“Do you speak Hindi?” Suffice to say, when placing this order, I didn’t expect my linguistic capabilities to be assessed, but a rather strange phone call to inform me of a delay did just this. Apparently, my lack of polyglot status was rather irksome to the courier as they seemed quite perturbed with me on arrival. As said, the driver was not affiliated with the restaurant; this was by no means an indictment on them. My only hope was that the food was not as bitter as he appeared to be. Mercifully – and perhaps somewhat predictably – acridity was not an issue that I faced over the course of this meal. Though this doesn’t mean it was flawless, as there were other facets that would cause pause for thought.

Following swiftly behind were a collection of bread-based (or bread-adjacent) items. Again, there was nothing negative that could be levied at any individual offering, but conversely, there wasn’t any real praise that I could lavish either: enjoyable without being memorable.
This notion of adequacy without aplomb would prove to be a recurring thread throughout the remaining dishes. Teetering frustratingly on the cusp of excellence, each dish definitely had potential, yet none of them truly impressed. A couple of creations came agonisingly close, the mushroom cashew curry and the Chinese bhel being chief among them.
While I can categorically avow that I was sated by this sizeable banquet, I wasn’t fully satisfied. When there are innumerable exquisite Indian establishments across the city, being anything less than this is always going to make it difficult for me to warrant giving them another chance.
