of little bits and nibbles, which was a good way to try myself through the menu. There was only one thing that wasn't to my taste, but the rest was all like "gimme more of that".
I also had a huge piece of chocolate cherry cake as a desert and apart from filling me up after my satisfying dinner it was really good. Fluffy, moist, chocolatey, sweet yummyness.
A big yes to Sattgrün (> lush green, while satt also means full)
