Dinner Set - Edit
Mumokuteki is located upstairs and the restaurant is spacious and modern. The staff speak a little English and there is an English menu. We both ordered set dinners. Each of the dinners contained elements that were fantastic, kind of bland, and not so great. I suspect this is purely I “taste” perspective.

Fav restaurant in Kyoto - Edit
Hands down my fav place in Kyoto, the sets are incredible, so much flavour & food in one meal. I loved all the tiny dishes you got with each set. The Omurice was the best food I had in Japan I went two days running cause it was so good.

Could be better - Edit
It’s a convenient location but for a little more effort there are better places. Folks rave about the miso cutlets but they were fair at best. We tried their ice cream and tiramisu but we wish we didn’t.

It’s great to see a vegan restaurant around Nishiki market but the food is bland. You can’t taste the real flavours of Japan!

Viele Kleinigkeiten - Edit
Im zweiten Stock eines Ladens, befindet sich dieses Restaurant. Die Speisen kamen schnell und waren recht lecker, aber ich bevorzuge dann doch ein einziges Hauptgericht.

Nice food - Edit
Tasty food but not a very intimate experience like some other places we have been to in Kyoto seems like a franchise type cafe.

Ordered two meal sets between a family of four. Our kids were hungry so we could have added a bit more but they'd already called last orders.
Closes at 8, last orders by 7.
Pros: Staff attitude, Nice variety, Presentation
Cons: The partmer shop downstairs closes at 6pm

Good restaurant, better desserts! - Edit
This is a good lunch and dinner restaurant with classic Japanese cuisine. They have a great omurice and curry. The menu is a bit limited but what they have is full of flavour. The desserts are amazing with loads of strawberry’s and tiramisu.

Tasty and healthy, worth a visit for the ramen or mochi - Edit
Mumokuteki is one of the better options in Kyoto for healthy and tasty food at reasonable prices. The ramen in soy milk here is at least as good as the same dish at another establishment nearby that is known for it, and much less salty (which we both appreciate), and the warabi mochi is particularly good here, too. The set meals offer good value.

Disappointed - Edit
Our first choice of restaurant was full, so we came here to get out of the rain. The first thing we noticed was that prices were higher than most places we’d visited in Japan so far, but we were hungry so decided to overlook this.
Read moreThe QR code ordering system didn’t work, and our order turned up incorrect. We don’t speak Japanese so decided just to eat what we were given. It was fine but definitely the most forgettable food we’ve eaten in Japan so far.
The desserts looked amazing but I didn’t want to spend ¥2000 on a parfait to be similarly disappointed so we left still hungry😒

Vegan takes on Japanese favourites - Edit
As per the description, located upstairs in the Mumokuteki shop within a main covered shopping street in the heart of Kyoto. Can be accessed by both elevator and stairs. Clear English menu with lots of options, the set menus offering a variation on a main with rice, and then a number of specific side dishes that are the same for each set, and can also be ordered separately. Range of desserts and drinks also available. Expensive for Japan, but not necessarily so in context of being a specialty food (e.g. vegan only) and being in a major foot traffic route.
Read morePros: Good selection of set meals and individual options, Attentive and friendly staff, Accessible location
Cons: Quite expensive

Lots of veggies - Edit
The set meals come with a lot of side dishes (very mild tasting!). The steamed veggies all tasted great, the portion was pretty big and with all the sides that came with it, it was a really filling and healthy meal.
Read moreThe seasonal parfait was tasty aswell and had a lot of strawberries.
The shiso drink was bland which was a bit unfortunate.
All in all good food, lots of options and nice desserts aswell.
