Restaurant turned fully vegan 2020 (previously La Esquina Vegetariana). Offers customers lunch and breakfast, in addition to an a la carte menu. Located just 450 meters north of the cemetery Gardens of Remembrance, in front of the old factory Nestle, alongside the Lavacar Cartec. To get from San Jose by bus, you should only take one of the Herediana bucetas or Guararí bus, get off at Peugeot and walk 200 meters west and 450 meters north. Call ahead to have your order ready. You can make a reservation for a group or request an express service. Accepts all credit cards. Open Mon-Sun 11:30am-8:00pm.

We had the birria tacos, the falafel burger, the no chicken shurwama, and the mushroom deluxe. I would rate them all 5*. For drinks, we tried the mint lemonade, the ginger and chocolate milkshake all worth writing home about.

Before departing back home, we wanted to enjoy some decent vegan cuisine in San Jose. We have not been disappointed! Parking right in front of the door, the food was delicious, the staff friendly and forthcoming. The Ramen was amazing, but served very hot, there entries are quite filling already, so my wife only managed half of her (great) Oriental bowl. We packed don't wraps to go for the flight. Just awesome 😎

Unfortunately I don’t know the exact names of the dishes we ate but basically they were the Thai bowl and oriental bowl. Both were very good. My wife and I liked the Thai bowl more but that is personal preference. Both were excellent!!
They also have a bakery counter. We bought a cinnamon roll and the red velvet cake. Haven’t eaten them yet but expect greatness based on the rest of our experience.
The restaurant is open air and the dining area and bathrooms were both clean and in good shape.

Luckily for me these guys are on uber eats - I ordered the tacos, gyozas and tiramisu. All were super good, large portion sizes and quick service. Highly recommend. Would love to eat at the restaurant if I get time!

My second time here (I live 6 hours away, sadly). Even better than the first time. Staff is so nice. Food amazing. Found my favorite dish ever. Sandwich de hongos (mushroom sandwich). Also tried the key lime pie and chocolate cake. The falafel wrap was amazing as well. Ordered 5 Cinnamon rolls to go to share with my family at home. So yummy! So my top recommendation is mushroom sandwich and Cinnamon roll. Enjoy

Read moreWe had the Hawaiian and the suprema. Both were good but quite salty (think it was probably the vegan cheese). The fake meats were quite good. Overall it fulfilled our cravings and but didn't blow us away.
It was pretty expensive but we did get it as a takeaway through Uber eats so that added a bit. Took nearly an hour to come.

I came here on my 9 hour layover. Taxi charged me 20 usd each way to come here from the airport, which was worth it to me but likely an overcharge. I wanted to try the fried mushroom tacos, the soup and the salad with falafel. For sure the salad and soup would have been enough food but I am glad I got to taste the mushrooms too. They also have great vegan dessert selections and I had a few bites of the tres leches. The daily juice was passion fruit and it was lovely.

This was the first meal we had in San Jose, Costa Rica and I didn’t know what to expect.
Read moreWe arrive at this unassuming place that seems to have entire families eating there so the vibe was very homey and welcoming.
We are seated promptly and place our order of a “Parribox”, a special of the day which is a stir fry and Birria Burger.
What then proceeded to arrive at my table was some of the best food I’ve ever had. The parribox I’m assuming is close to a “parillada” we have in Tex-Mex/Mexican cultures which is an assortment of meat and grilled veggies and sides. This brought back amazing memories of eating that—only vegan of course.
The birria burger, was—no lie at all, THE BEST veggie burger I’ve ever had. It had a delicious bun, a crispy patty, some “pork”, lettuce, tomato and a spicy birria bun.
My partners deconstructed sort of stir fry was also REALLY good. It had a sweet and sour soy, tempura eggplant, rice and veggies.
We then had a dulce de leche shortbread cake.
Whenever I finish a meal that I know I can only get in a specific place in a specific country I get a bit sad and want to come back to the country/place I travelled far to. This is that place in Costa Rica for me.
La Esquina Vegans deserves your business, and your tastebuds deserve this experience.
ALSO: very powerful art on the walls to that I found quite moving.

I’ve been here a couple of times. The service and food have been great. One of my struggles when I travel overseas is that most of the vegan places seem to focus on making Veganized American junk food. I want to eat local food, not pizzas, burgers, chicken wings and nachos! Lol. This place has burgers and nachos, but they also make local dishes. Each time I’ve been here, I let the waitress call the shot on what I got and they’ve done me right each time.

I’m quick to judge a place on their nachos and these did not disappoint! However, the “chicken nuggets” weren’t exactly what my husband was expecting. The tofu was cut into very large triangles and not very nugget like. I also was not a fan of the tropical juice. It separated into 3 layers and wasn’t very tasty.

Great food every single time. In my opinion, the best vegan restaurant in the San Jose area. This time we had the loaded fries and Milanese. Everything came out perfect and the ginger drink is so yummy. I highly recommend this restaurant to everybody! They also have a selection of vegan substitutes in their fridge and a lot of sweets 🌱💚
