Eclectic, unique menu with clean ingredients! - Edit
What's better than driving to Canada for the day, I'll tell you .. driving to Canada to eat vegan food. Ok ok, what's better than driving to Canada to eat vegan food, I'll tell you .. driving to Canada to eat vegan food while meeting new vegan friends! 🙌
Read moreWe decided to meet up at Mila Plant-Based, 100% vegan restaurant in the downtown area sort of right in-between Downtown Eastside, Science World, and Gastown. The restaurant has a lovely, quaint ambiance, feels very welcoming upon entering. The bathroom was .. well, posh! I don't normally make a point to comment on bathroom decor, while average in size, I felt like I was being upgraded to First Class lol. Ok, moving right along .. lol
They have two menus, a Weekend Brunch Menu and, for all other hours, a Lunch/Dinner Menu, ..we ordered from the Weekend Brunch Menu. I had the Bibimbap Bowl - rice bowl with Yo Egg, mushroom bacon, kimchi, tempura yam, cucumber, carrot, gochujang sauce. This bowl had many layers of unique flavors all married perfectly in every exquisite bite, I say this very sincerely! My wife ordered the Pina Colada Pancakes - pancakes, toasted coconut syrup, cashews, cocktail cherries, rum-candied pineapple, mint. Each bite easily lived up to the the decadence displayed in the included image.
We absolutely have to find our way back to Mila to try their Lunch/Dinner menu as it includes some amazing sounding options such as, Feta Stuffed Date - date, feta, pistachio, olive oil, maldon salt, ABURI LOX OSHI - carrot lox, aburi sauce, shiso, serrano, 6 pieces, Tuna Crispy Rice - watermelon akami tuna, sushi rice, lime kewpie mayo, green onion, sesame seeds, 3 pieces, and much more.
Our servers were super friendly and very attentive. We're planning a trip in the coming "days" and our server happened to be from the same area that we're ultimately heading at that time and was able to provide us with some tips and IG influencers to follow, very cool!
We had quite a few options to choose from regarding where to meet for brunch, with every option sounding wonderful in their own way. Ultimately, we decided on Mila because of their unique, fresh and inspiring sounding dishes and yeah, they did not disappoint.
Thanks so much for dropping by and reading this review. Do yourself a favor and extend the same courtesy to Mila by ... dropping by .. and enjoying some amazing tasty food. 🙌
Pros: eclectic menu, food has amazing flavor, food has clean ingredients

Super fun and inventive - Edit
I didn't get to try as much as I wanted to, but I really enjoyed the watermelon tuna appetizer. I got the steak fries for my main. I enjoyed the mushrooms it came with more than the faux steak, but it was fine. The peanut butter pie was really good. The entire table loved it even the non-vegans.

Can't help but rave about this place - GO - Edit
This meal was extremely memorable. We had sushi and dandan noodles, as well as a slice of peanut butter pie. Everything was bursting with new, delicious flavours we couldn't quite place. Service was wonderful and we are desperate to return for brunch!

GET THE PEANUT BUTTER CUP PIE - Edit
We ate at MILA twice on our trip. The staff was friendly and the restaurant's interior was very nice. The food was a 4 or 4.5/5 for me overall, but the Arancini is a 5/5, and the Peanut Butter Cup Pie is 5+/5. One thing to note, this location is adjacent to a several block long stretch that had many dozens of people who appeared to be under the influence and acting erratically, shouting, etc. Don't let this deter you from a trip to MILA, but I would recommend Ubering and not walking, especially if you're going alone.

Mila? Who even is ya? - Edit
Heard a lot of hype with this place and checked it out. I just went once, but I personally don’t think it lived up to the talk.
Read moreSome notes:
-complementary focaccia was crazy salty
-sparkling water was flat
The menu also didn’t seem consistent. We went on their 5th birthday so they brought back dishes that customers liked on the menu. What didn’t make sense to me was that this customer-favorite menu was mostly Italian dishes (arancini, arrabiata, etc.) but their modern menu is mostly East Asian inspired (Japanese, Chinese, Korean). What the heck happened? Why the toggle? It makes me a little suspicious. Who even is Mila?

