Great Takoyaki!

We are vegan and allergic to gluten. Until now, there were no vegan takoyaki around Namba and Shinsaibashi stations. We had given up on trying the local cuisine, but we have found the one and only takoyaki.
It was wonderful. We ordered the takoyaki plate and the 1500 yen kushikatsu, both of which are vegan and gluten-free. The takoyaki is made with soybeans instead of wheat flour, so it is very healthy and hearty. Drinks are only 200 yen and you can make your own. My friend was pleased with the wide variety of scotch and bourbon. Gluten free beer is also available for 200 yen. Highly recommended.

Pros: affordable, All Vegan Menu Also suitable for gluten-free, Cool Place

Cheap food in central Osaka in a tight restaurant

Food was really good value but we found the flavours a bit bland.

Not sure if we just didn't get it as it was our first time having takoyaki.

Yummy!

Absolutely smashing and very authentic tasting takoyaki cooked single-handely by the chef/owner. Cool place with good vibes and laid-back drinks service. The queue was long but the wait was worth it. Next time we’ll go outside of busy new times.

Pros: Authentic flavours , Cool vibes , Very tasty

Tasty and fun!

We tried a couple of different flavours of takoyaki, along with a side of pickles and fried battered vegetables. It was a really tasty and filling meal, in a cool and funky location. It's quite small and can't seat many, so the queue is quite long - we waited 45 minutes but people had been waiting almost 2 hours. But once you've ordered the service is pretty quick and the food is worth it, especially as a late night meal to end the night.

Pros: Fresh food, Cool location with a great vibe

Cons: Long wait time to sit, Not a huge variety of options, Not many drink options

Highly recommend this Takoyaki

Initially tried going to the okonomiyaki restaurant but the queue was quite long so opted for the takoyaki restaurant down the road. There was a fair wait as there was only one person taking orders and cooking. But she was so enthusiastic! I got 2 takoyakis as I wanted to try the different topics - it ended up being very filling. The takoyaki was extremely delicious- 10/10 recommend!

Pros: Vibes and staff

Authentic and delicious

Oko Tako was an excellent place to visit after a long day of exploring Osaka.

The atmosphere is very nice and it’s very self serve which I thought was quite interesting and gave the restaurant a sort of home like vibe. Just an fyi There is very limited seating inside the restaurant!

I had the cold tofu, assorted skewers and the spicy Takoyaki (which was surprisingly quite spicy at times). It was a lot more food than I needed but it was all very good!

Pros: Great atmosphere , Excellent food

Cons: Limited seating

Great food, great vibes, small space

Really unique place. It is very small and can get cramped if there‘s some people there. Also the interior is very charming (info flyers, stickers and writings on all the walls), but I imagine it can be pretty overwhelming too. Don‘t come here if you need to relax 😅
Drinks are mostly self-service mocktails which is also very unique and fun. The food was amazing, as expected! I found the spicy takoyaki to be very spicy indeed 🌶️

Wow!

Food is amazing (and ¥1000 for everything I got in my picture uploaded). Whole menu is vegan 😊 Staff are lovely and you can tell it’s definitely a place that cares about the environment and the food they make. One of my favourite places in Japan😄

Life saver when arriving late at night

We arrived in Osaka much later than we had hoped and were glad to see that there was a vegan place still open. Great first impression of Osaka. Amazing food and a completely different feel to the rest of Japan. Very rough and ready.

Pros: Food taste, Atmosphere, Drink choice

Mediocre food, cramped space

This was not the place for me. We ordered kushikatsu and two versions of takoyaki, one with the standard sauce and the other with spicy sauce and vegan cheese. The takoyaki was served with miso soup and a red cabbage salad as well - the soup was really tasty.

The takoyaki was quite burned. I'm not sure if it's supposed to have a kind of caramelised or charred effect, but it did just taste like it was burned. That was the predominant flavour, as the standard sauce was unremarkable and the balls themselves were very bland. Inside they had a texture that was reminiscent of veggie fingers - soft potato and small pieces of carrot and pea. The spicy sauce added some flavour, but the cheese was unremarkable.

The kushikatsu was ok. The mushrooms were juicy and flavoursome.

It's a very small and crowded spot, which is not really what I wanted after a hot and tiring day out and about. You are really squeezed in with other people. It was especially difficult to reach the drinks station. As far as we could see, the only soft drink was water. There were a few syrups you could add and a sign promoting the creation of mocktails, but we couldn't see any base or elements besides these, so if you're not drinking alcohol the options are poor.

Neat!

Super cool concept! I never got to eat takoyaki before going vego when i was 20 like 10 years ago now so it was neat to be able to experience it. My partner assured me that it’s very close to what takoyaki is really like, personally I just found them to be enjoyable dough balls, not super special but nice to eat in a quick pinch. The restaurant had decent portions, the food came out very quick. My partner got the classic and I got the ketchup-mayo sauce mix, which was a little strong in flavour but still pretty good! Would defs go back and try the other flavours

Pros: Vegan takoyaki! Hooray!, 200y make your own drink station

Cons: Ketchup overpowering the takoyaki

Cool place and great experience

So glad to be able to try takoyaki and it was delicious. We had the spicy and original and enjoyed both. We also had the kushikatsu which was just okay compared to the takoyaki!

Great to try a classic Osaka food and highly recommended.

Pros: Spicy takoyaki , Original takoyaki, The location and walls

Fun vibe, OK food

I didn’t really love the food to be honest—too soft and kinda bland. But killer and fun vibe. Fun making my own drinks. No line when we went!

Amazing place

Such a great experience in this tiny gem of a place. One girl running the show, you order at the counter as you go in and find a place to squeeze in. Atmosphere lovely. Drinks are self service. Food gorgeous as others have said. Get there early, there was a queue forming as we left. Must be tried!

Unique vegan restaurant!

Great vegan takoyaki in Osaka (I preferred the spicy item). Cash preferred but cards accepted for certain orders. Relaxed environment and portions were generous.

Great vibe and good food.

I have no idea what Takoyaki is or how is supposed to be but this was very tasty. If you fancy trying it, go for it. Make sure you're okay with gooey textures. The woman running it is super lovely and the vibe of the place is pretty cool!

Not bad!

Good restaurant, and good food overall. Never had takoyaki before, and didn’t know what it was. It’s got a VERY SOFT almost raw texture that was new to me (I like crispy/crunchy foods). Still ate about half of the takoyaki. The meal was very filling.

Best vegan takoyaki. Osaka takoyaki is creamier than Tokyo, but still worth trying. Made without Wheat. Gluten free vegan friendly. Amazing options. Small shop. AmaZing service. A MUST go to place.
Also go to sister location 5 min away!!
Kushikatsu and takoyaki are foods I never thought I'd have.
Staff cares about food very much, food taste like love is first ingredient

Delicious and friendly!

Lovely vegan takoyaki in a friendly, cool setting. If you order kashikatsu and get a red-tipped skewer you also get a free drink. Couldn’t get enough of the vegan mayo - all-round fab.
