Japanese
Non-veg
Serves meat, vegan options available. A Japanese noodle restaurant in Todaiji compound, among the shops/restaurants on the path from Todaiji to Nigatsudo. Offers one vegan soba dish (indicated as vegetarian) which comes with a cup of green tea. There are also a few mushroom soba/udon dishes which do not have meat, but it is unclear if the soup contains fish stock. Reported to be closed on open days, check ahead. Open Mon-Sun 9:00am-4:30pm.

Great ramen - Edit
The deep fried tofu ramen was great. Staff was nice and it was nice to be in a small place sitting eating without all the rush around you.

Nothing special - Edit
I have been over 10 vegans ramens in Japan. That was the most ok (nothing better than that) so far. The old lady is kinda brutal and the ramen is not tasty. If you wanna try something different, that’s is not the place. But I payed 1k yenes for a ramen or 1,4K for a small meal with ramen. The Tofu and forniture are the best things.

Worst Restaurant ever in all japan - Edit
The first time I entered this resto, I was asking if one of my kids doesn't eat is it ok? Since I know we cannot share food in some restaurants.. Guess what happened? They just asked us to go out without a chance for us to say any words, imagine if they give us a chance, we just wanna say ok we order 4 foods.. very worst service restaurant ..
Read moreJust go to the other side of the restaurant, Azekuraya, they also provide a vegan option and the owner is very kind.. we ordered 4 foods there and the taste was very recommended..

More authentic isn't possible - Edit
Small Restaurant in the Nara Park, some different vegetarian/vegan options for a place this small. And the set menus are right cheap, Just 1300 Yen for a full meal with a tea.

Yummy! - Edit
Came across this place in the park and saw the vegan options. I got the set and it was so delicious! I’m not sure why everyone is calling it bland - I did add the chilli and salt too it but it was yummy either way.

Very very very Bad experience - Edit
The owner, an elderly lady, could improve her attitude as it can come across as rude. It's also important to note that the restaurant prefers each person to order their own set or dish instead of sharing. If this rule isn't followed, she will ask you to leave and totally ignore your requests or question. Interestingly, another family I encountered had the same experience and shared me the similar feedback.

Tasty - Edit
I had Kizami-Udon with green tea for lunch and Zenzai for dessert. It was delicious and very filling. The whole meal was quite cheap, too.

Convenient lunch spot in the park - Edit
I had the vegetarian set which is vegan. The broth was quite bland but the tofu on was nice, as well as the tofu on the side with ginger and soy sauce. It was a convenient option while exploring the park. The set cost 1200¥.

Bland but filling - Edit
(Visited 16. April 2023)
Read moreHad the Mix-udon set meal. The borth was really bland tasting. Felt like they replaced non-vegan broth with water and called it a day. Other items on the set were average
Would consider other options.

Easy for tourists - Edit
Most things on the menu can be made vegetarian or vegan. Little to no wait time, if busy you put your name down on the list, we did that and by the time I'd browsed the gift shop next door we were called. Soup lovely and fresh and clean tasting.

Cosy little restaurant with vegan udon - Edit
The place is very cosy, nice located and the veggie udon is very good! You can select from 3 options of vegetarian udon: mix of veggies, fried tofu and egg (obviously the latest not vegan). Good option for lunch.

Amazing meal - Edit
I had one of the two vegan set menu options (the one with mountain vegetables and tofu). There was also a vegetarian one with egg. The food was outstanding. Shop owner didn’t seem to speak much English but I got by with a bit of Japanese and the menu was in English and clear enough. Everything was very tasty and the restaurant was pleasant and quiet and in a less-crowded part of the park. Really wonderful experience all around.

Decent meal in great spot - Edit
Simple and mild tasting broth, decent veggies and noodles. Fried tofu was great.
Read moreHad the set meal for 300, but the tofu was "old tofu" (not a flavour I like), and I was too full for the rice - but the pickled veggies were pretty decent.
Outside is an ice cream machine for like 130 yen - good on a hot day. The melon ice might be vegan, not sure.

Tiny restaurant/gift shop run by a very sweet couple. The vegetarian set menu is vegan and contains 4 dishes and some green tea for ¥1100. Not very easy to find but was well worth the long walk in the end.

tasty hot soup - Edit
They have a lot of food items on the menu that seem vegetarian but make sure to ask/tell the staff you're vegetarian as some soups are made with fish broth. They will tell you which ones are for vegetarians. They have a vegetarian set option if you make sure to tell them. They have homemade dessert which is tasty as well.

Lovely, friendly spot - Edit
This place was such a relief after several days of being served "vegetarian" meals made with fish stock elsewhere in Japan. The vegetarian/vegan noodle set was delicious -- ¥1100 for the set meal with sides or ¥750 for just the udon dish. Sit by the door to see deer walk by outside every time it's opened! Note this place is a little worn around the edges, so not the place for a "nice" meal out -- but perfect for a day in Nara Park.

There's just one option, a vege udon set meal, but there's not much more you could ask for. Comes with udon n broth, rice, pickles, sesame 'tofu' and tea. So delicious and filling.
