Good food, relaxed atmosphere - Edit
We had the Mexican Caesar which was great, the chili with molasses corn bread A , and the mac and cheese which was terrific especially on the cold night we were there. The sweets were all great too, we got a few and loved them all.

Awesome cakes! - Edit
If you have a sweet tooth and love cake, this is your place! Everything is gluten-free and vegan, you can't tell there is any ingredient substitution (I often avoid gluten-free cakes because they are usually dry and crumbly) and they have really great rotating flavors to choose from! I think the prices are reasonable for what you get- slices are typically three layers.

Exceptional treats - Edit
A great place to go for a treat. By the slice and perfect. I've only ordered a savoury dish once, the pot pie. It was just as good as the sweets!

I loved the mint items - Edit
I liked the chili beans with avocado. The faux cheddar cheese shreds on top were nothing special. The cornbread was very sweet. I think I would like it more if it were savory as I want a different dessert item when I am there, not for the actual food item to be dessert.
Read moreLoved the mint squares and mint ice cream with chocolate hard shell topping.
They definitely use honey in one drink, as stated on the signboard. They stated to me that they don't use honey in the food and dessert items.
Pros: tasty

Sad I only got to eat here once! - Edit
I was so excited to visit Petunia's because as a vegan with celiac disease, I can eat anything on the menu! Woot! I had the Thin Mint Brownie Ice Cream Sundae with Salted Caramel Cookie Bar as my ice cream scoop. Because it came with chocolate all over it, I wasn't really able to properly analyze the mint brownie or the ice cream on their own. But, all in all, it was a delicious mess! Very sweet, good to share.
Read moreI also couldn't resist buying a cookie and a bar to try later. The cookie was a bit dry and crumbly, but the bar (Buster Bar?) was SO GOOD. Peanut buttery on the bottom, with chocolate on top. Again, very sweet and good to share.
Wish I could have gone back and tried some savory items. My friend who isn't vegan or gluten free got a biscuit with butter and jam and lemonade and said it was very good.
Pros: Vegan AND Gluten Free!, Walking distance to Powell's =), Cute, good seating, don't rush you.

Tasty pastries and more! - Edit
Don’t think petunias is just pastries! While they do have many delicious cupcakes, pies, muffins, cookies, and more, they also have a humble selection of breakfast and lunch foods. Their grilled cheese and tomato bisque soup are particularly good.

Delicious vegan and gluten free pastries and meals served in the heart of Portland - Edit
After a hard morning (well not really) we were in need of something yummy, despite having had a large and filling breakfast. We were not on for a full on meal so we decided we'd settle for a snack - we some pastries!
Read moreWe had heard about a vegan bakery called Petunia's on the periphery of Portland's Pearl District so we decided this sounded perfect for what we needed. In In 2010, Lisa Clark founded the very first entirely gluten free & vegan baking business in Portland; Petunia's Pies and Pastries. From here things grew to the point where she and her partner decided to open a bricks and mortar joint on Portland's busy 12th Avenue.
It is not difficult to find, and the place is very light and airy inside. The interior design style and their merchandising is very cutesy (a little too much for my masculine sensitivities) but it has a pleasant atmosphere. The pastries and cakes were to die for, but we stuck to our mission of having some pastries so we had a tasty scone and a scrumptious peanut butter and dark chocolate bar. Wow! All this we washed down with some very nice coffee.
Had we been hungrier they have a selection of breakfast (served all day) and lunch dishes which sounded and looked (judging by what others were eating ... can't help being a little nosy) fantastic. We'll be trying those on a future visit for sure.
Now I am not usually fixated by toilets (unlike Karen who tries never to pass one by) but when she returned from her visit she said I must go and see then gents. Well, I wasn't really needing to go but I went anyway to wash my hands and they indeed were very stylish, particularly the metallic sinks the had been decorated with hammered designs in their interior. It was worth the journey!
So, we were very impressed with Petunia's and will definitely be returning, this time when we are hungrier. The cakes especially look good ... so we might need to buy one for a special occasion.
Pros: Great food, Central location in Portland, 100% vegan menu
Cons: A bit pricey, limited menu

One stop for vegan meal and dessert - Edit
A place you can get a delicious savory meal and then a sweet dessert, all vegan.
Read moreMac & cheese cup was a little disappointing in its portion size and the taste. The best vegan Mac I had so far in Portland is still from Vtopia.
Pot pie was hot and filling with crispy crust. Side salad was simple.
We chose one of imperfect cup cakes, that had its icing a little mushed. A lot cheaper than the regular price. We liked the taste. The icing was very delicious!
Pros: Service is nice., So many dessert options., And they are all pretty.
Cons: Portion is a bit small.

Cute as petunias! - Edit
Such a quaint little place right in downtown. Beautiful church stained glasses windows across the street to look at and the decor inside is so springy and adorable. The menu isn’t overwhelming but offers vegan&gluten free comfort food. I had the pot pie with salad (the dressing is delicious) and chili. My son got the Mac and cheese which he didn’t like, but I thought it was good- he is going to try the grilled cheese next time. Loose leaf tea is served in a little tea pot and they have an array of flavors. The pastries were killer! We got the sugar cookie, double chocolate cupcake and lemon poppyseed blackberry cupcake (omg! Get this!!) my partner isn’t huge on vegan food yet but he liked the pot pie. The staff was nice. Our experience was great and we will be back.

An array of vegan desserts - Edit
All the desserts- pies, cakes, cookies, donuts and ice cream- are vegan and gluten free. We tried the peach-bumble berry pie that had large chunks of fresh fruit; definitely not canned pie filling, snd chocolate layer cake with mint frosting; also delicious. A savory breakfast and lunch menu was also available. The setting is beautiful with white interiors and pink accents and exposed vintage brick walls. It really feels and acts like a dessert shop.

Good but not impressed with brownie. - Edit
Honestly don’t understand why this cafe got so good reviews. Interior is very nice and cute. Workers were friendly. Not overpriced that much. I came here for a piece of cake but it was too big, so I chose a little brownie. I expected cooled sweet fudge brownie, but what I got was like melted cream. Toooo sweet I was glad the brownie was small, lukewarm, and was too soft(almost creamy). Disappointed.. Maybe try cakes in show case.

Cute interior, huge dessert selection. I had a tasty grilled pesto sandwich which came with side salad. Decently priced food. Desserts are on the expensive side, but seems common for vegan dessert options.

Everything we’ve tried at Petunia’s (sweet and savory) has been at least good, and many things have been exceptional. It’s great that everything is vegan and gluten-free, and any potential allergens are clearly marked. I also recommend getting a grilled cheeze with soup!

Delicious with Many Options - Edit
Visiting Portland with my mother and we stumbled upon Petunia's. As we walked in, we were appalled by the beautiful and cozy interior of the location along with the case of multiple, beautifully displayed treats. It was so hard to pick just one out of the many flavors and baked goods available. We both got the breakfast sandwich, a coffee cake, and a latte and were impressed by all of them. The sandwich was amazing and had us full for the entire day. Usually gluten-free baking can be hard to master, but this place has got it down. The coffee cake was delicious and probably one of the best I've ever had. Finally, their lattes were out of this world. Everything was presented really nicely and the people working there were extremely friendly and helpful.
