Good fun and fun vibes! - Edit
You know those restaurants where you hear about them once and then they live rent free in your head? That was Mr. Charlie’s for me. I saw a reel about them and had been eager to visit. They are so playfully cheeky! What’s even more hilarious is that there was a McDonald’s right across the street 😂 I was thoroughly impressed with the aesthetic of the restaurant.

Loved the theme and that it's right over the road from McDonald's! I'd much rather give my money to a vegan place honestly, even though it's quite a bit more pricey.

I live for the fact that Mr. Charlie's is located right across the street from McDonald's. You can't deny it's hilarious but hey, a lot of fast food places use the red-yellow color scheme to make you hungry and it works.
Read moreThe fully vegan burger shop hits on nostalgia especially for people like me that no longer eat meat. The shop was cooky but fun with a few tables inside these large Mr. Frownie boxes.
They use impossible patties for their meat and offer a similar menu to the golden arches. Being breakfast time, I decided on the Mr.Muffin that used Justegg and an impossible breakfast patty. The food reminded me so hard of the old McD days that I have to give them their flowers. I also got to try their fries and while it didn't quite hit the same, they were still very good.
Although it's meant to parody McDonald's, the prices are steeper. But you are also getting better food with higher quality.
Strangely, we arrived at 9 when they opened for breakfast and their cashier hadn't arrived, so we were asked to order for pickup on Ubereats (which have higher pricing). A bit of a let down but we were already there and wanted to try their food. Definitely come maybe closer to 10 or later.

I have only tried the chick’n sandwich but it’s so good I don’t want to order anything else. The frowny meal also includes fries, drink and chick’n nuggets. It’s honestly enough for 2.

Vegan anti-McDonald’s Restaurant - Edit
I love the concept and the food is eerily similar to it’s McDonald’s counterpart. It’s been decades since I’ve had McD’s, but it tastes so close to the original that I was worried it wasn’t vegan. There is definitely a nostalgia feel as well as a political statement being made. As said previously, the place seems a bit run down and the service is not good. I’m glad we checked it out, but too expensive and it’s too greasy and the service and quality is not worth it.

It’s an interesting idea to copy McDonald’s, but veganize it. The problem is that McDonald’s isn’t good in the first place. This place feels more like it’s a pop art concept than actually a vegan restaurant that I want to eat at regularly. The burger is spot on to McDonald’s, in other words, sloppy and a weird mix of cheap onions, pickles, and ketchup. The nuggets taste oddly fishy. It’s also 3-4x the price of McDonald’s

The place looked abandoned, the order machines were out of order and there was a sign at the cash register saying you can only make orders through an app. The food was great (as great as mcdonalds food is, even my meat eating father loved it)! But the atmosphere was eerie. Great cause tho!

First off. The food was amazing. AMAZING. We had a couple of cheeseburgers and the chicken sandwich with fries. It tasted just like I remember. They even nailed the cheese which is hard to find.

Absolutely keeping the box and bag my food came in, ordered mini burger but it was the same size as a regular mcd's hamburger and nowadays it's the same price if not cheaper than the real thing! The fries were to die for, the booths are fun and comfortable, I get why this place is popular. Will be back next visit to SF for sure!

This place tries very hard to be the vegan McDonalds, with very similar looking and tasting food. It tasted good, fries were amazing, staff was friendly. But in total the place seemed a bit run down, the menu on the wall was taped over multiple times and didnt show prices. Seating very limited and tight.

Went right around the time they opened and all the decor is very cool. Many people were walking by and even inside to take pictures. I ordered the The Frownie Deluxe meal, it was decent! I got it with the chipotle mayo which I wouldn’t recommend. The person who took our order was on her phone texting while taking it which was weird. I was excited to be there and the staff would have made a better impression/experience if they looked like they wanted to actually be there.
