True Gem in Gaia, Guará Restaurant & Bakery Formerly known as Padoca (renamed to avoid confusion with another place in Porto). - Edit
Absolutely fantastic experience at Guará Restaurant & Bakery!
Read moreFrom the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed by a cozy and vibrant atmosphere, perfect for lunch or dinner. The team was incredibly attentive and friendly, ready to explain the menu and give great suggestions. The food itself was exceptional, full of flavour, beautifully presented, and clearly made with real passion and creativity. Even non-vegans are blown away by the taste and quality! 💚
The menu offers such inventive plant-based options that you forget you’re at a vegan restaurant, with delicious twists on classics like the vegan francesinha and savory bakery items. And don’t even get me started on the desserts , they are a real highlight and worth saving room for!
It’s also worth mentioning the story behind the name change (to avoid confusion with another Padoca in Porto) but trust me, this place stands on its own as a must-visit in Gaia/Porto for anyone who loves great food.
Highly recommended, I’ll definitely be back!

This was located 10 minutes from my hotel so I passed it daily. I ate in once and also visited twice for croissants and pastel de nata (which were delicious).

Note the signage is still under previous name - Padoca. Highly recommended by a Portuguese friend (always a good sign when a local rates a vegan joint) and it certainly lived up to its fame.

Rico - Edit
Escogemos opciones portuguesas. Francesinha, tofu de la casa (plato tipo pescado) y plato de bacalao. La francesinha no soy muy amigo de ellas, pero esta es la más rica que he comido hasta ahora. El plato de bacalao para mí el más rico.

Delicious - Edit
It used to call A Padoca (more like a bakery), but now it's called Guará, and it's a restaurant. A few options of burgers, and other dishes with tofu or other proteins with rice or salad. It was well made, tasty and good looking dishes. They also have desserts and other bakery things like croissants. Friendly staff. It was very busy around 1PM.

Great place with very nice staff, located next to Vila Nova de Gaia main street . Offering tasty traditional Portuguese food and pastries. They have propably the best pastel de nata around, which already makes it worth a visit.

Best vegan restaurant around - Edit
This is a bit confusing because on Google and on the storefront this was called Padoca, but the address and everything else seems to tell me that this is the listing.
Read moreThis is hands-down the best vegan restaurant my girlfriend and I have tried in Portugal, and probably up there with anything we've tried in Paris, Amsterdam, Guadalajara, or back home in Austin.
The chorizo quesadillas (not sure if that was their actual name) were spectacular, and the "duck" dish was excellent (reminded me of paella). The francesinha was quite good too (although if you find yourself in Coimbra, the one at Praxis brewery is the best one we've tried.)
The donuts were also delicious. We would've loved to come back here the next day but unfortunately we had to leave Porto before they opened.

appetizing pastries - Edit
I have been a customer of guará (previously padoca) for years and had the pleasant surprise of finding them in a plant based market - and I knew straight away that I would indulge and get some of the best and most delicious pastries I have ever had in my life. the donuts are something out of this world and they completely melt in your mouth - the filling is both creamy and delicate. really recommend them and I hope to have very soon the chance to support them again!

Make reservations on their website; it was busy when we went. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. Had the house francichesca and the "duck" rice, and both were very good. It was such a treat to easily order vegan food in Portugal!

I would give 6 stars if I could - Edit
Probably the best service I've ever gotten in any restaurant.
Read moreWe went there twice. The first time we had sausage, cheese and bread as a starter, my girlfriend had a burger as her main and I tried a chicken Francesinha. The taste was exceptional. The waiters were all really friendly, I was regularly asked if I wanted more sauce. Afterwards we took some pastries to go, those being one Pizza pastry, one filled with seitan, a KitKat doughnut and a pistachio croissant. All of them were amazing as well, and we even got a free Pastel de Nata because I tipped 6€ (which is pretty standard on a bill of 54€!). The food for that price is unbelievably good, mains are 13 - 15€, a doughnut is 2.80€. Similarly sized and decorated doughnuts are usually twice that in price in Germany.
The second time we went there was our 7 year anniversary. We had the same starter but different main dishes. My girlfriend had what was basically a baguette bun filled with sausage, topped with cheese in a Francesinha sauce, and I had Patatas Rotas, which consists of seitan strips, sausage, potatoes and cheese in a Francesinha sauce. For dessert I had the cheesecake and my girlfriend the semifreddo.
Like before, food and service was absolutely amazing. The waiter even took our picture after I asked him to because of our anniversary. Because of that we got a free snickers doughnut to take home!
I would eat here everyday if I could. Definitely the best vegan restaurant near Porto.
