A brilliant antidote to the corporate takeover - Edit
Recently it seems as though health food chains are taking hold in the city of Bilbao, hence the risk of small shops being put out of business. Fully vegetarian Kresala is the type of place I truly want to survive, despite covid19 or any other crises. For one thing, staff are super friendly, unpretentious and welcoming, especially the very energetic owner, Aintzina. Their produce is nothing less than stellar; either organic, or from their own crops in nearby Kortezubi. Admittedly it's a little annoying and time-consuming that they stopped stating the prices on the products (you need to instead scan the barcode by the till), but it's only a minor inconvenience. Prices are reasonable, and it seems like a place where customers want to hang out, rather than strictly run their errands. In conclusion, a very pleasant experience while in the old town.
Read moreUpdate July 2024: no longer a vegetarian place, which perhaps makes sense on business grounds.. but it's still a bummer, obviously. Sadly lowering the rating to 4 stars as per HappyCow's guidelines.

Very nice little organic store with many vegan products. Also offers vegan cheese, vegan yogurt and vegan ice-cream.
Read moreNote that the prices are not displayed on the shelf or on the products (which probably allows them to have more products), but there is an electronic scanner near the cashier to determine the price of a product. Prices were not higher than in other organic stores.
