wow - Edit
The food here is really good. The place is a little difficult to find as it's on the 3rd floor of the building. It's clearly indicated in the buildings lift (the building looks to be shared with flats).

Lovely little spot in Nara - Edit
NOTE: don't go up the stairs on the outside of the building, as they only lead to the business on floor 2. Go inside, then go up the stairs to floor 3.
Read moreThis was a cute little place with a simple, but tasty menu. I got the genmai (brown rice) noodles, and my boyfriend got the tofu hamburg set. The noodles were served with lots of salad and veggies, which the waitress recommended I mix together with the noodles, so I did. They also provided a soy-based sauce. The flavors were delicate and nice. I really enjoyed it. The only flaw was the texture that comes with brown rice noodles (I prefer wheat), but that's to be expected and not such a big deal. The tofu hamburg was incredibly yummy. It doesn't really mock the taste or texture of an actual hamburger patty, but instead focusses on the lovely flavor of the tofu and veggies it's made out of. I would absolutely get this dish if I ever go back.
The owner of the restaurant was very sweet, and after we paid she walked us out to the elevator, called it for us, and bowed until we were out of her sight.
Definitely go here if you visit Nara.
Pros: Relaxing peaceful ambiance., Extremely lovely staff., Tasty.
Cons: Very hot inside.

Little cafe - Edit
Little cafe seemingly owned and operated by one friendly woman who is very welcoming and provides picture menus for the Nihongo-challenged. 4 options for lunch (avoid the creamy noodles, others were good though). Also has a cute lil stall of dry noodles and cookies and stuff, and a Tv playing a weird silent docco of animals.

Beautiful and Delicious - Edit
Kururu is located in a short walking distance from Kintetsu-Nara Station, which made is a perfect place for lunch after visiting Todaiji Temple. The cafe is owned by a sweet old Japanese lady who does everything by herself. There are only a few items to choose from on the menu, and we tried three of them. They were all beatifully presented and tasted great! All of the rice was brown rice too. The cafe itself is small but cute and cozy. The only downside is that the menu is only written in Japanese and the lady doesn't speak English well, so I recommend going with someone who can speak Japanese. Otherwise, this place was great.

perfect little cozy place near the nara station. - Edit
Had the tofu burger, curry rice and gyoza set at kururu. Though on a pricier side, the presentation and quality of the food are top-notch. The aunt at the shop is super friendly. Even though she speaks very very little english, she really does her best in explaining the dishes to us. Will definitely drop by again when we come to nara again!

Simply delicious - Edit
Quaint little cafe that has a very charming vibe and wonderful, kind staff. Food was delicious and reasonably priced (I recommend the curry rice). I liked the banana cake so much, I went to Kururu twice during my one and half days in Nara :D Definitely worth checking out if in Nara!

Nice place to eat in Nara and super friendly staff - Edit
This place is really lovely and the staff is super friendly. If it's a little bit crowded you have to wait at least 20 to 30 min. Although the staff cannot speak a lot of English they have a little book with English phrases and the menu to make your communication a little bit easier. The food is really tasty, but a little pricey. Highly recommended! We enjoyed our lunch!

Was glad to find this place in Nara as there aren't many options. We walked past it once as the entrance is on the street and the name isn't on the sign (the restaurant is actually on the 2nd floor).

Couldn't be better - Edit
Was overjoyed to find this place as been struggling a bit in some areas of Japan. Nishio welcomed us personally, and in very good English explained the menu options to us as well as explaining portion size. The food came reasonably quickly considering she was alone, and it was INCREDIBLE! One of my best meals in Japan - and my non-vegan mother thoroughly enjoyed hers too, and has even vowed to try keep it up! The restaurant itself is lovely and cosy with a very relaxing vibe. Overall very very pleased with finding this place!

We had a good lunch in this little restaurant. The lady doesn't speak much english but she tries to explain at her best what's in the menu ! I would recommend this place even if it was a bit pricy (approx. 5000 yens for 2 people with a main dish a tea).

delicious food and friendly vibe - Edit
There’s lots of great vegan food in Japan but I think the most friendly and relaxing meal was here. The waitress spoke very limited English but she’d gone to the effort of handwriting the translated menu in English as well as pages of sentences that she might need so she was able to communicate anything she needed to say and tell me about each dish, the restaurants philosophy, etc. The effort was lovely.
Read moreI had the tofu burger meal on the waitresses recommendation and she was quite right - it was really delicious and had little tastes of various items along with the burger patty and a nice refreshing salad. After dinner I had a slice of banana cake which was flavourful and moist - served with soy cream and edible flowers. Coffee was also good.
Highly recommend visiting when in Nara and supporting this small business. It’s upstairs so look out for the sign next to a small lift lobby and head up.
Pros: Delicious food, Friendly service , Relaxing environment

Homely Place near Nara Park - Edit
The food was great with some unusual parts. It is definetly worth trying. The staff is really super nice with fantastic englisch skills. The place has a nice view and it feels really homely. They have soy milk for your coffee and its easy reachable, if you visit Narapark. Ohh and i actually had the impression, that my food was healthy. So i would recommend the place.

A cosy place with wonderfully happy staff. The food was inventive and delicious. A bit pricey but that seems to be the way of vegan places in Japan as a whole, no stars to take away for that.
