Great food, great location!

At first glance, Lilac Oak seems to be located at a terrible spot. It's a 10 minute walk away from three MRT-stations, but next to none. And it is in a residential area where there's nothing much to do. But things aren't what they seem to be! In fact, Lilac Oak is only 5 minutes from Fort Canning, which is a beautiful park and an excellent place to take pictures / selfies. One can even just enjoy the beauty of the park! It's about 7 minutes from the National Museum of Singapore and both should be on your itinerary when visiting the country.

Lilac Oak is easy to find as it isn't hidden inside a mall, in a basement or an upper floor. Lilac Oak is simply at street level. It focusses on lunch and snacks. I went there for lunch and had a very good tofu sandwich. What makes it good is the quality of the bread (slightly toasted!), the generous piece of tofu and the well marinated vegetables. Simple, yet executed well. They also have drinks (coffee, tea), ice cream (home made oat milk based gelato), cakes and cookies. I tried the latter and because it is home made it had a richer more pure taste than a factory product.

So, if you visit either the National Museum or Fort Canning, Lilac Oak is the to go place for a vegan lunch or snack.

Pros: strategic location, good food, nice and clean

Lovely vegan treats

Happy to see a vegan cafe! Taro Pulut hitam tart base was too dry and hard to my liking and taste was flat. Earl grey lemon cake was really good. Wish to try brownie and ice cream with waffles in the next visit. Price is due to the location it's best to reserve indoors during weekends. Bring an umbrella if you're planning to walk there from Dhoby Ghaut!

Had oatmilk (naoki) matcha was very good and black sesame taro bagel! Very generous serving of taro complementing the bagel!

Oct 2025
Had the mixed berry Earl grey crumble. Wished the Earl grey flavour to be stronger. Compote of mixed berry and 'cheese' was very good!

Orange upside down cake was good too! Not too sweet and cake was moist!

16/11/25
Festive Fruit cake
Subtle orange flavours which wasn't overpowered by sweetness of raisins. Also had jam in it. Topped with almond slices making it crunchy! Cake was soft and consistent too. Highly recommended!

Matcha black sesame cake
Loved the matcha icing! It had a certain level of bitterness to it. Paired with the nutty black sesame paste, oof! Also the small bits of raspberry topping giving it a slight sour note. Matcha and back sesame combo has always been my fav!

Dec 2025
Went for the pistachio tarts and no regrets with this! The tart's crust was good, had a grainy texture and was soft. Pairs well with the creamy pistachio interior and topped with crumbs. 5*!😄

Nice sandwiches / great ice cream

I walked 30 minutes to find this location, i was determined 😆 it was nice as a western traveller to eat one meal that wasnt rice or noodles (no shade here i promise🙏🏻), and I had the TLT - tempeh, lettuce, tomato which was good. Nothing special though I would say. Then I had the brownie and strawberry ice cream. The brownie was average and ice cream was amazing. I reallt love to support vegan cafes wherever I travel so it is definitely worth a visit, but I wouldnt say it was anything wow.

lovely café

I loved it! Just discovered this café 15min before closing, on our last day in Singapore. but they were so nice and we had a good time. they offer ice cream in different flavors (pistachio and cookie was awesome), as well as different cakes, brownies and cookies (and many more). They also offer matcha affogato which I found special (but didn't try). So I would totally recommend and I'm sad I didn't find this place earlier.

Pros: Ice cream (especially pistachio), Chocolate/Banana Cake

I’m here for the Coffee and Waffles!

Second time here and I’m fussy on coffee and Lilac Oak does a good one! Adore the waffles and icecream selection! Good selection of savory menu items and sweet cakes and muffins. Nice little spot to get away from the crowds and heat - definitely worth a visit.

Pros: Nice service , Delicious coffee, Good options

Come for the Baked Goods

Because we came around lunchtime, we tried bibimbap and bagelwich. Both were okay. The bibimbap was very spicy, overlapping other tastes and the bagelwich lacked seasoning, especially the tofu. But the waffle and chocolate ice cream showed, what the qualities of this place are. Very good ice cream and waffle. The banana choc cake we had for takeaway was also tasty, although strangely a bit bitter. You should treat this as a café or bakery!
It's nice that they provide free tap water but the use of paper cups is unnecessary. Be mindful that there is a ten percent sevice charge for eating in the restaurant.

Perfect place for brunch and lunch

Lovely staff and delicious food. Also a good place to get some souvenirs if you're on a trip - will be going back for a container of black sesame flower cookies!

Nice afternoon spot

We came here for an afternoon snack and the sandwiches were good, but missing a bit of salt in my view. We liked the mushroom sandwich more than the TLT

The taro tart was not flavorful.

Cute and good

Nearly didn’t find this. It’s at street level, on a corner of this building, mirrored windows.
I had a tasty and nourishing shiitake and tofu sandwich in a ciabatta, including veggies. The rest of the menu looked really good too.
Cakes are overpriced, menu is ok. Good cold coffee.
Watch out for extra 10% on all prices, seems deceptive to not just include it in the price.
This was a handy place to get a trustworthy feed after visiting Fort Canning Park (or the national museum).

Pros: Food quality, Choice , Bright relaxed space.

Vegan and Allium-Free WFPB Cafe

Fully vegan and allium-free cafe with an emphasis on healthy natural whole foods! They are known for their housemade gelato and bakes such as taro tarts. They also serve a carefully curated menu of mains and sides, such as a tempeh sandwich with housemade sun dried tomato walnut pesto, loaded tater tots featuring their housemade kimchi mayo, as well as yangnyeom sauce organic chickpea tempeh nuggets by Angie’s Tempeh. They have many limited-time special menu items for both savoury dishes and desserts virtually every week, and are currently also serving a festive Christmas menu. In addition, they’re running pop-ups at the end of every month in collaboration with other businesses such as OATla, Radeau Vegan, Curious Baker Girl, and The Clean Addicts! Chef Chloe has truly been on a roll and all these exciting launches / events keep enticing me to return hehe. Slightly pricey but understandable due to the location and effort in making things from scratch. Kudos to the hardworking lady boss; I’m always supportive of women-owned businesses! Small cosy area, with both indoor and outdoor seats to accommodate more diners. (Reservation via Quandoo recommended.) 10 minutes' walk from Fort Canning MRT or Dhoby Ghaut MRT or Somerset MRT, but worth the trip if you're looking for WFPB meals. Btw they have a catering menu for events and parties too!

Great lunch & brunch choice

A stylish cafe offering great sandwiches, bowls, and a few baked goods. We had the mushroom sandwich with tofu and the tempeh BLT. Both were fresh and fantastic lunch options.

Niamh, who was feeling a bit under the weather, enjoyed raspberry ripple ice cream and a matcha latte, which she declared the best ever. We also had coffee, which came with a homemade baked treat so good that we bought a couple of bags to take home.

If you fancy a break from the hawker stalls and crave some fresh, delicious food, this place is a must-visit.

Pros: Fresh, Staff, Tasty

Clean and bright cafe

A nice little spot with fresh sandwiches and coffee. In line with prices in this affluent area, and nice affogatos. Flavors were milder than a lot of the rich Singaporean dishes we’ve been having.
