Although they have a very small menu, their potato dosas are amazing and I find myself craving it all the time. Not only is the filling well-seasoned and tasty, but the three sauces put it over the top. The mango lassi (not vegan) is homemade and the perfect blend of deliciousness.
I find myself ordering here when looking for a light late night savory meal. Pani puri and idly are excellent. Not the most filling dinner around and it is a bit pricey, but I find myself craving it a lot!
I picked Madras Dosa Co because it was open late at night when I got into my hotel in the Seaport area of Boston. There was a decent number of vegan options on the menu, and the staff were mostly able to help explain the items I didn't recognize (the names weren't familiar to me, and there are no descriptions on the menu). Basically, you get a dosa (about $11) with 2-3 fillings (each of which you pay an extra $2 for), and then it comes with 3 sauces. The sauces included a tangy and salty broth with a few vegetables, a creamy sauce that was either made from ground mung beans or chickpeas (I presume), and a thicker and stickier sweet and sour type sauce. I didn't really know how to eat the sauces with the dosa since it's not easy to cut, and it's too big to pick up to dip into the sauces. I ended up just tearing off pieces of dosa with the filling and then dipping. Everything tasted pretty good, and it was hot and fresh, but I was definitely still hungry afterward. The fillings didn't completely fill the dosa, so I thought it was a fairly high-priced meal for what I actually got. I wouldn't recommend it unless you don't have other vegan options in the area.
The dosas are delicious and appropriately plentiful! The vegan items are clearly marked. The only problem we had was that we thought we ordered 1 order of samosas, but it turned out that we were ordering samosa flavoring to the dosa. They were so filling that we didn’t need the samosas, but I was still disappointed.
This place was good for a quick bite if you’re doing other stuff in the area. Counter service, with indoor and outdoor seats. Menu items are clearly marked if vegan. We built our own dosas, and they were tasty. Recommend doing spicy potatoes to give it a filling base then adding whatever you want. A little on the pricy side with the dosa being $11 with nothing in it then each filing is additional money. Nice staff. They reported all the sauces with the dosa were vegan, I’d double check in case they change. Not for if you want a sit down meal, but great for something on thr quicker side.
