Vegan French Classics - Edit
We really wanted to enjoy some classic French food, but vegan and this restaurant really provided this experience. There are a variety of dishes, but our favourites were the mushroom pate and crepes.

Pros and cons - Edit
I was a bit disappointed. I really wanted that authentic French meal. The French onion soup was fairly bland and salty with a cheese that did not have a good mouthfeel. I had a lentil casserole with tofu and sausage that was on special. It was really good but came with scalloped potatoes that were so salty they were inedible and a mushy spinach and mushroom blob that was gross. I'm a spinach lover too. The apricot creme brulee was quite good and had a nice crackle. Great service and nice ambiance but I'm not sure I would go back next time I'm in Paris.

Amazing again…six years later - Edit
We went here in 2019 and had a blast, at their old location. Our second time here and it again did not disappoint, even six years later! For appetizers we had potato with olive caviar, and the tasting plate with several dips. We then had the gratin with stuffed seitan in pepper sauce and baked cauliflower, and the stuffed lentil pancake. For dessert we had the salted caramel crepe and a coffee ‘plate’ with three small desserts, one of which was a delicious crème brûlée! All of this was amazing, again. Go there! We will definitely be back.

One of my favorites ever - Edit
I love to travel all over the world and when people ask me my favorite places to eat, I always mention Le Potager du Marais. It’s such a treat to find a place to get authentic French vegan cuisine which by itself feels impossible. I will go here twice during a single trip to Paris.

French onion heaven - Edit
Really nice to have vegan options of traditional French dishes (and many with their own twist). The (French) onion soup was the star of the show but all the other dishes were delicious. The service was lovely and we left too full to move. We will be going back.

get the french union soup - Edit
the fench union soup is so nommmm. had the apricot creme brulee- satisfying crack but texture of the brulee was grainy and more pudding-y than I expected. good coffee, good hot chocolate. artichoke cream was good and had the veggie crepe- v healthy but not as flavorful as I wanted. if I went back I would definitely get the French union soup and try other things on the menu! the cheese on ittttt.

Decent vegan food - Edit
Service was really friendly. The French onion soup was amazing! The seitan steak was okay, quite rubbery, and the quinoa and sauce it came with was bland and didn’t add much.

Traditional French cuisine and old school seitan - Edit
We very much enjoyed our lunch here, no reservation was necessary. The onion soup was great, in particular the almond cheese! We also tried two seitan meat dishes, the bourgignon and the roast. The bourgignon was more exciting, but both dishes were fine. The seitan is very old school, like from the old days of veganism. Don't expect 'realistic' plant meat.

Vegan French onion soup - Edit
I wanted vegan French onion soup and creme brulee. The French onion soup was amazing. The croutons with the melted cheese was so good. The creme brulee had the satisfying crack to the top layer. The creme was good. It had apricot pieces. The texture was more fluffy than creme. But I enjoyed it. The place is adorable and the service was great. Staff spoke English. I tried my French and she helped me when I needed English.

Poor food, cold, and bland - Edit
The soup was delicious, but the lasagne and the tofu arrived lukewarm. The food was nothing special, it seemed the chef just threw some ingredients together. The staff was not the most pleasant either. On Google maps I gave it 3 stars because at least it is a vegan restaurant... 2 stars if I am being generous...

Very popular - Edit
I came here in March on a Friday night around 8pm and it was crowded! However I was given a table within 5 minutes of waiting so it wasn't bad. They were really packed with people so it took a good few minutes to bring the menu but it was not a problem for me.
Read moreThe menu is in French and English and has many starters and entrees.
I got the French Onion Soup and the Roast Seitán. I chose potatoes as my side and also got an extra side of rice because I hadn't eaten all day and was feeling hungry.
To drink they brought a carafe of water and I also ordered a mango smoothie.
The mango smoothie was sweet and tasty. It was cool and refreshing. I love mangos and this tasted really good.
The French Onion Soup was fantastic. I had read mixed reviews on here and I don't really know where they are getting better vegan onion soup. The top was cheesey and had the perfect texture. The bread in the soup was flavorful and easy to eat. I thought there was the right amount of onion and didn't feel like it was lacking anything. I really liked the broth as well. Lots of good flavors. I highly recommend this. It's a great starter and honestly could have been a meal in itself and I regretted immediately ordering any extra food because I was beginning to feel full after finishing the soup.
The Roast Seitán was incredible. I was so full but I couldn't leave anything on my plate. I thought the French Onion Soup was good, but the roast seitán was mind blowing. I saw reviews saying it had a sponge texture but I don't think that is accurate. I think it has a dough texture like making bread. It was not unpleasant and I really enjoyed it. I thought the soft gooeyness of it worked really well with the filling. The flavors were strong and wonderful. The pepper left a nice aftertaste and lingered the longest.
The potato side was also very good. It was very under-flavored compared to the roast it shared a plate with. But it was such a nice texture with the baked skin on one side and the soft middle. It was an excellent side and it filled me up completely. I used the brown rice to soak up all of the sauce on the plate because the pepper sauce was very pleasant.
I highly recommend trying this place. It's a great way to experience traditional French food made vegan.
I think France makes my favorite vegan food so far out of the countries I have visited. I haven't been disappointed with a vegan restaurant in Paris yet.
Pros: Delicious flavors, Good portions
Cons: Can be a long wait for a table

Le Potager Du Marais - Edit
I’ve changed my rating to three after visiting this week. The onion soup was not great this time and it had a great deal of oregano in it. The seitan dish was nice but also had quite a bit of oregano. I probably won’t eat here again.

FRENCH ONION SOUP!!! - Edit
This was arguably our best food experience to date! Both me and my partner had the french onion soup for appetizers and we couldn't stop saying wow and mmmm for every spoon! My seitan roast was perfection and beatufully paired with the potatoes and pepper sauce. My partner loved her food as well, tho i can't temember what she had.

Cons: A tad on the pricier side (but worth it)

Everything was lacking sauce - Edit
As a group we tried most of the main dishes and apart from the bourginon, everything was incredibly dry and not very flavourful, including the cakes. Portions were modest but decent and service good, but the food wasn’t great.

Disappointed - Edit
To be fair, this has been first time trying vegan french food.
Read moreAll in all, I'm disappointed with several of the options.
The seitan felt very spongy, the taste of it was okish.
The onion soupe did contain at most 10 small onion strings and mostly tasted like vegatable broth. Nevertheless, the cheese on top was enjoyable.
I could also try the crepe which I had high hopes for. But those delicious dreams got shattered by the filling of it.
Unfortunately the atmosphere also did not meet my expectations. really dark and there was also cauliflower under the table.
I wish I could leave a better rating but I left the restaurant with mostly bad feelings about the food

A great French experience - Edit
You can't book online - need to email or call, but this was easy enough. Staff were ok but not very attentive. The French onion soup starter was excellent - would go again just for this. Main was ok, but not quite what either of us had expected from the descriptions. Cafe Gourmand was a great dessert option to try everything. Had a kir royal which was absolutely delicious, did want more drinks but wasn't able to get staff attention.

Delicious French food - Edit
Loved the restaurant and staff (possibly owner?) Super friendly service. Was my first proper French dinner, being a life long veggie / now vegan I'd never tried any typical French food .. I had seitan bourginon with dauphinoise hmmmmm! I wanted to try a pud but the staff we're run off their feet and it was hard to get their attention by 9pm so we just paid and left. Next time! Yummy.
