Perfection! - Edit
WOW! This is a much visit Michelin Star restaurant, showcasing a vegan menu!
Read moreFrom the moment we entered the restaurant, the front of house staff were extremely welcoming and wanted to make sure we had a welcomed stay through. Explaining dishes, wines and checking in every now and then (water top ups).
The food was incredible. We really took note of the different flavours through each dish, especially on some where the taste and smell were very different. Truly remarkable.
We opted for the 50/50 pairing for this sitting which for us was a perfect combination of wine and non-alcoholic options and these were extremely complimentary to the food bring served.
We loved it so much that we are considering a second booking later in the year already! ✨🥂

A fully vegan Michelin star - Edit
This was so lovely to experience, knowing a fully vegan restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star! Some cool dishes and ingredients. I don’t think it was what I expected though, but still very nice.

Read more8 course tasting menu
£109
Lamiable , soufle d'Etoilles Grand cru NV champagne
Low dosage, 40% pn, 60% chd
Served by sommelier "Alex" as well as
Amuse bouche: "sour apple buckwheat"
Blood peach, peach amazake, fresh almond, broc puree, lime oil
Paired:
Eric bordelet, poire granite, traditional method sparkling pear cider, sourced from 300 year old trees in. Normandy France.
Sitting at the bar looking into the open kitchen was amazing to see how cohesive this team are.
Communication was seamless and the product presented precisely. Chef Chris Haworth was the director of this symphony.
"House bread"
Crispy, crunchy yet ever so delicate, like the best croissant you've had.
Bbq tomato broth, with tomato threaded cultured vegan butter, wow a flavor explosion
"Bbq Maitake mushroom", Black bean mole, the perfect level of salty to pair with the umani, meaty intensity of the mushroom. This was perfected by the crunch of the puffed rice completing dis sensory experience.
Paired:
Emiliga Romana native blend of 4 grapes, orange, gentle but flavorful with a mineral intensity that elegantly complemented the maitke.
"Slow cooked leeks"
An odd texture, polarized by both the stringy texture of the mushrooms, the soft elegance of the slow roasted leeks and the cold temperature of the of the Frozen taragon. The flavours saved this confusion and the hot kombu dashi broth was to die for. At the end of this course, I was satisfied and excited for more.
Paired:
Domain Belema, imago 2023,
Savoi, foothills of the Alps
"Gazpachos", salted cucumber, melon and fragrant oil, on avocado puree.
Another wonderful combination of sweet, salty and texture. The crunch of the Mellon was wonderful and pleasant, almost as though a palate cleanser but full of a combination of complementary flavors, from bthe cool sweet melon to the salted cucumber and fragrance if the oil
"Cornish Potatoes", toasted hazelnut, sweet and sour apricot
Additional supplementary pairing:
Roucas Toumba "Les Prémices" 2022 field blend from Vacqueyras.
A fantastic combination of vibrant flavours that distracted me from what I didn't love about the potato dish. I found out that the shio Koji enzyme used on the potatoes gave me what I found unpleasant in a "sushi seaweed flavor" but each to their own.
Ran out of characters...

Amazing Meal and Experience - Edit
Arranging a time to dine at Plates will be an experience of a lifetime. Everything was to the highest standard. Chef and the Team elevate the humble vegetable to its rightful place of a surreal dining experience that nourishes mind, body and soul. So many fine dining establishments depend on roasting meats and covering with sauce for taste. At Plates, the food is prepared with depth of flavor and texture in refreshingly new unexpected format. We especially liked the surprise in between menu items that felt like Christmas treats. We enjoyed the non alcoholic paring with our meal. Each offering was unique and delicious. We would not hesitate to join Plates again when next in London.

10/10 Food, but rude waitress. - Edit
I have looked forward to visiting plates for a long time, and the food was excellent, however the waitress was surprisingly rude which I have never encountered in any fine dining place before. It unfortunately made the experience less enjoyable although the food and the chefs were 10/10..

