Too good for only One visit - Edit
We have been there two times, because there were so many delicious options on the menu and we couldn’t agree on choosing all of them during our first visit… All in all each of the dishes was delicious! Maybe some of those are a bit on the fried side, which is for us Europeans, not as common as it is in North America… I guess
Read moreIt is a very special and good place and also the prices are in my opinion for it being very central in downtown Toronto reasonable.

Great food in a gorgeous restaurant - Edit
We stopped at Planta Queen for dinner. My first reaction was that the restaurant itself is gorgeous. From the deep red tile outside to the detailed decor inside, it’s clear a lot there was a lot of thought put in. We ordered the unagi eggplant with miso truffle, the crispy rice with ahi watermelon, the volcano with heart of palm crab, the avocado beetroot tartare, and the mushroom beef and broccoli. The unagi eggplant came out first and it was amazing. The texture was soft and creamy and I can’t even describe how tasty it was. It was an amazing little flavour bomb. The crispy rice was really good too, it’s surprising how good the watermelon was and it was not overly sweet. The toppings on the volcano were really good and definitely elevated the maki rolls. The beet tartar was also super flavourful and the addition of the avocado added creaminess. For us, the miss in the meal, and what dropped my rating from 5 stars to 4, was the beef and broccoli. The description said the beef was made from wok seared shiitake mushrooms, but the texture in my mind was the same as overcooked and dry mycelium mushroom steaks. The pieces were hard to chew and the dish in my mind was not improved with the addition of rather bland chunks of tofu. With one exception we definitely ate some amazing food.

Meh - Edit
Asian food? Ish. It’s over rated . The food isn’t bad, there’s just nothing to it. There’s so many better vegan Asian places to eat.

Wow! Blew me away - Edit
The restaurant is just a few blocks from my hotel so I tried it out. Very creative menu and nearly everything is gluten free! I couldn’t decide what to get, as I wanted to try everything! I tried the nigiri options and the avocado beet tartar. Now I want to come back and try other things on the menu! Fantastic!

Delisshhhhh. Loved the crispy potato straws that came on the Firecracker roll. Was a little worried it might be too spicy but was very mild. The fried rice was insane. Super oily but it felt very much like a speciality meal. The mushroom bacon was to die for. The banana pudding was SO FREAKING GOOD. Light and fresh so so yum.

They let me sit at the bar and order entrees 😊 I finally was able to experience a poke bowl and I also had the v flavorful lettuce wraps and a mocktail. The vibe was modern and the staff made me feel welcome. Thanks Planta 😍

You HAVE to go here! - Edit
Best vegan food we’ve had in our two weeks in Canada! We had sushi, bai buns, potato stacks and bang bang broccoli. All of it was amazing, but the broccoli and the sushi was so good we actually ordered a second portion after we’d finished everything else!

Never disappoints! - Edit
What can I say? Another great meal at PLANTA, first time at the Queen location. Loved the Crab Rangoon Dip and the Banana Pudding in particular! They also have great cocktails. I always enjoy ordering their appetizer and dessert options that you don’t often find on vegan menus… think cheesy or creamy. They do those flavours and textures really well. Delicious! 👌🌱

The best sushi I've ever had - Edit
Beautiful place, great atmosphere and incredible food! The black labelled pressed sushi was the best sushi I've ever had - a genuine recommendation if you have a chance to grab a bite here or in any other of Planta's locations - there are a few in Toronto, and even in LA.

Delicious but expensive sushi - Edit
Went here on a work trip, on a Monday to take advantage of their "Maki Mondays" offer. The sushi was delicious, probably the best sushi I've had (although I almost never get sushi so take from that what you will), and very artistic. The restaurant had very nice interior décor, and overall a very pleasant place to eat.
Read moreI got the spicy tuna maki, the volcano maki, the dragon maki, and the red dragon maki, with a drink of their Not-A-Rita mocktail (they were out of something for the miso mango sour, my first choice). They were very artistic and delicious, particularly the volcano, and the mocktail was good as well. The heart-of-palm mock crab was very cold but I think that was intentional. Even the wasabi was good.
The major con of this place is the price. My meal was 50 CAD which was like 65 CAD after HST and tip, which went barely over my work trip max. That's the price with the $9 maki plates for "Maki Mondays". If work wasn't paying I could drop the drink and it would only be $39, which is still much more expensive than my normal fare, but I could justify it. On a day other than a Monday, my bill would have been ~108 total. Sushi adds up! The non-sushi offerings were more reasonably priced.
(I'm also not sure how to trigger the $29 amount attached to the Maki Monday offering. It didn't for me.)
All in all- don't take a first date here on a Friday night. Take your financially conscious long term partner for your anniversary on a Monday night where both of you know you are saving for a house and know not to go overboard. Or go on your work's dime like me (but also on a Monday so you can eat more sushi!)
Food-wise you won't regret it though.
Pros: Food, Ambience
Cons: Price of sushi

Yummy sushi!! - Edit
Have been to the Chicago location of PLANTA Queen, and now Toronto! Although this place is pricey, sometimes they have good deals during the week. I went on “Maki Monday” where they let the table order unlimited sushi for $29 CAD a head. Very reasonable and the sushi came out at the right pace for us to keep up with. I left very full and satisfied

The best banana puding ever! - Edit
It was unlike any other vegan restaurant I've visited. It was a far more decent and roomy place than any of them. They don't even characterize themselves as vegan; instead, they say they're plant-based. I have been there several times. I tried new things each time I went. But I had one same thing every time: banana pudding. It was the best dessert I've ever had as a vegan.