I used to love Mila but the food isn’t as tasty anymore - Edit
Mila used to be my favourite vegan restaurant but the food I find isn’t as good as it used to be. I went awhile ago and ordered their curry potatoes, and mushroom & sausage tagliatelle dish and wasn’t super happy about the food experience anymore
Read moreI wasn’t too fond of the mushroom & sausage tagliatelle dish. The flavour just wasn’t for me. I was disappointed about this order but did my best to eat as much of it I could. The curry potatoes were decent enough (just too much like seaweed) and I did finish them but the food here used to be phenomenal. Not sure what happened. I do like that they switch up their menu often, but then sometimes your favourites also disappear.

Pros: New menu options fairly frequently , Fully vegan, Fancy
Cons: Favourite food dishes disappear off the menu, Expensive, Not satisfied by taste in recent years

Mila mi amor - Edit
I wish I had more days in Vancouver to try their brunch.
Read moreWe went there twice and we loved it!
The first time we shared the steak frites and the miso carbonada which were both mind blowing!
Second day my husband had the Dan Dan noddles (super spicy 🌶️ ) and I ordered the mushroom Sausage Tagliatelle, both very generously served and with amazing flavor!
Service is very friendly and food is served quickly. Don’t skip dessert, the coconut mango ice cream and the peanut butter cup pie were also amazingly delicious!

The Miso carbonara and yakitori chicken was so great! My fiancé had the Dan Dan Noodles and while they would have been too spicy for me, he liked them a lot.

Highly recommend dinner - Edit
We started with two sharing plates, including pork gyozas and the tempura and Japenese pickle plate. The gyoza were lovely and soft with a vibrant sauce and the tempura were brilliantly crispy. For mains, we enjoyed the miso carbonara and yakitori chicken, mushroom and sausage tagliatelle, smash burger, edamame salad and katsu baos. The chicken was really tasty and meaty. The baos were soft and had plenty of sauce. The flavours of each dish were amazing and well thought through. The interior was lovely and modern, and the staff were kind, very helpful and attentive. It was a lovely experience and highly recommended.

Classy and imaginative - Edit
Ate here with my daughter. Food was excellent. Staff were friendly. My only real gripe was that, even though it was not too busy, all customers were seated very closely together and as our table was in the middle, people regularly brushing past us(one of the tables had small children and were up and down a bit). I would just speak up about this when being seated next visit if the same thing happened. It was excellent and i would like to explore the menu further

Fun little place! - Edit
I was really excited to try this place out. The menu looked spectacular and it delivered.
Read moreArrived late afternoon in time for happy hour during a weekday. The place was not busy and service was quick. Ordered the Akami Tuna Tostada, Yakitori Chicken, Aburi Lox Oshi, and Tuna Crispy Rice along with some zero proof drinks.
Overall presentation was delightful. Small plates that deliver on taste that actually fill you up. My favorite was the Aburi Lox Oshi; it was quite rich and decadent.
Nice vibe to the place with some booth seating, tables/chairs, and high table/chairs with lots of light.

Nice, friendly, but the directions given by Happy Cow are incorrect! - Edit
Interesting appetizer plates. One was way too salty for me. Nice upscale atmosphere. Be sure to go to Keefer STREET, and not Keefer PLACE, which the Happy Cow directions incorrectly sent us to.

Plant-based fusion delight - Edit
We had katsu bao & okomomiyaki roll with interesting ingredients & creative fusion concept. Both tasted amazing! 🤩 Having said that, please be prepared to pay high prices for a tiny portion of food. This reminds me of Japan, where you feel you seem to always wish to have more food to satisfy your hunger!

We visited during Happy Hour and were blown away by the service and flavours. We had the Katsu Bao, Aburi Lox Oshi (my favourite — just so good), Crab Onigiri, Tuna Crispy Rice (my partner’s favourite), and Yakitori Chicken. It’s a bit on the pricier end but you will not be disappointed. Not only was the food outstanding, the service was incredible. We were given a free drink and our server was charming, noting down other vegan restaurants in Vancouver we should check out during our stay.
