Delicious Southeast Asian food, loved their Pandan Coco Mungbean drink

Visited Saigon Lotus on a recent trip to Toronto. The restaurant is easy to find, near Chinatown and Kensington market.

They had lovely southeast Asian food, a fusion of Chinese, Western, Thai, Vietnamese and Korean food.

We ordered steamed rice sheet rolls with wild mushrooms (a dish we call cheung fan back home). Really loved their unique spin on wild mushrooms and the sauce used.

We wanted to try so many dishes, and we found the perfect way to do that by ordering Combo 2 (green curry tofu, lemongrass tofu-setian and grilled eggplant). It also came with kimchi and soup. A few dishes can be spicy. Better speak to the staff to let them know your preference beforehand.

Finally, my favourite part. The drink. I had never heard of a Pandan Coco Mungbean drink. And I was wondering why it took so much time to come to our table. But it was worth the wait. An aromatic blend of coconut and pandan crushed with ice and not too sweet. Perfect for a hot summer day.

Pros: Delicious food , Friendly staff, Variety of options

Cons: Relatively smaller portions

Saigon Lotus

We came here on a last minute change of plans for vegan eateries. Our Lyft driver dropped us off at another vegan place, but the atmosphere there was really loud and had a feeling of exclusivity, so we ended up at Saigon Lotus instead. We are glad we did! Their food is amazing with HUGE portions & very affordable! My husband accidentally ordered a soup that was way too spicy for him and they were very accommodating to replace it with something else.

Pros: Within walking distance of where we were staying, Huge portions!, All vegan! GF options available upon asking.

Cons: Some items are very spicy (ok for some but not me)

Delicious food

As good as the original, non-Vegan dishes, per my lunch partner, the food was absolutely delicious and plentiful. I would definitely go back!

Best Vietnamese in T.O.?

I'm not sure how this place never got a review from me. I've been mildly addicted for a few years. There's so many options on well priced Bahn mi including meats, lemongrass tofu, fish - they are all good.

Surprisingly, the thing that got me coming back so many times was the golden curry soup. I'm not a soup person but one cold day I ordered it. I fell in love and have ordered it many times. It's got pumpkin, bread fruit, basil, taro, plantain... it's just so good.

4 stars and not 5 because of all the times I've had to wait. I wait a lot here, I've seen other people wait a lot. Some people walk out. Don't order the Pandam Coco Mungbean in particular because you'll have to wait 20 min, even if you don't order anything else. (It's very good though!)

Pros: Everything I've had on the menu rocks, fresh tasting, variety

Cons: Wait times for takeout

Some good food here

I've been here twice and found the food good, but not as great as people rave about. Both times I went with non-vegans and they were more impressed than I was. Maybe it was simply the items I ordered that were a miss.

Their spring rolls may be the best I've ever had though.

I have to say though, having to scan a QR code for the menu was annoying, especially when going with older people.

Still, a lot of dishes I would like to try if I ever do go back.

Scanning a QR code is optional; they have a big physical menu with lots of laminated pages now-we went on 17 June 2025.

Can’t go wrong with Viet food

Never disappoints, so many options, my favourites are their #11 Steamed Rice Rolls w/ Fresh Wild Mushrooms and their #33 Crispy Vegan Egg Noodle, all to die for, so many menu items I haven’t even had, yet being there over 10 times

Pros: The sky painted on the ceiling, beautiful clouds, Great atmosphere , So much to choose from

Delicious and great value !

This place is on Billy Eilish’s vegan restaurant list and I can see why!! So good! Great value for money too! The lemongrass pad Thai with bbq “meat” was amazing. And my friend loved the lemongrass tofu seitan bowl. They were similar but both delicious !

Excellent flavours and value

Saigon Lotus was recommended to us by a Toronto local and we were pleased to find the time to make it for a late lunch. The menu is extensive (maybe too extensive!), the flavours are excellent, and the portion sizes are excellent value. Definitely recommend to anyone in the area. Our favourites were the Yam Tempura Salad Roll and the BBQ Vegan Meat (available on many dishes, I had the vermicelli bowl).

Pros: Value , Flavours

Good portions

I tried this place accidentally since we were nearby!! The place was packed and popular which is usually a sign of a good place!

The vibe is nice and the decorations are lovely too! My and my partner ordered some spring rolls and golden curry! And it was enough for two people to be full and happy!

