🌶️🍛 Pakwan - A Flavorful Journey in the SF Mission 🍛🌶️ - Edit
Vibrant Atmosphere: The lively ambiance added to the overall experience. Ordering at the counter was quick and efficient, and finding a seat was a breeze.
Read moreSamosa: I started with Samosas. While the pastries were slightly colder than expected, the chickpea sauce stole the show. Its savory-sweet taste was an unexpected delight, making it a unique twist on a classic appetizer.
Allo Matter Perfection: For the main course, I savored the Allo Matter - a comforting blend of Potatoes and Peas in a rich sauce. The flavor and spice were just right for a chilly evening, leaving a lingering warmth that was truly satisfying.
Naan Perfection: The Naan was a showstopper – served hot and fresh, it was the ideal companion to the Allo Matter. The portion was generous, making it perfect for sharing or enjoying over multiple courses.
Conclusion: Pakwan delivered an experience that went beyond the ordinary. The Allo Matter and Naan stole the spotlight, showcasing the authenticity of Indian flavors. While the Samosas were a bit cool, the chickpea sauce compensated with its unforgettable taste. A recommended spot for those seeking a flavorful journey in the heart of the Mission!
Pros: Plenty of seating , Great flavors
Cons: Samosas were a disappointment

Vegan biriyani is great - Edit
A lot of stuff on the menu is vegan (often marked) or can be modified (you should ask). Takeout is pretty fast.
Read moreI’ve never been disappointed by anything on the menu. Sometimes I wish it were a bit spicier, though.

14 vegetarian entrees & eight of them can be made vegan - Edit
I recently went to Pakwan for dinner. I am surprised it took me so long to visit here as was pleasantly surprised.
Read moreHere is the drill for dining at Pakwan as a vegan. There are 14 vegetarian entrees & eight of them can be made vegan. Decisions. My server recommended I try the Aloo Palak- Potatoes & Spinach so that is what I ordered. I enjoyed it as was quite alright.
Unfortunately the Naan contains eggs & yogurt so go with the roti which is vegan. The red chutney in a bottle in the fridge is vegan.
All in all was an enjoyable meal. Felt the Aloo Palak with one roti was plenty of food as didn't need to order additional rice.
Look forward to subsequent visits at Pakwan for affordable & flavorful Indian cuisine with plenty of vegan options.
Pros: 14 vegetarian entrees & 8 can be vegan

Menu changes for vegans? - Edit
Old reviews say nothing is vegan, but now many of their vegetarian items have a note next to them saying “ask for vegan”. Maybe this isn’t legit, but it seemed to be. Food was good. Not super expensive. Rice is ordered separate, which is common in this area. Just a note for when ordering.

Delicious food at great prices - Edit
The food here is phenomenal and very affordable compared to other options in SF. It’s very casual and you can bring your own drinks. We’ve been coming to this place for years and quality is always consistently great. BTW I found it very unfair that another reviewer dinged it with a 1 star review because it had vegetarian but no or few vegan ones. For people who like spicy vegetarian dishes, this place is perfect.

No vegan food - Edit
Came here with some friends, was told by the server that everything on the menu was made with dairy and so there wasn't anything vegan. Not super surprising considering most north indian/pakistani food is made with ghee, and the fact that all of their dishes appear to be made ahead of time in bulk, but still a bummer. Just a FYI if you are vegan and seeing this on HappyCow!
