Great food, ambience and service! - Edit
A lovely, fully vegan restaurant with great atmosphere and menu! The staff here were extremely friendly and welcoming! The best service we have received in Japan so far! We ordered the homemade croquette, onmen soup noodle and the vegan eel rice bowl. All were incredibly delicious! We especially loved the eel bowl with the impressive smoke that comes out of the box once you pop the lid open! Highly recommend coming to Saido!

Amazing experience - Edit
Everything was perfect! Go to this restaurant! Amazing food and owners! We walked though a small alley garden to get to the venue, which set a great mood. When we sat down the hosts served us taster glasses of plum sake, which was delicious. They were so friendly and the server knew English quite well. They gave us time to settle in and then quickly took our order. After they took our order they brought out some appetizers. Every dish seems to have had real care put into the creation of the recipe. This was traditional Japanese food, created vegan. we ordered very typical western orders (ramen and soba) because we couldn't resist. They were both delicious. The 'vegan egg' was strange and very good. The food was clearly created by a specialist chef who understands cooking and ingredients. The food was all delicious. There were complex flavours and creativity in every dish. It all came in generous portions. Everything was 100% vegan. I have eaten at many vegan restaurants. This was the best I've ever been to. Don't miss out! You need to go before they move locations and start charging 3 times more, because this restaurant is underated. We even left with some vegan instant ramen they make. 11/10.

Warm atmosphere, beautiful food - Edit
I brought my non-veg partner here after reading about it on HappyCow. What a wonderful place - the staff was warm and inviting, as was the space - surrounded on the outside by plants and full of quiet chatter and yummy smells. We had the bbq chicken, katsu, dipping noodles and a few extra snacks and dessert. All wonderfully delicious. I can’t pick a favourite because I loved them all.

Delicious Food, Gracious Service - Edit
Reserved ahead of time and truly enjoyed the small, intimate setting. The food was inventive and plentiful. The dipping noodles were incredibly flavorful and the tempura was light and delicious. Above all else, the staff were personable, spoke great English, and were generous with offering suggestions about how best to navigate the menu. Wonderful all around.

Traditional Japanese cuisine veganized - Edit
Large variety of appetizers, from bamboo sprouts to vegan yakitori and tempura. Selection of noodle and rice dishes with various options, like vegan eel. Best green tea I have ever had in my life! Tasty certified vegan sake (we got a free tasting)! Great service, we even got to taste a new dish, which is a form of bite-sized sushi which will be available from 2020! A reason to come back to Japan! Maybe you'll find it in the images.

Saido is a must if you’re in Tokyo. It’s in a gorgeous spot in Jiyugaoka, with incredibly friendly, helpful staff. The food is delicious, with a thoughtfully put together lunch set menu. We had the katsuju, which had flavour-packed seitan katsu and delicious home made katsu sauce on rice. The miso soup was insanely tasty. The desserts are also really yummy! Highly recommend :).

A five star dining experience! - Edit
This is a beautiful restaurant with REALLY lovely, friendly and hospitable staff. The food was next level amazing. The eel was crispy, salty and a bit sweet and very on point. The yakitori so good we ordered a second round at the end. It was amazingly smoky. It was moist and very flavourful. The karaage was the most tender we've had in Japan (we've had a few). The fried oysters were also amazing and the restaurant owner taught us how they're eaten. The plum sake is also lovely. The katsu was so crispy and the flavour was my favourite and soaked through the cutlets. We felt like we were in a Michelin star restaurant without the price tag. Thank you so much!!! We hope to come again!

Absolutely delicious food! Every single meal was amazing and the service was excellent: the staff members were very friendly and overall superb! The venue had a calming ambience, and the garden leading to the restaurant was beautiful. We came here with a family of 5 and all members, both vegetarians and meat-eaters, enjoyed the variety of vegan meals on offer. The restaurant was very generous, today was the birthday of one of our members and we were given a wonderful surprise! Thank you!!! We definitely would like to come back if we visit Japan again.

Great dining experience - Edit
Finally got to try this No.1 vegan restaurant on Happy Cow! And it didn’t disappoint.
Read moreThe dishes were so special and unique that we kept anticipating the next one, wondering how it would taste.
We ordered:
-Karaage chicken with vegetable sauce
-Yakitori
-Katsu-ju
-Una-ju
-Blueberry cheesecake
Our favourite was the karaage chicken. Different from those found in other places, their karaage chicken was braised and was really moist. The texture was so real!!!
Another must-try here is their signature Una-ju (eel rice). We loved the smoky flavour of it~there was literally smoke coming out from the box when we opened the lid. It tasted so real that at some point we thought we were eating real eel. We asked the staff what it was made of but she said it was a secret ;)
It was a nice restaurant and was definitely the highlight of our trip.

English below👇

Happy Cow recently released a list of the ten best vegan restaurants in the world, as determined by the app’s users. We were pretty surprised that one of them, Saidō, was in Tokyo! Jiyūgaoka, to be exact.
So of course we had to check it out for ourselves. Could it really be that good?
Yes. Yes, it could.
I don’t want to say too much because this is a place you should really experience for yourself. Just know that the atmosphere, the service, and most importantly, the food, are all superb. We truly enjoyed every bite of our food, and we can’t wait to go back.
UPDATE: As of November 11, 2019, Saidō has jumped from seventh to FIRST place in the Happy Cow global rankings!
