Lecker, aber nicht außergewöhnlich - Edit
Hatte das Udon Curry Kitsune (fried Tofu), es war lecker aber nichts außergewöhnliches. Und mit 1550 Yen für ein einfaches Gericht eher teuer.

Huge portion and very tasty - Edit
Had a delicious kare udon here, it was a huge portion so it was almost difficult to finish. Staff spoke perfect English. As with many restaurants in this area, there may be queues sometimes. Only con I can think of is the pricing; vegan options are ~ ¥1000 more expensive than the meat options. I would return though.

Really lovely although sold out of a lot of dishes - Edit
Loved that there was a vegetarian menu (that said everything was good for vegans). A lot of things were sold out but the dish I ended up getting was superb. I'd never had curry upon before so it was great to try! Leading up to the meal you were given a bib which added to the fun as well.

Delicious vegetarian food - Edit
Very delicious vegetarian food, even the dashi is made without a fish base. They offer a vegetarian menu card, all menu cards are available in Japanese and English. Friendly staff, maybe a little small, but clean and cozy restaurant.

The vegan menu is not vegan anymore - Edit
2022 nov. 16th. They informed me that they changed the oil they are using to fry stuff and now they use oil tht contains animal ingredients (they didn't specify which, i asked wether they meant that they fry animal stuff in the same oil but they said it's not that, but the oil itself). You can still have other udon in the menu if it doesn't have fried stuff in it, which limits it to the amakitsune curry udon or kitsune curry udon.
Read moreBUT CAREFUL, they still say it's vegetarian, but i don't really know how vegetarians like meat derived oil in their food, i guess it's personal choice.

5 Stars! - Edit
This is a delicious udon noodle restaurant. The HappyCow app wouldn’t let me give them 5 stars because they are not fully vegetarian or vegan.
Read moreWe found this traditional local restaurant on the Happy Cow app, and we are so glad we did! At first we were afraid to open the door because we weren’t sure they were open. Once we bravely slid the door open, they all welcomed us warmly. We ate upstairs where there were several tables. The vegetarian udon is delicious and you can choose thicker or thinner noodles, level of spicy, and you can add things like tofu skin and vegetable tempura. I had thicker noodles (super yummy) and my daughter had thinner (also super yummy), and we both added tofu skin and vegetable tempura which were also delicious. Even the locals wore the bib provided and loudly slurped away which gave us incentive to join them! You pay downstairs afterwards, and they bid farewell with the most heartwarming gratitude. This place is a genuine gem.
Pros: Authentic (not touristy), Affordable , Delicious

Great curry udon! - Edit
My group of 2 veg and 2 non-veg friends went here together, and everyone enjoyed their meals! There is a large vegan menu and the curry udon was excellent. I got the Ama Kitsune Curry Udon and it was the perfect balance of sweet and seasoned! The staff was friendly too, If I go to Kyoto again, I will definitely come back.

Nice udon and long wait - Edit
We had to stand in a line for almost 30 min to get an udon noodle soup. Though the soup was good but can’t say it was special or was worth the wait.

Great bowl of udon! - Edit
Delicious bowl of curry udon, perfect broth and noodles, no compromise on flavour and wonderful home made spice blends to give your bowl that extra kick. Plenty of vegan options and different toppings on the menu. Very affordable and super convenient location in Gion with walking distance to Yasaka Shrine - highly recommend!

Tasty udon - Edit
The udon is tasty, large and very very hot! It might be worth asking for a separate plate to save the crispiness of the nuggets and tempura before they're fully submerged in the sauce. I liked the flavour of the toppings - and I enjoyed the amount of spring onion, which normally is, well - not enough! The sauce and the udon were decent, there were some not so tasty peppers in the sauce but those could be picked out.

Muy sabroso - Edit
Me gusto mucho ya que el ramen vegetariano traia tofu, fue un plato completo con todos los macronutrientes. Es un poco caro. 1100 yenes. Es un lugar turistico asi que asumo que esta dentro del precio.

Original review:
Read moreThe food was average in my opinion, although to be fair I’ve been spoiled with great vegan food in Kyoto. (I had ramen here)
There were a lot of vegan options and things written in English.
If you’re close by you can visit, but I don’t think it’s necessary to go out of your way to try.
I came back a second time:
It was 10/10 amazing! On my first visit the food was quite bland, but this time I went for the Curry Udon and it was the best I ever had! I had to edit my original review to make it higher because it really was that good.
