Delightful

Lovely atmosphere, great service, and good food. I had the vegan delight platter and Wakoucha Japanese black tea. I also took a slice of fig cake to go for later. Everything was really good!

Pros: Tea, Service, Flavours

Best karaage

I've had karaage 3 times so far on Japan, this is the best place for me! The red peppers tasted delicious, unlike I've had before. The homemade cola was also refreshing and fragrant.

Pros: Jolie assiette colorée, Kombusha maison, Personnel sympa

Cons: Petites quantités, Rapport quantité/prix, Peu de saveurs hormis le tofu.

Bevor man Tempel und Hirsche bestaunt erst einmal gut essen? Das hat hier gut funktioniert. Kuchen gab es auch 😃

Amazing Vegan Karaage!

Very juicy Karaage with satiating rice bed.

Both the “Vegan Delight” platter (where you get a bit of everything) and the “Shojin Karaage Bowl” were great.

Although we think the Karaage was so good, we’d opt for that twice next time.

The interior of the restaurant is very cute and has a very pleasant atmosphere; but we took the order to go because they were closing up.

Wonderful

What a lovely place. It is a bit out of the way but it was delicious and so relaxing. I had the karaage bowl, which was divine. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. Recommend!

Little gem

Found this place on Happy Cow while staying in Nara. Having subsisted on a green burger and countless tofu sticks from 7-11, it was quite a treat to have a menu to choose from. I went for the veggie delight (a bit of everything) and it was truly delicious! Every element was freshly cooked. It is a small place with a compact kitchen, so each meal is cooked to order and might arrive at the table at different times, but that was part of its charm.

There is a fridge full of homemade desserts to choose from along with a selection of parfaits and shaved ice. I went for the tarte au chocolat and my children has the watermelon and fig parfait (from the special menu) and everything was delicious.

The restaurant is a bit hidden away and accessed through what looks like a gap in the fence but Google maps finds it easily.

Pros: Cosy, relaxed vibe, Fresh cooked, tasty food, Delicious desserts

Little bit out of the way but so worth it

This place has a good vibe, friendly owners and above all the food was delicious. Especially the kaarage was the best I have had in Japan. Definitely a must visit.

A bit disorganized but cute

Nice cafe, the interiors are really nice. A bit small place but gives wonderful vibe. The entrance is hard to find and it is not located in picturesque area. The food is really good, and not that pricey, but the service seemed understaffed, overwhelmed. I was hoping to get Kakigori but I received just ball of strawberry ice cream and I was told that they have not started with kakigori yet (but no one told me about it when I ordered kakigori and it was only written in Japanese menu). (Ofc they cancelled my dessert, but this shows the level of miscommunication)

Cons: Disorganized , Mistakes because staff does not speak English

Nice restaurant

The Karaage and the Daikon-mochi were really good.
I personally have eaten better Karaage but this one was good and the sauce was very delicious!
The other things on the menu and the caked looked good too.
The restaurant is very small and kind of cramped but not in an negative way.

The service was very slow though.

Pros: Karaage sauce, Cute cafe

Cons: Rather slow service

Cute little place for great food

I came by here before taking the train back home from Nara Station. It is maybe a ten minute walk into a neighborhood. So you have to look for the sign as it will be kind of hidden. The ladies helped me make a choice between all the different food on the menu. It is definitely a healthy place that has lots of vegan & gluten free options!

Pros: Healthy food 🥰, Quiet place to relax after a whole day of walking

Cons: Little bit on the expensive side

Mega lecker!

Beautiful strawberry tart

Enjoyed the karaage but the definite highlight was the strawberry tart. The most expensive place we’ve eaten in Japan, but worth the money and the walk from the deer park. Also enjoyed sitting on the floor to eat!

Excellent service, excellent food

Came in after spending all day travelling from Naoshima Island, greeted with the biggest smiles, the best service and the most amazing vegan food I’ve had here. The plum wine is astounding!

Cute yet serious

Super-cute cafe with seriously good vegan food. After paying I noticed their gorgeous cakes so we sat down again and scoffed them before the bike ride back to the hotel.

Very good

Always a good option when in Nara. Easy access from JR Nara Station.
The food is good, but I feel tho the quality decreased a bit over the years. I feel the plate is quite expensive for what you get now. The oriental plate had mainly fried stuff and mostly cold veggies. For the price of 2400yen, I would expect at least a soup. But it's a tourist spot, so it can't be helped.

Cute cafe serving delicious food

A cute little establishment tucked away in a side road in Nara. I dropped by for lunch during my visit to the city. I got the vegan delight which was a platter with all the different dishes they have to offer. Everything was really tasty and the ladies who served me were lovely. I really wanted to try out a cake but I was full from the lunch. Maybe next time!🤩 #Veganuary

Amazing little cafe

Onwa was one of my favorite restaurants during my recent trip to Japan. The owners and staff are really attentive and can speak some English. The food is delicious and there's such a wide variety too. I had the Vegan Delight which has a sampling of everything. I would have gotten a dessert too if I weren't so stuffed. They looked amazing. There's a little display at the front of the cafe to tempt you as you walk in. If I ever return to Nara, I'll definitely eat here again.

Also, it may not be apparent at first glance but the entrance is on the right side of the fence. There's a small walking path that's covered by the fence and the ivy.

Pros: Delicious food, Staff is really friendly

Local vegan food

Onwa is a 40 min.walk from the deer park and even if it seems long it’s worth it. We chose the taco lunch set and the oriental lunch set. Both were beautifully presented and came with all kinds of little morsels to enjoy. The hojicha tea and seasonal kombucha were refreshing and flavorful. For dessert we had the warmed baked apple cake ( the best I ever had ) and the basque cheesecake. The owner chef is so kind and accommodating and has all the talent needed to make her customers very happy. We were!!!!