The price we spend for both was super low and the food was delicious!! Highly recommend if craving some Vietnamese or Thai cuisines!

Pros: Nice vibe , Delicious food , Great portions

Cons: Not much choice

Acceptably Good; NOT Great

Vermicelli & Mixed Vegetables was the better of the two dishes, the other being the Spciy Lemongrass Tofu Avocado Summer Roll. Neither one was sensational, just sufficiently tasty and satisfying without being too filling. Otherwise, nothing to write home about and barely worth a mention on here, but what the heck.

P.S. Signs about social distancing and server wearing a face mask were a real turn-off.

Pros: Tasty and satisfying, Fairly quick preparation

Cons: Cheap and cheesy decor, Lose the social-distancing signs and face mask

You might want to extend some grace to the server. She may be immunocompromised or lives with someone who is and can't risk the possibility of getting Covid. Yes, Covid is still around and killing 500+ people per week in the U.S. according to the CDC. If you were offended, you had the option of leaving prior to ordering.

Saigon Lotus

A calm oasis away from the bustle of Kensington.
For my first time eating Vietnamese food, it was a delicious, healthy meal of texture and flavour.
I ordered the combo, which came with rice, kimchi, a bowl of tasty soup broth, and three tofu and seitan dishes, each so different from the other, but equally fantastic.
I will be back again to try more another day....bahn mi is on the list.

Pros: Nice people, fast service, Fabulous food, Lovely atmosphere

So good I returned

First visit here I had the lemongrass tofu-seitan banh mi and the bun bo hue. Both delicious. I think they make their own baguettes here and it makes all the difference. I wouldn't get the house iced tea, very sweet. Service was swift and friendly.

I was starving after going to the art gallery of Ontario, so instead of making my way to fat choi I came back to Saigon Lotus which was nearby. Again went for a banh mi 'starter', this time the bbq meat. Not sure how they do the meat but it had the correct texture. Also went for combo platter 2. Green curry, lemongrass tofu, a baked aubergine, a light veg soup and brown rice with kimchi. Hard to fault anything.

Wasn’t too fond of this place

Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this place. I got there about 30 minutes before closing so maybe that had something to do with it. My bun Bo hue just wasn’t good in my opinion. Maybe I have high Vietnamese standards but it was way too oily.

Go to restaurant

This place is amazing. Great good, great portion size, very good value. There are also some reasonably healthy options. The pho (number 19) can have added vegetables to boost nutrition. The desserts are amazing as well.

A must try

Hearty, varied, flavorful

We ate here late on a Wednesday, and it was bustling. I can see why! The food was very good. Notably, everything in the combo #2 (soup, grilled eggplant, two tofu dishes, kimchi, rice) had distinctly different flavors. The vermicelli was also very good and distinct from everything else.

Portions are very generous.

Food came out not very hot. I'm not sure if that's intentional.

Relaxed Atmosphere + Good Food!

Saigon Lotus stands out as a gem, offering an expansive vegan menu in a uniquely relaxing atmosphere. My excitement started with the discovery of a vegan version of Thai Iced Tea—a triumph after seven years of veganism. While a bit more vegan condensed milk would have been perfect, the tea was still a delicious treat.

Opting for the combo to experience a bit of everything, Combo 1 featured: Sweet & Sour Crispy Tofu, BBQ Vegan Meat, Caramel Tofu-Seitan, White Rice, Bok Choy, and Soup. The combination was both satisfying and showcased a harmonious blend of flavors and textures.

The standout was the Sweet & Sour Crispy Tofu, surprising my taste buds with its burst of flavors. Caramel Tofu-Seitan followed, embellished with grill marks and topped with shredded mango—an inventive touch that elevated the dish.

The soup, though a bit heavy on onions and salt, remained tasty. While the BBQ Vegan Meat boasted decent flavors, its chewy texture landed it at the bottom of my list. Perfectly cooked rice and a side of bok choy rounded off the meal.

Saigon Lotus pleasantly surprised me with its reasonably priced offerings, adding to the overall positive experience. I highly recommend exploring this for a fun and tasty vegan meal.

Some of the Best Food in Kensington Market

I often go here with some of my close friends when we're in Kensington market. There's a great variety of dishes on the menu, so picky eaters are likely to find something. I absolutely love their pho.

Pros: Big portions, Beautiful interior