Beyond Description - Edit
Plates is one of nine Vegan restaurants to make it onto the Michelin Guide globally, earning one star (at time of writing).
Read moreThe food here is exquisite - there can be no doubt about that. This is not an inexpensive option, but the quality and cost pair up nicely, and as a fine-dining experience, is truly delightful.
For us, the opening dish of Wild garlic soup, potato dumplings and a Sour apple & buckwheat truffle; the main of Caramelised Lion's Mane, and the dessert and signature dish Raw cacao gateau were sublime. We did not have the pairing, but tried a handful of different drinks, and all were excellent (including the tea-style brewed hot chocolate).
Having tried other Vegan fine dining, this was somehow yet another step above other examples - we would not have believed it until we finished, but there are no rough edges here; every dish is perfectly smoothed as a culinary journey, the dining experience ideally catered.
The restaurant is small and cosy, and the staff are exceptionally wonderful and politely chatty! They cater for allergies including gluten-free. Bookings were incredibly tight, and we were fortunate to grab on short notice. If you can afford and justify this experience - we couldn't recommend it more!
Pros: Incredible Food, Cosy setting, Wonderful staff

Creative Food - Edit
I suffered train delays and missed my dinner reservation. I tried to call several times, but my phone kept saying the phone number was not a completed number. I sent an email as a last resort. They were kind enough to reserve a lunch spot for me the following day after receiving my email. I was very grateful.
Read moreThey were very attentive about food allergies. The food was very creative and I didn’t dislike anything served.
I was seated directly next to the front door, so the draft was not great on a rainy and windy day, but managed all right.
Pros: Creative food, Great staff
Cons: Bar space is a little small, Timers go off loudly and kitchen is in the same rm

Unreal - Edit
Really really exceptional food, probably the best food ive had in London. Very high standard, fine dining. The only thing i would say to push it to more michelin stars is just improving service slightly. Greatttt wines and drinks as well. Non alcoholic pairing was really delicious, as well as the wine pairing.

Paired with the alcohol free which was a little sugary but all part of the fun.

Have been a fan of Kirk since we watched The Great British Menu so have been trying to get a booking since it opened. We had the 8 course set menu with wine pairing which I recommend. Unfortunately my partner who has a slight mushroom allergy couldn't go because it's a mushroom heavy menu so I ended up taking my dad in the end. We did see Kirk working away in the kitchen which was impressive.

Wow wow wow! We booked in May to eat in October but it was definitely worth the wait!
Read moreThe restaurant itself is gorgeous, very intimate and cosy. The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. They even gave my mum a birthday card which was a lovely touch.
The food is insane. Every dish is so full of flavour and incredibly delicious. I think my favourite was the mushroom - and I’m someone who doesn’t normally like mushrooms!
Kirk (head chef) came out at the end to chat and thank us for dining which was lovely.
Would definitely recommend coming here - if you can get a booking that is!

Finest vegan restaurant I have ever eaten at - Edit
The food is just magical. We opted for the 7 course menu (£75). The menu contains some of the winning dishes from the Great British Menu, and each dish was just so flavoursome, creative and well crafted.
Read moreAll the ingredients are fresh, innovative and well sourced. We were worried of still being hungry afterwards, but that was definitely not the case.
We both had an alcohol-free drink and again, it was not your run-of-the-mill soda, but a sophisticated and grown-up blend.
We're not used to these kinds of restaurants and were worried of making a faux-pas, but the staff was brilliant at giving information and answered any questions we coukd have had before they even came up.
It's a bit on the expensive side and needs to be booked month in advance, but really worth every penny.
Pros: The Feast of Farah lasagna, The staff were so lovely and attentive , The atmosphere and decor (the bathroom sink!)
Cons: Only that we cannot go back sooner! 😂

Another vegan heaven! - Edit
I had been very impressed by Kirk Haworth's food when I visited his Plates pop up restaurant at Untitled in Dalston 2 years ago, so I was quite excited about his new permanent restaurant.
Read moreThis second visit didn't disappoint! Everything is plant-based, gluten free and refined sugar free, but it certainly isn't free of flavours and creativity! Ingredients are delicately combined to maximise an explosion of sensations in your mouth.
I find it hard to decide which dish was my favourite, but the barbecued mushroom with mole and the herbaceous ice-cream were particularly delicious...
Pros: Exquisite food, Reasonably priced for the quality , Nice staff and venue
