Slow, and bad service; food is ok - Edit
Bad service and random food; they are very slow and want to charge 5% if paying with cards. Ordered a salad and it was decent; ordered tacos and they were cold once they reached our table. The personal are very slow and they don’t seem to be glad to be working there. Service need a lot of improvement. I don’t recommend eating in this place at all. They seem annoyed when you ask for things. And the prices are just very expensive for what you get.

Food was okay and service was okay, but neither were amazing. My kids enjoyed their Beyond Burgers and fries, but I felt like the Asian wraps and the order of hummus were just alright. Nachos were slight and I appreciated their house-made cheez. Would maybe eat here again but not super impressed.

Highlight of our trip - Edit
We came here on our first evenings because we wanted some vegan nachos that did not disappoint. So much that we came again for burgers! The food is amazing (our non-vegan friend actually preferred these nachos to traditional ones with cheese and meat), the atmosphere is very laidback and very friendly staff too. Definitely would recommend to anyone visiting Tulum x

Beat Vegan Food in Tulum - Edit
Went here for breakfast and I’ve got to say, it was incredible! We had avo toast, tofu scramble, French toast, and a couple smoothies and everything was so fresh and delicious. All of our entrees were 90 pesos and the smoothies were 50, super reasonably priced compared to other vegan/healthy food options around. Breakfast also comes with a free coffee. The staff was so friendly, I would definitely go back!

Having arrived in Tulum in the afternoon we decided to make Laylo our first stop for a late lunch. It was a sweet spot with a nice setting and good vibes. However the service that day was really poor. We waited ages for our drinks. The waitress got our order wrong, as well as another table's order (the man went up to complain) and there were things missing from one of the buddha bowls. my partner's meal (although missing some things) was good. I ordered the equinox bowl with extra tofu and it was just a giant bowl of reaally salty rice! It wasn't the healthy buddha bowl I was expecting (but maybe I just didn't read the menu properly). I tend to add salt in my food so I was quite shocked it was too salty for me. I had to stop eating it which is a real shame. The drinks were good.

Read moreWe had the sushi burger and the beat-meat burger. My boyfriend was amazed by the sushi burger and wanna eat it every day 😄 As well the nachos with mustard “cheese”. We tried different teas and the Mexican cacao was really nice as well (very sweet).
Please do yourself a favor and go for the boost juice (cannot remember the name but it’s with orange, turmeric and lime).
For breakfast we ate scrambled tofu, served with tortillas and beans and the French toast. Great choice of us I can tell you.
They don’t have soo many tables, but you can join other peoples. I personally love it, than it feels more cozy :o)

I was so excited about going here, having read the reviews, but it’s just a tiny place with 4 tables - 2 inside and 2 out - more of a clubby atmosphere with thumping music than cafe or restaurant, and with barely any food. When I visited they had nothing left except the burgers. I imagine if you’re up for a night out and try the alternative drinks it’s probably great, and I’m sure it tastes good (my drink was very nice!) but it wasn’t what I was expecting.

However, we do not advertise as a cafe or restaurant, we advertise as an intimate lounge with food and drinks that also has live music most evenings. People love us because we are intimate, comfortable, play music that they can connect with, all while eating and/or drinking things made with love. We are only 6 months old and my partner Lalo and I run this. We will check with our staff why there were only burgers when you arrived as our menu is quite big for our size, offering burgers, baguettes, salads, buddha bowls, desserts, etc. and lots of different drinks! Laylo is quite simple excellence. The staff are friendly, welcoming and cool, the menu is interesting and well thought out and the prices are reasonable for the high standard.
Read moreWe tried the sushi and juices (which were the best juices we’ve had in Mexico!) and a pesto vegetable baguette which was lovely. We also tried the kratom which is a plant medicine which was really interesting and enjoyable. Something different and a nice alternative to alcohol. They really looked after us which felt good.
The vibe is like a miniature club in the evening with cool lighting and a great sound system. Not loads of seats but well laid out and cool decor.
We highly recommend Laylo, well worth a visit and we wanna go back for sure.
EDIT:
We went back and you HAVE to try the portobello burger. It is one of the best burgers I’ve ever had and I’ve eaten a lot of amazing vegan food. The flavours are combined to perfection and it’s really next level coming. Compliments to the chef!

Do not visit Tulum without visiting Laylo - Edit
At first I was intrigued by Laylo's because of their ocean blue decor and effortless laid back vibe, I don't usually choose to eat in vegan restaurants from bad experiences in London but I was not disappointed! I advise everyone in Tulum to try their Portobello Burger. To finish do not leave without having a Laylo special - the most dangerously delicious cocktail, better than any bars back home. 10/10 from me!
